Yesterday Echo headed out for his first off-property adventure and ride. For those who don't know, Echo was a rescue from the saleyards who was used as a buck-jumper and very traumatised. Just over two years on he is doing incredibly well 🀍

'Just Like Magic' cruising around his first 90cm courses on the weekend. River was broken in and trained at Magic Pines. We take jump training steadily with a focus on building the horses confidence and giving them the skills to be adjustable and able to get themselves out of trouble. This has paid off very well for River and he was able to get around this course safely despite the wet conditions.

Kicked off the year with a team meeting here at Magic Pines tonight! πŸŽ‰

It was a very exciting way to talk about some of the things we have planned for the business for the year ahead, which includes a few ways we hope to expand to help more people.

We also talked about individual goals for Sponsored rider Holley and Ambassador Katie-Anne πŸ’™

A few tips for all of you after our inspiration tonight:

Sit down and set goals for the year!! They can be as complex or as simple as you like. An example of one we discussed tonight was: "I would like to score at least 60% in a prelim dressage test this year."

Not only set goals, but break down the following:

πŸ•―what is standing in my way right now?
πŸ•―what am I currently doing to bring me closer to my goal?
πŸ•― what else can I do to achieve my goal?

For these points, and our goal of over 60% in prelim we came up with:

🍁 currently stopping us: horse can be anxious in a dressage ring, rider needs to work on position & core strength, finetuning canter quality & flexion through all paces.
🍁 what are we currently doing: started up regular lessons focusing on improving flexion & canter work + rider seat, getting into a routine for regular work for the horse to improve strength & balance.
🍁 what else can we do to achieve our goal: work on elasticity exercises for horse & rider to improve general positioning, incorporate arena familiarisation to allow the horse to overcome anxiety in the ring, practice working in dressage arenas regularly.

By breaking your goals down like we did tonight, you will be able to get a plan in place to achieve all of your goals for 2024!!

So if you read this far, drop some goals you have for the year down in the comments 🌲

Now that we have introduced our current team of horses - let's look at some that we have trained and rehomed!

First up is "Magic of Afrika" or Africa πŸ’™ a 2012 TB mare. We trained Africa for polo and then as an allrounder who loved to jump. She is a super sweet mare with heaps of talent in the jump ring. You may see her out on the competition circuit around the Gold Coast with her current family.

Whilst we are introducing our equine family to this page, we also want to introduce the 2023 team too! We are starting off with our lovely Ambassador and Training Shadow: KA Moreton So, keep reading to get to know Katie a little better πŸ’™

My name is Katie-Anne (but you can just call me Katie), and I am a Gold Coast-based equestrian who has been riding since the start of 2019. My pony’s name is Americana (or more formally known as KM Devil in Disguise) and she is a black quarter horse cross who absolutely loves to share her opinion in the sassiest way possible. While I do love the odd cross-country fence as well as mounted archery here and there, Showjumping will forever take my heart with my little Kana Bean. What can I say? It’s just something we both love to do!

Our Journey:
I started riding Americana at the beginning of 2022 after sadly giving up my thoroughbred as we just weren’t a good match. Kana had very little miles under her belt and had been out of consistent work for 5+ years, she was originally bred for the purpose of cattle cutting along with a couple other western disciplines. Together we started attending pony club rallies in an attempt to build up her confidence in busy environments, and Kana quickly learned that pony club wasn’t scary and was in fact really fun! Currently we are focusing on Kana’s flatwork in hopes to educate her a little better as well as see how far the dressage side of things can take us.

Why I chose Magic Pines:
A few reasons I chose and stuck with Magic Pines is that they never shut Kana down when she was expressing herself, they always had her best interests at heart and if Kana didn’t like something or was getting confused, well that was okay, we would just try again patiently and kindly. Every lesson I’ve had to this date has always been super educational and uplifting, I’ve always walked away feeling super confident and successful. Magic Pines has always been there when I’ve had trouble with Kana, always given me a straight answer on how to fix/improve on something, and I’ve never seen Americana happier and focused on the task at hand, when in a lesson from Magic Pines.

Challenges & Wins:
A couple highlights from Americana and I’s journey have been my 12/12/22 lesson where Kana and I confidently completed a full 80cm round after a rocky competition season, as well as my 27/11/22 Showjumping competition at Riverview Equestrian where it was Kana’s second competition ever (first away from her home grounds) where she produced some lovely flowing rounds and even managed to take home a 3rd in the 40/50cm & a 2nd in the 60/70cm! She handled that day like a champ and I was super proud, I couldn’t have done it without the preparation from Magic Pines.
Now this journey has not come without some challenges, one of which being Kana’s level of flatwork. My amazing coach discovered that Kana was not taught the foundations when she was first broken in. Things like how to carry a rider, flexion and head carriage- just flatwork overall. Another challenge we have faced is Kana’s ground manners. While she is a pony that picks things up SUPER fast, she also likes to think that she can be in-control of everything, which leads to rudeness such as kicking, biting and just being quite pushy and demanding overall.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Katie & Kana! Keep your eyes out for this team, and don't be scared to say hello if you see Katie out at an event. Don't forget to check behind the camera, she also likes to spend some time there πŸ˜‰ you can see her fantastic work here: Trot Up Photography

Bella & Kaylee in their lesson this morning πŸ’™ busy practicing some dressage moves for their upcoming combined training. Bella has been working very hard on her transitions and keeping Kaylee steady rather than rushing in the canter. So proud of these two and how much improvement they've made already. Also check out their first ever cross country jump together!

Introducing Kahlua aka Falkor's Magic πŸ’™

Kali is a 5yo 15.1hh Arab x mare. This little girl is an extra special part of our herd, being our very first rescue!

We bought Kali as an unhandled 12 month old foal from the doggers down in Victoria. We handled and broke her in and she will be a permanent part of our family. She truly is a very special horse, with a talent for dressage and some awesome tricks & liberty work up her sleeve!

Amy & Cruise in their lesson last weekend. Amy has recently started riding Cruise and is learning all of his buttons! Amy asked to focus on her seat this lesson so here we are working on getting her hands soft and steady and trying not to tip forward. We also practised keeping Cruise in a steady working trot as he likes to pick up some extension and get a little faster sometimes. I'm so proud of Amy for working so hard and adapting to a new horse πŸ’™

We love starting our days off bright and early with lessons πŸ™Œ today we worked with the lovely Lauren and her beautiful boy Zorro. Lauren has been building her confidence riding and managed two wonderful canters today! Congratulations Lauren ❀ here is a snippet of some of their trot work - practicing engaging Zorro's hind end and getting him to lift his belly to find a true contact.

Introducing Sydney πŸ’š aka "Magic Frost" or more commonly, "Syd".

Syd is a 13.2hh 20yo Arab x Riding Pony gelding. He has been part of the family for almost 12 years. Syd is best known as a highly competitive jumping and sporting pony, and also as a safe beginners mount. This pony truly adjusts to his rider and always makes sure they are safe.

Aside from that, Syd is also fully liberty & trick trained and often feautures in our demos πŸ₯°

Introducing River πŸ’™ aka Just Like Magic or "Silvergun Top Shot".

River is a 5yo 15.2hh registered ASH gelding. River has a puppy dog personality and loves attention from humans. He is a super sweet boy and hasn't got a mean bone in his body. This boy started his ridden career with us and is currently being educated under saddle, whilst also receiving an extensive groundwork and desensitising education, and being exposed to as much as we can throw his way. Once River has a solid foundation and we feel he is ready to find his forever partner, he will be for sale to the very best of homes.

Watch this space if you might be interested in this lovely boy πŸ’™

Introducing Echo πŸ’™ aka "Magic On Repeat"

Echo is a 15.2hh 3yo Percheron x brumby gelding. We welcomed him into the family almost 6 months ago. He was bred to be a buckjumper but just didn't have that spark, so he was put through the sales where he found himself in the hands of a dogger. Echo is one of our rescue horses who we absolutely adore.

He was unhandled when he came to us, and understandably very fearful of humans. He has come along in leaps and bounds and has such a sweet personality. We can't wait to see how this boy matures ❀

Next up for our introductions is Dream! You may know her as "Beggars Magic Dream".

Dreamy is a 15.1hh 9yo QH x ASH mare who has been part of the Magic Pines team since 2017. Although Dream has competed in pretty much everything, she much prefers trails & beach rides and flatwork/dressage at home. For that reason she is our go to mare for helping the youngsters get used to riding out and about. Dreamy is also one of our resident lesson horses, for experienced riders only.

With the launch of our page we will be doing introductory posts for all of our current horses.

First up is Wildfire! You may also know him as "Magic Untamed" or "Wildfire Castle Black", or more fondly known as little buddy.

Wildfire is a 6yo 14.3hh Gypsy Cob x Arab gelding bred by Wildfire Gypsyhorses. He has been part of the Magic Pines team since September 2021 and is currently schooling Novice dressage & competing 90cm show jumping. Wildfire is one of our personal performance horses, and is a well known face around the Gold Coast competition circuit. Make sure you come and say hello if you see him out and about!
