🚨 GDV: The Silent Killer in Large Dogs 🚨

Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), or bloat, is a life-threatening emergency where the stomach distends with gas and subsequently twists on itself, leading to severe blood flow restriction, shock, and sadly, if left untreated, death. Even with emergency surgery, up to 30% of dogs with GDV may not survive.

Sweet Ollie came into our Currumbin practice for treatment on a pretty severe ear infection. Due to his nervous temperament, we opted for sedation, a thorough ear flush, and a full exam to ensure the best treatment. A bit of mellow Jack Johnson tunes helped calm his nerves while we worked on getting him feeling better. 🐶🎧

Remember to regularly check your pet's ears, especially if they have floppy ears like Ollie here. Keeping your dog's ears clean and dry and checking for signs of infection can help prevent these uncomfortable issues from popping up. ❤

Ouch! Poor little Kenny had a grass seed stuck in his paw, which went all the way through to the other side! 😟 Thankfully, it’s all sorted now, and he’s feeling much better after that pesky seed was removed.

A reminder to all pet parents—check your pets' paws regularly, especially after outdoor adventures. Grass seeds can be sneaky and cause quite a lot of discomfort if left unnoticed. 🐾
