Hi all, I hope all my friends and clients have weathered the Christmas Day storm and have come out unscathed. I am still without power at home, so unfortunately I will not be taking bookings for the next few days....
Unless you can provide power to charge up my batteries and a shower afterwards. 😆

Ticks! Ick!
I have been finding ticks like crazy the past few days on several of the horses I've clipped. Ticks can be nearly completely undetectable and hidden on a horse with a longer coat, the owners were all shocked to see the bite marks I pointed out, along with a few of the gross things buried with their heads into the poor ponies flesh having a feed! I know local small animal vets have been seeing a sharp rise in tick cases, and paralysis ticks can and do affect horses as well!

With the weather heating up this week, my calendar is filling up and I'm anticipating quite a few more inquiries. I'll be in Brisbane, Jimboomba, Tallebugera and of course all around the Gold Coast in the coming days.

A massive thank you to B&R clipper blade sharpening for getting all my blades sharpened today, and keeping all my gear in tip top shape. They always do a terrific job and their service is second to none!

I spent the day with the GlenX Lodge team, getting their future race horses ready to commence pre-training. Now that the winter woolies are off, they're looking the part of next year's champions. It's been a week for the race horses! Clipping can help your horse perform it's best, train harder/reduce fatigue, improve skin health, help your staff check tendons/legs with greater ease, and keep major muscle groups from being chilled with a damp coat that takes ages to dry. Nevermind the time it saves your strappers!
This gorgeous Kermadec filly thought it was a pretty great day at the spa and doubled as a little massage. 😍

I know I have quite a few clients with horses that are showing cushings disease symptoms. Here's a great chance to get free testing done!!

✨✨FREE ACTH TESTING VOUCHERS STILL LEFT!✨✨

🤯Cushing's disease, also known as Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID), is an endocrine (hormonal) disease of a small gland at the base of the brain, the pituitary gland. It most commonly affects pony breeds, but can affect larger breeds, and is primarily seen in older horses over the age of 15 years old.

💊There are many clinical signs associated with Cushing's disease that can have negative impacts on your horses health which is why we may recommend testing your horse. Also, this disease can be well-managed and is treatable!

🎉We currently have some free vouchers left to offer to test for this treatable condition! If you have any questions in relation to the relevance of testing to your horse or would like to book in your horse for the free test please contact the clinic on 07 5574 2466.

PSA: Cabiner clips are not safe around horses, because "horses are horses". I see them all the time in grooming stalls and cross ties.

Caribiner clips are not safe for horses to be left alone with. They can get them caught on lips, eyes and nostrils! If you need to use a caribiner, stay with your horse or use the type that screws up.
I mean really, it’s not the most tasteful piercing right!

Love it or hate it, body clipping season is upon us. Those of us that show don’t have a lot of creative input with our clips. The biggest question might be how big to leave the spur patch, but other equestrians get a lot more freedom with their clip jobs. Check out these amazing talents […]

⚠️LOW TO NO tick antiserum Australia wide

This means if your furry family member gets a tick and isn’t on a preventive it will now be even more difficult for your vet to currently treat.

The best thing we can do for our pets to avoid even needing to see a vet for treatment due to tick envenomation is to make sure they are on a well-rounded preventative and to triple check your current preventive NOW to make sure it also covers paralysis ticks!

Steps to follow to keep your loved fur-members safer and to avoid seeing a vet due to tick envenomation include:

• Providing your pet with a preventative
• Ensuring preventatives are taken as frequently as the box recommends
• Set a calendar reminder for when preventatives are due
• Checking your pet DAILY for ticks
• Keeping your grass short

Unfortunately, we are seeing high numbers of tick cases this year, but the good news is there are easy at home steps you can take to keep your pets from experiencing life-threating tick envenomation. We are so lucky to have tick prevention products available for our pets so it’s important we are giving this to them.

Even with the treatment shortages, there are still ways we can help your pets. If you find a tick on your fur-member the safest thing to do is contact your vet. If they are on a preventative and you are worried please still call your vet 🐾💜🩺

Today we launch our "Save A Horse Giving Day".

https://save-a-horse-australia.giveeasy.org/save-a-horse-giving-day-2022

It's a 2 day campaign leading up to the final day which is Tuesday 1st November commonly known as 'Melbourne Cup Day', but for us it is 'Save A Horse Giving Day'.

A day to reflect on the welfare of not only racing thoroughbreds but all horses across Australia as we strive to bring awareness for all equines.
We have a big problem in our country with horse neglect, and this needs to change.

Horses such as our recently rescued ex racehorse "Romance" would have lost her life if not for our charity.

Thankfully, we are already seeing the horse industry making changes for the welfare of racing horses, with the introduction of Qld Racing making changes for the protection of racehorses.
Our charity does it's very best to change the lives of the horses who come into our care, but the problem runs deeper than this. More changes must come.

We ask you for the next 2 days to help us achieve our target.

To raise $75,000 we simply need to continue our work saving the lives of horses, but we need your help.
We are contacted every day with horses wanting to be surrendered to Save A Horse Australia, but our abilities are limited to funding, and we hope to break away from money being the reason we have to say NO to many needy horses.

This year, to coincide with the running of the Cup, we ask you to take a punt on us instead.

Bet on a sure thing......changing the life of an Australian horse in need. Our campaign launches today, and we are set up to take donations, with the big push happening on Cup day.

PLEASE.... Place a bet on SAHA, we have great odds, we give so much more to the Equine community than a monetary return.

We give hope to the hopeless, we heal those horses who have suffered through abuse, neglect and starvation to show them that humans really can make a difference.

Every dollar donated adds up and makes a huge difference to the life of SAHA horse.

The best part is......a donation to us gives you an instant tax-deductible receipt. Save A Horse Australia is a fully registered 'not for profit' charity with a DGR status (Deductible Gift Recipient) and we also hold the ACNC Charity Tick of Approval.

So, here we are asking you…Our supporters to support SAHA, to stand with the horses over this Melbourne Cup, and help us raise $75,000 to keep this amazing charity moving forward.

Please consider donating to us today, to share this fundraiser with everyone you know, to help us stay on an even keel with the huge expense of running the biggest horse rescue in Australia.

Donating to our horse charity gives you the power and opportunity for that gamble to make a huge difference…

This ‘Save A Horse Giving Day'....(Cup Day) be a part of a National change, bet on changing a life for the better, back a certain future. Share the work we do, become a voice for the voiceless, be the catalyst of positive change for every Race Horse in Australia.

Your donations are guaranteed to assist with the ongoing rehabilitation of the horses we have in care and to help us continue to rescue and secure the future for many other horses in need.

Our ex-racehorses in care, are protected for life now they are part of SAHA and will be traced, tracked, and never be out of our sight.

We need your help to reach our dreams... and our goals.

We would love you to take part and donate. Even as little as $5 will help us reach goal.
If you could also write the word DONE below after you have donated and pls pls share this post far and wide.

A simple safety measure, always make sure that any clips face inward. It may seem like a "that probably never happens" sort of thing, but I have seen horses clip themselves onto wire fences, buckets, and even a farm buggy tray.

👋 This is a very important memo! 👋 Please make sure you always buckle your blankets and tack into your horse. When they face out they have the risk of getting caught on fences, buckets, and anything else your horse might find.

I hope one day you meet a difficult horse.

A horse that frustrates you and sometimes says no.

A horse that shatters your dreams and makes you feel hopeless because you cannot solve their problem with what you know.

Why would I wish this upon you?

Because this horse will show you the limitations of your understanding and challenge you to step up and learn.

Sometimes the lessons you will need to learn is to improve your knowledge, skills and self awareness and how you directly impact the horse and make the feel.

You will work hard spending hours in the dust, sun, wind and rain making yourself better to help this horse - and you will do it.

Sometimes the lesson will be one of acceptance that the horse you love and have poured so much time and money into is not sound.

Your heart will break as you now see your difficult horse was just telling you it was struggling.

This horse will teach you to see and know things about horses that you will never be able to un-see or un-know. You will see horses struggling and people (no different than you past self) blind to that struggle.

But this horse will make you a better horsewoman or man, and you will be grateful they came into your life and what they taught you.

The story of you and this horse will always be a hard story to tell. Sometimes when you tell it, you will get tears in your eyes. But it will be one of the most meaningful stories of your life.

You will share this story with others with the hope that it will help them with their horse. So that your horse, can help their horse too.

This is my difficult horse. His name was Skuda and I am grateful what this horse taught me...and if I have helped you with your horse.....well you can be grateful for him too ❤
