As we will be closed Thursday and Friday Wildcare will serve as your initial point of contact 55272444. The volunteers at Wildcare are exceptional individuals, but they also have families. Here is an informative infographic that provides guidance on assisting injured wildlife, if it is safe to do so. It is important to remember to prioritise your safety while attempting to rescue wildlife. In the absence of a crate, a cardboard box can be used. Please be aware that the well-being of everyone is a concern, and our hearts break for all our beautiful wildlife friends. 💔 THANK YOU WILDCARE ❤️

Happy !🐕
Before you head out, have you heard of the 5-Second Rule?

Here’s how it works:
👉 Place the back of your hand on the pavement and hold it for 5 seconds.
👉 If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog!

Hot pavement can burn paw pads and cause serious injury.

Pro tip: Walk your pup early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler. If you must go out, stick to grass or try dog boots!

Why Regular Lump Checks Are Important

As pets age, lumps and bumps become more common. Many of these are harmless, but others may indicate underlying health issues.

Here are the key reasons why regular checks are essential:

🐾 Early Detection: The earlier a potential problem is identified, the better the chances of successful treatment. For instance, catching cancerous lumps in their early stages can significantly improve outcomes.

🐾 Monitoring Changes: Even benign lumps can grow or change over time. Regular checks allow vets to monitor these changes and take action if needed.

🐾 Preventive Care: Some lumps may not seem concerning initially but can lead to complications if left untreated. Regular monitoring ensures your pet remains healthy and comfortable.

🐾 Peace of Mind: Knowing that a lump is harmless can alleviate unnecessary worry and stress for pet owners.

Common Benign Lumps in Pets: What You Need to Know

Not all lumps are cause for alarm! Here are a few common types of harmless lumps you might spot on your furry friend:

🐾 Lipomas: These soft, fatty deposits often form under the skin of older pets. They’re slow-growing and typically harmless.
🐾 Sebaceous Cysts: Caused by blocked oil glands, these small, fluid-filled lumps can rupture but are usually nothing to worry about.
🐾 Warts: Often linked to viral infections, warts are more common in older pets and are generally harmless.
🐾 Histiocytomas: These red, button-like lumps are common in younger dogs and often disappear on their own.

If you notice a new lump or bump, it’s always best to have it checked by your vet. Early detection is key to ensuring your pet’s health and happiness!

Our Story

Dr Helen Greenhalgh opened the surgery in 1998 next door to our current address. In 2003 Dr Helen constructed a purpose built practise with the health of your pet and your peace of mind as its number one priority. With Dr Helen, Dr Leslie, Dr John, the nurses and reception staff you can be assured of personalised sevice each and every time you visit. There are 3 Spacious consultation rooms with the state-of-the-art equipment for us to thoroughly examine your pet. We also have a separate consulting room for our feline friends scented with calming feline pheronones to help relax them and make their visit as stress free as possible. We have a bright and spacious reception area with many comforts to make your check in a pleasant and stress free experience for every family member. In the reception area we have a variety of diets: food for normal healthy pets and also diets for those with special needs. Our nurses are highly trained and can advise you on the best diet plan for your pet. We also stock range of dental requirements, grooming tools and yummy treats. Our hospital is very spacious. We have large kennels for our bigger dogs, cages for the little ones, and a seperate ward for our feline friends. Our cages have heated floors for those recovering from surgery or illness. All our parients receive comfortable bedding, regular toilet walks and the very best of care from our staff. We have a seperate sterile surgical theatre fully equipped with state of the art monitoring equipment. We do routine surgeries such as desexings and lump removals, but also orthopedic and specialist surgeries such as fracture repairs, cruciate ligament repairs and even eye surgery. We also have treatment benches in the hospital for non sterile procedures such as dental scaling and polishing, dental extractions, ear flushing etc. We are also able to do dental x-rays for an in-depth look at your pets teeth. For dental procedures we have a state of the art dental machine that cleans and polishes your pets teeth to remove plaque and tartar and freshen your pets's breath. We also use a dental x-ray maching to aid diadnosis of oral cavity disease. We use the latest and most up to date human grade anaesthetics and thoroughly researched drugs. and we endeavour to make your pets experience in our hospital as stress-free and safe as possible. All patients are monitored closely by an experienced and caring nurse throughout their stay. In a separate dedicated area we have modern digital x-ray facilities to assist us in making correct diagonses. Our clinic has the latest laboratory equipment to run tests on your pet. Routine blood screens, heartworm tests, urine tests and electrolyte testing can all be performed in-house rather than sending samples away. further extensive testing is done by an external pathology sevice delivering prompt results. Our vets and nurses are up to date with the latest information and regularly attend conferences and courses to expand their knowledge.
