PLAY | ZALI 🐾🦋

Anthea is progressing Zali's play to holding onto Zali's collar to build her drive to spring forward for the toy. Zali's eyes were then covered when the toy was thrown so she had engage all her senses to "search". Obviously, she enjoyed the game & the opportunity to expand her skillset in a fun way!

Just an example of some of the activities that your pup/dog may be involved in at a Puppy Development Day or Accelerated Learning Day.

Next opportunity is Thursday 10th April... get in touch with any questions, ,or feel free to book in via the website.

Puppy Development Day - pups aged 8-16 weeks
Accelerated Learning Day - dogs aged 16 weeks & over

HOME STAY + TRAINING: MALLA - ASSISTANCE DOG TRAINING
Malla, a gorgeous eight-week-old Groodle puppy, arrived last night and will be staying with us for quite a while. The goal is to train her to be an Assistance Dog for a wonderful young man and as such, she will need to be competent in full task work.
Once she settles in, our first step will be to clicker imprint her. The clicker will play a key role in her training, helping us mark the desired behaviours (nothing I use is faster at marking behaviours than the clicker!).
Her particular training will be a bit different from the typical Home Stay dogs you usually see here, giving you a glimpse into my world of puppy raising.
We hope you enjoy following her journey! Welcome Malla 🐶

SCOTTY UPDATE:
We’re so grateful that many people reach out to ask how Scotty is doing. Here’s the latest update on him.

It’s been 6 weeks since Scotty arrived, and with the right combination of a calm, stable environment and medication, we’ve seen some truly remarkable improvements in a very short time. He’s quickly become one of the easiest dogs I’ve ever had the pleasure of living with.
He rarely targets his foot anymore 👹When he does, it’s more of a half-hearted attempt, like he’s just going through the motions of a learned behavior, and it’s really easy to redirect him.
He no longer walks around on three legs with one front foot held up in the air.
He doesn’t bark or vocalize now when left alone or when we first return home.
He’s highly adaptable. Whether he’s relaxing in a crate in the house, a crate in the garage, his favourite spot in the back of my car, or just roaming around the property, he’s perfectly content wherever he is.
The medication he’s on is working well. He’s calm, happy, and interactive without being “sedated.” He’ll continue on these medications for the rest of his life!
He’s lost 1kg in weight, and looking so much better for it. (I sure wish someone controlled my daily food intake).🤣
He’s fantastic with all other dogs 🐕
He’s welcome to stay here for as long as it takes to find his perfect home—a calm, stable person who can maintain the same structure and care he’s thriving with. 🏡
We love you Scotty ❤️

HOME STAY & TRAINING: MASAI
Owners can choose for us to take their dog to Burleigh, and proof it on the training that we’ve been implementing. Masai encountered other dogs, brush turkeys, busy streets, chilled out at a cafe, had three ginormous husky’s get way too into his personal space, and … waited patiently whilst we did some retail shopping. I’m pleased to say that he took it all in his stride. Well done Masai 👏

Well that’s one way to get a dog to heel 🤔 😂

HOME STAY & TRAINING: MASAI
Gotta love that entitled person who can’t put their dog on a lead but also doesn’t have any verbal control over it 🤷‍♀️ Fortunately Masai was more interested in the treats we had to walk past than the loose dog. 👏

TRAINING TIP FOR NEW PUPPY OWNERS: 🌧️🌧️🌧️
Will you accept a dog toileting in the house, just because it’s raining?? 💩🤔
If not, it’s easy to teach your dog to toilet outside in the rain but …. this means that YOU will need to go outside with puppy too (puppy on lead) as you teach it that rain is not a problem. 🌧️😃
Peanut might be small but like the rest of the gang, he knows he’s not made of sugar. 💪

DUE TO RAIN, ALL CLASSES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED TODAY 🌧️

HOME STAY & TRAINING: MASAI
WALKING THE REACTIVE DOG 🐕

Whilst Masai is certainly not at all dog reactive, he can get far too focused on other dogs, so here’s a video to follow on from last week’s advice.

Firstly train the dog in a quiet area to walk nicely on lead ie no pulling ✅
If he can’t walk nicely in a quiet area, he can’t do it under distraction. ✅
Bring him into the heel position for better control (his shoulder in line with your hip) ✅
Shorten the lead for better control but under NO circumstances hold it tight ✅
Give him enough space/distance from the distraction so as not to exceed threshold ✅
Keep him moving ✅
Nicely done Masai ❤️

SAFETY FIRST 🚜🏍🛻🚐

In class we talk about a "wait" command being one of our most frequently used commands.. along with our release.

I initially started this video to show Merlin the poodle puppy walking nicely on lead, but quickly realised that it would be a great example to show Pluto & Alice automatically waiting at the invisible barrier of the front gate.

There was no command given at the time.
They truly understand that they are not to cross the gate track unless they are "released" over.

10/10 - Good dogs Alice & Pluto ✅✅

ACCELERATED LEARNING DAY

Zali is an impressive pup. From what I've seen, she has some great instincts and drives, but those will need to be satisfied. She’s incredibly smart—you can practically see her thinking. She’s also very determined; once she’s on a task, she doesn’t give up easily. With all these qualities, Nosework would be a great fit for her. This bright young lady will need more than just a walk around the block or a snuffle mat to keep her fulfilled. If her needs aren’t met, dogs like her often find their own ways to entertain themselves, and what makes them so trainable for the right task can sometimes drive us a little crazy too 😉

Our Mission

We believe that the key to making a dog an intergral part of your family is clear communication. No two dogs are the same, each and everyone completely unique. We use our experience to help you communicate effectively with your dog

Our team of trainers are highly skilled and dedicated to helping owners and their pets to achieve the best possible relationship through good communication and training. We have dedicated over 12 years to helping owners and their pets develop healthy relationships on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Northern NSW. Our trainers all have their Certificate IV in Companian Animal Services with a focus on Dog Training and running classes. Combined we have trained thousands of dogs and will continue helping owners with pets.

We are focused on giving you the RIGHT advice built on years of study and experience. We will always be honest!

We recognise that every dog is unique and each owner is equally unique and we are skilled in trouble shooting and problem solving for each dog and owner unit we work with. What works for one dog may not work for another. We do not discriminate against any breeds and work with all dogs big or small. We are continually studying to ensure we have the latest and up to date training methods and techniques.
