BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATION:
Today I had a wonderful training session with Patience the German Shepherd Dog’s owners. We needed to teach her that when the garage door goes up, she’s not to run out. That there’s a “mental barrier” and what a star pupil she was. 🌟

As for this girl, she’s fired as my assistant. She’s supposed to be helping me fill the horses water troughs NOT making them dirty again so that I have to refill 🤣🤣

A beautiful day for a loose lead walk 🐕‍🦺

HOME STAY & TRAINING: LUCY
Lucy has been here previously for training but unless her owners use a head halter with her, they find she’ll still pull on the lead. Dogs should learn to loose lead walk. I don’t mind if Lucy walks in front of me, or has a sniff just DON’T PULL ON MY LEAD!! As usual, the training starts here before it’s done under higher levels of distraction (though Pluto is doing his very best to be a distraction 🤣).

HOME STAY & TRAINING: LUCY
Lucy has been here previously for training, and has returned so that we can build on what she previously learned. It is immensely gratifying to see that her owners have maintained her prior training. Welcome back Lucy 🐶

HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Daisy LOVES to be busy and she loves to assist me with all the chores. Whether we’re filling up water troughs, feeding chooks and horses or gathering pieces of bark that she deems valuable 🤷‍♀️, she’s right there with me and loving every minute of it. She’s obedient and listens well as she potters around with me. What she doesn’t like … is doing nothing! !

Desensitising to triggers. Often the ring of a doorbell, knock on a door or the click of a gate is a trigger for a dog to get excited and silly. The noise occurs and then someone walks in and greets the dog in an exuberant manner thus inadvertently training the behaviour. Here I’m training Daisy that the click of my gate is not a trigger. She’s doing really well remaining at place while I leave too. Good girl 🌼

HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Daisy not only needs physical exercise, she desperately needs her mind worked too. I’ve started her on a simple exercise today where she has to work out for herself (shaping) that she needs to place her front paws on the disc and keep them there. I have also introduced verbal markers so that I can communicate with her better. Once she understands the concept, I can then move away from her and ask for position changes eg: “drop”. She must still keep her paws on the disc. This is to teach her to lay down at a distance (away from me) and not come towards me to lay in front. She totally enjoyed the training and was picking up the concept quickly. Good girl Daisy 🌼

Still always ready to lend a paw: My beautiful Ziska the Labrador is 14 years old now and completely deaf, she’s been by my side that whole time which makes her totally adept at reading my body language. No need to turn up the sound for this video ( there isn’t any) ❤️

Home Stay isn’t all about training. If you want to build a bond with a dog then you’ve gotta have fun with it … and the scallywags had TOO much fun today 🤣. They played fetch, they swam and they got appropriately wet and dirty 🤣 Good dogs 🐶🐶

THERAPY DOG TEAM: Nope … that’s not Alice at the Gold Coast Airport with me today, it’s Sam’s Labrador Apollo, along with her beautiful GSD, Sabar. Both dogs are candidates for the AmbassaPaw program and were so well mannered as we wandered along meeting and greeting people. Good dogs 🐶🐶

Loving how well Daisy responds to training. Naturally, she loves to be active and using that brain. I also love that she totally ignores Ziska & Alice to concentrate on what I’m asking (and no, I don’t have any food in my hand). What a cracker of a dog 🌼

It’s a rainy afternoon, so both scallywags are in at the same time practicing their mat training whilst I have a late lunch. Peanut has opted by choice to remain outside and keep well away from them. Can’t say I blame him 🤣

HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Daisy’s working hard on her impulse control. She’s been laying on her mat whilst we’ve cooked and eaten tonight. Periodically, she contemplates getting off and pouncing on Peanut, obviously a dog who has never encountered the wrath of a chihuahua… yet!!

HOME STAY & TRAINING: NALA
Nala’s owners requested that she be taken out for some cafe training. As she can get easily distracted by other dogs, I did use her head halter today. She was such an excellent girl and her manners were perfect as she lay calmly beside my chair. Good girl Nala ❤️

Our Mission

We believe that the key to making a dog an intergral part of your family is clear communication. No two dogs are the same, each and everyone completely unique. We use our experience to help you communicate effectively with your dog

Our team of trainers are highly skilled and dedicated to helping owners and their pets to achieve the best possible relationship through good communication and training. We have dedicated over 12 years to helping owners and their pets develop healthy relationships on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Northern NSW. Our trainers all have their Certificate IV in Companian Animal Services with a focus on Dog Training and running classes. Combined we have trained thousands of dogs and will continue helping owners with pets.

We are focused on giving you the RIGHT advice built on years of study and experience. We will always be honest!

We recognise that every dog is unique and each owner is equally unique and we are skilled in trouble shooting and problem solving for each dog and owner unit we work with. What works for one dog may not work for another. We do not discriminate against any breeds and work with all dogs big or small. We are continually studying to ensure we have the latest and up to date training methods and techniques.
