We’re already seeing an increase in lorikeets with Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome (LPS), and the season has just begun! This condition typically affects our beautiful Rainbow and Scaly-Breasted Lorikeets from October to June. While the cause of LPS remains unknown, the good news is that it is completely curable if caught early.
LPS impacts the lorikeets' ability to fly, walk, blink, and even swallow. You may find these beautiful birds lying on the ground, struggling to move. If you come across an injured or unwell lorikeet, please gently pick them up using a towel and bring them to any of our clinics for the care they need and deserve.
Recovery from LPS can take 4-6 weeks of intensive care by wildlife carers before they can be safely released back into the wild. Thank you for helping us care for these wonderful creatures! 🌈🦜💚
