BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATION:
Today I had a wonderful training session with Patience the German Shepherd Dog’s owners. We needed to teach her that when the garage door goes up, she’s not to run out. That there’s a “mental barrier” and what a star pupil she was. 🌟

Good recall Monte 🥰
HOME STAY & TRAINING: LUCY
As for this girl, she’s fired as my assistant. She’s supposed to be helping me fill the horses water troughs NOT making them dirty again so that I have to refill 🤣🤣
HOME STAY & TRAINING: MONTE
Guess who’s NOT coming into the house right now to do some mat training?? 🤣🤣
HOME STAY & TRAINING: LUCY
A nice relaxing walk out and about for Lucy too. Now it’s time for that cake and coffee! 🤣
HOME STAY & TRAINING: MONTE
A beautiful day for a loose lead walk 🐕🦺
HOME STAY & TRAINING: LUCY
Lucy has been here previously for training but unless her owners use a head halter with her, they find she’ll still pull on the lead. Dogs should learn to loose lead walk. I don’t mind if Lucy walks in front of me, or has a sniff just DON’T PULL ON MY LEAD!! As usual, the training starts here before it’s done under higher levels of distraction (though Pluto is doing his very best to be a distraction 🤣).
HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Daisy’s new found exercise regime. She’s a terrible swimmer but she does have a great recall 🤣
HOME STAY & TRAINING: NALA - the class demo dog 🐶
HOME STAY & TRAINING: NALA
Automatic “drop stay”. I think we even surprised Sam with this one 🤣🤣
HOME STAY & TRAINING: NALA
Drop; Automatic Stay; Duration & Distraction
EVERYTHING is a training opportunity - even the unglamorous stuff 🤣. Good girl Nala 🐶
HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Desensitising to triggers. Often the ring of a doorbell, knock on a door or the click of a gate is a trigger for a dog to get excited and silly. The noise occurs and then someone walks in and greets the dog in an exuberant manner thus inadvertently training the behaviour. Here I’m training Daisy that the click of my gate is not a trigger. She’s doing really well remaining at place while I leave too. Good girl 🌼
HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Daisy not only needs physical exercise, she desperately needs her mind worked too. I’ve started her on a simple exercise today where she has to work out for herself (shaping) that she needs to place her front paws on the disc and keep them there. I have also introduced verbal markers so that I can communicate with her better. Once she understands the concept, I can then move away from her and ask for position changes eg: “drop”. She must still keep her paws on the disc. This is to teach her to lay down at a distance (away from me) and not come towards me to lay in front. She totally enjoyed the training and was picking up the concept quickly. Good girl Daisy 🌼
Still always ready to lend a paw: My beautiful Ziska the Labrador is 14 years old now and completely deaf, she’s been by my side that whole time which makes her totally adept at reading my body language. No need to turn up the sound for this video ( there isn’t any) ❤️
HOME STAY & TRAINING: NALA
Nala also has a mighty fine recall, and chose to ignore the other dogs and come straight to me. Good girl Nala 😃
HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Loving how well Daisy responds to training. Naturally, she loves to be active and using that brain. I also love that she totally ignores Ziska & Alice to concentrate on what I’m asking (and no, I don’t have any food in my hand). What a cracker of a dog 🌼
HOME STAY & TRAINING:
NALA& DAISY
It’s a rainy afternoon, so both scallywags are in at the same time practicing their mat training whilst I have a late lunch. Peanut has opted by choice to remain outside and keep well away from them. Can’t say I blame him 🤣
HOME STAY & TRAINING: DAISY
Daisy’s working hard on her impulse control. She’s been laying on her mat whilst we’ve cooked and eaten tonight. Periodically, she contemplates getting off and pouncing on Peanut, obviously a dog who has never encountered the wrath of a chihuahua… yet!!
HOUND WALK: Just stopping for a midway regroup. A beautiful morning. Lovely way to start the day.
Come join us next time. Always the third Sunday of every month 🐶
HOME STAY & TRAINING: FRIDA
Frida did a wonderful job as “demo dog”’today in class. Good girl Frida 🐶
