Visit to Brisbane had m back to horses at 12:30pm, so naturally I wanted to ride Trent and Deirdre…ha, but bloody hot for that - for them and me!
Instead, big bath time for the little orange man, which he thanked me for by licking every drop of sweat off my face 🤭
On a side note, EquiCort topical cream has made a massive difference to the little spots of itch he has been getting this summer - talk to your vet! It’s a little pricey, but clears him up within days 👌

What a year 2024 was! Big fan of @equicoreconcepts EquiBands - I have used these extensively in a rehab program for a WB eventer a couple of years ago with excellent results, under guidance from Narelle Stubbs.
Today was a busy day at the agistment - excavators clanging around, so I thought I’d try Deirdre in the bands for the first time. The band around her bum is a little loose, but I don’t need her to be much sharper behind right now - I want her to lift her abs and then her wither, so have the ab band a little firmer.
A 15 min lunge was perfect for this girl - she wasn’t at all phased by the bands (or the excavators - I could have ridden 😆) and I can see her engage behind the saddle with the bands on.
This will become a regular occurrence for Deirdre to help strengthen her - either lunge or under saddle - a couple of times a week. Short and sweet workouts are best with this regime, plus she is not yet 4yo so I’m very aware of her growing bones and body. I’ll check in with Narelle upon her return from vacation and have her help guide me for best results.
Combined with regular bodywork, good shoeing, dental, saddle fit and her Benchmark Horse Feed diet of Invest and Super Fibre Mash, I look forward to watch her body changing and building up.
Nothing more exciting for me that starting from scratch and helping horses find their strength - Deirdre is not yet 4 and Trent is almost 19 and both getting stronger in their work 🐴💃💪

Something a little different today - took Deirdre out for a groundwork clinic with @kirralee.jones !
After some persuasion about loading on the float (thanks @leonierichards30 !) we made it and had an enjoyable session learning TRT methods with Kirralee.
Thanks to @natbooth__ for assisting with the much quicker loading to come home!
Looking forward to playing more on the ground with Deirdre as well as heading out for some ridden outings too - nice to have more tools in my toolkit for when we do go out!

5 months off, a lunge yesterday and first ride back today!
Thanks so much to Kane from @kpmequestrian for having the first sit on her today! Kane broke Deirdre in for me, so was a great reassurance to have him come have the first ride!
I did pop on for 5 minutes at the end and remembered why I love her so much - what a cool little horse! 🤎
Deirdre will officially turn 4 in November, so she’s back in work now to build up some strength and fitness and maybe aim for a comp later in year 🐴

Trent enjoyed his Red Light Therapy session yesterday and today felt bloody super under saddle - always nice to feel the results! ❤️

Next week my little family and I are taking a much needed week break in Coffs Harbour to take a breath - it’s been a big 8 months for all of us.
June 12-21st will see us down at SIEC for the Hawkesbury week of dressage comps - Trent and I will be competing in the Elementary. I will be available to treat horses on site that week - more info to come, but a special price for those competing 🐴
Off to surgery for my 7yo son tomorrow - the break healed well, but when the cast came off today, one of rods was protruding through his skin - that’s not what we need! Surgery to remove them both and let his healing begin - I’ll be red light him daily, too!
Deirdre gets her stitches out this Friday - all healing well…
I’ve mentioned before how grateful I am for Doctors and Vets, but can we have a little break from them now?! 🫠😆❤️

What a day to have my second sit on my lovely Deirdre - 10 days post chemo, I think I may have sweat my body weight out in that short ride!
Absolutely thrilled with this lovely filly - Kane Masters of KPM Equestrian has done a fantastic job starting her for her ridden career. The difference from my first sit 3 weeks ago is evident and I’ll bring her “home” with me next week!
