Veterinarian Dr Rod Sharpins Top 6 Tips for a Hoppy Pup this Easter!

1) Do not feed your pets toxic foods and drinks including chocolate, caffeine or alcohol. Don’t forget to remind your children and guests of the dangers. (This is a biggie!)

2) Keep chocolate out of reach and avoid hiding Easter eggs close to the ground if your dog or cat is around.

3) Keep your pet, especially cats, away from Easter lilies, which are highly poisonous and can even cause severe kidney failure.

4) Keep your pet away from Easter grass (the fake grass that often accompanies Easter baskets) as when ingested it can become anchored around the base of the tongue or stomach, often requiring expensive abdominal surgery.

5) Easter ornaments, while they aren’t technically a food, can also pose a health hazard. Always keep an eye on your pets around the Easter decorations and try placing pet-alluring decor in high places, safely out of reach.

6) Carrot sticks, de-seeded watermelons, green beans, cucumber, pumpkin and zucchini are safe snack options for pets this Easter.

Happy Easter Everyone!! 🐾💗🐰

Doggy Chill Day 🐾

As dog owners, we tend to spend a significant amount of time engaging in highly energetic activities with our pups.

Whether our daily bonding activities include playing fetch or running through the park or down the beach, we tend to feel like we need to be in constant motion when we are giving our pups attention.

While these activities are, no doubt, essential to our relationship as well for their health, we also need down-time together if we want a well balanced dog — a dog who wants to go to the park to play fetch for a couple of hours in the afternoon and wants to spend the night curled up on the couch hanging out with you.

Sometimes the concept of down-time doesn’t come naturally to some dogs, and it is actually something that they must learn over time.

Invite them to lay with you for a nap or to watch a movie, using long gentle strokes when you pat them, and rewarding them when they sit calming on their bed without being asked.

And remember dogs are intuitive and will absorb our energies. If you can be calm and sit quietly, breathing with contentment - your pup will too! 💗✨

I’m sure doggies all around the world don’t know that today is Valentines Day.

A day that society reminds us to shower all of our special people with love. But they don’t need a day to show this affection and gratitude to those around them.

They do it unconditionally, every darn day and without expecting anything in return. (except for maybe some cuddles)

Their hearts are always open, bursting with love for us. Let’s be more like doggies.

Let’s choose LOVE; every damn day!
💋✨❤️🐾

P E P E R M I N T: super-easy to grow; it will flourish and take over if you give it the chance. (it’s happened; oopsie. Now I grow it in a pot where it can be tamed)

While peppermint will help your dog with nausea and indigestion, it is also great for freshening your pooch’s breath, relieving toothaches, and soothing insect bites—not to mention it will give off a lovely fragrance! Mmmm minty fresh!!

Why do they do that?

fun fact: When dogs kick after going to the bathroom, they are using the scent glands on their paws to further mark their territory.

Mmmm so I guess it's not because they want to fling their do-do's at me? 😂💫🐾

For real ball-o-holics, you can use a game of turbo fetch to your advantage prior to a walk. This will help get your dog’s ya-ya’s out in order to make walks more pleasant – aka less pulling on the lead. 🙏

I use this technique with a few of my bigger dogs with high energy levels and it’s been very successful!
