🚩As Tropical Cyclone Alfred approaches South East Queensland, it's crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of your pets. 🚩

Here are some essential steps to prepare:

Create a Pet Emergency Kit:

Food and Water Supply - at least three days' worth of food and water for each pet.
Identification - Ensure pets have collars with up-to-date identification and contact information.
Medications - Include any necessary medications along with instructions.
Comfort Items - Pack familiar items like toys or blankets to help reduce stress.

Secure Your Home:

Indoor Safety - Bring pets indoors to protect them from strong winds, heavy rain, and potential flooding.
Safe Space - Designate a secure area in your home where pets can stay comfortably during the storm.
Outdoor Hazards - Remove or secure any objects outside that could become hazardous in high winds.

Stay Informed:

Weather Updates - Regularly monitor local weather reports for the latest information on the cyclone's path and intensity.
Emergency Services - Keep contact information for local animal shelters, veterinarians, and emergency services handy.

Evacuation Planning: (We may not need this step, but if you have friends or family in areas likely to be harder hit, please pass the information along.)

Pet-Friendly Shelters - Identify shelters or accommodations that accept pets in case evacuation becomes necessary.
Transportation - Ensure you have carriers or leashes ready for safe transport of your pets.

After the Cyclone:

Caution Outdoors - Keep pets on a leash when venturing outside, as familiar areas may have changed, and hazards like sharp debris or contaminated water could be present.
Behavior Monitoring - Be attentive to your pets' behavior, as they may be disoriented or stressed after the event.

By taking these proactive measures, you can significantly enhance the safety and comfort of your pets during Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Remember, thorough preparation is key to ensuring their well-being in such situations

Teddy and Roxy are 18 month old Mareema's who popped in for their Bravecto Quantum injections.

Bravecto Quantum is a tick prevention injection that lasts for a whole 12 months! This is an excellent option for year round tick prevention, dogs who won't eat the chews or owners who would rather not have to remember to give the prevention every month.

Lola is an 8 year old Miniature Schnauzer who spent the day with us recently to have her teeth scaled and polished and a couple of small lumps removed.

This sweet little girl has the best puppy dog eyes and such a youthful face. She absolutely loves neck and chin scratches and I'm pretty sure she fell in love with Nurse Nicole.

This gorgeous little bundle of fluff is Stella.

She's a 13 year old Australian Silky Terrier who is a bit of a frequent flyer.

Dr. Kyra and Stella have known each other for years as Stella hasn't had the best run of luck with her health.

Most recently she spent the day with us to have a corn removed from her paw pad. We adore seeing Stella, she's such a sweet natured dog with such an expressive face. She is always beautifully well groomed and an absolute joy to snuggle with.

This is Kali, she's 4 years old.

When we first met Kali she was absolutely terrified of life. She would tremble and hide and not want anybody to come near her.

Her human rescued her when she was about 2 and has been working so incredibly hard to ease Kali's anxiety about life.

We're are absolutely amazed at how far she has come. Although we wouldn't exactly call her confident, she doesn't shake any more and will happily take treats. She still paces nervously, but doesn't hide behind her Mum.

Kali's human has endless love and patience with this gorgeous girl, we think they're both incredibly lucky to have found each other.

It's a great idea to bring nervous dog to the vet frequently. We encourage quick, treat and love filled visits to help ease their anxiety about the vet. You are always more than welcome to bring your dogs down, weigh them, offer some treats and just sit in our reception area for a few minutes.

Lots of quick, positive visits to the vet can be very helpful in reducing their stress levels when they come in for health checks or when they are unwell.

Boston Terriers Alfie (6 years) and Bella (5 years) popped in recently to see our wonderful nurse Justine, for a post op check.

Alfie had a dental scale and polish a couple of weeks ago and our nursing team like to touch base and ensure each patient is feeling fit, healthy and back to their happy selves.

Bella came in as moral support and to ensure Alfie didn't get more treats than her.

If you hit a wallaby on our roads, please always stop and do a pouch check.

Thank you so much to the wonderful clients who accidently hit a wallaby today and then brought her and this gorgeous baby in to us.

Sadly the Mum had been killed and the joey was too young to save.

You are always welcome to bring wildlife straight in to us. There are never any fees associated with bringing wildlife in for care.

What to do if you hit a Wallaby or Kangaroo:

🦘Stop and pull over safely
🦘Check the animal from a safe distance
🦘Check the pouch
🦘Call your local wildlife rescue organization
🦘If the joey isn't attached to a teat, remove it and keep it warm and quiet
🦘Cover and contain the animal in a box lined with a towel
Keep the animal in a quiet place
Don't give food or water unless instructed by a trained wildlife rescue volunteer or a vet

Moe and Kenzie came in to have their tick prevention injection.

This is an injection (Bravecto Quantum) that will protect your dog from ticks for 12 MONTHS!

We love Bravecto Quantum as it is peace of mind for a full year. No making sure you've given them their treatment ever month (product dependant) and no worrying if they ate it or spat it out when you were not looking.

Give us a call to book in prevention for you dog.

This pretty girl is Lacey-Blue!

Lacey-Blue got herself into a bit of trouble recently when she ate some Nurofen tablets.

Nurofen contains ibuprofen, which is toxic to dogs and can cause serious illness. Even one or two tablets can be harmful.

Symptoms:

😫Vomiting
😫Abdominal pain
😫Black, tarry stools
😫Weakness
😫Lethargy
😫Loss of appetite
😫Excessive thirst
😫Increased urination

Serious effects:
😫 Stomach ulcers
😫Kidney damage
😫Seizures
😫Brain injuries
😫Death

Thankfully Lacey- Blue's humans got to her quickly and we were able to induce vomiting before keeping her in hospital for supportive care for the day. Her blood tests have come back looking fabulous!

This exceptionally handsome fellow is Walter, what a perfectly regal name for him.

This gentle giant was having a delightful morning playing with his friend at the park. Unfortunately things went a little pear shaped and the friend decided to take a bite out of Walters face. 😔

Walter's absolutely beautiful humans hurried him in to see Dr. Ross, Nurse Lauren and the rest of the crew where we were able to clip and clean the wound before sending Walter home with some antibiotics and pain relief on board.

Naturally we were so sad to see the poor boy in pain, but oh gosh we were thrilled to meet him!

The Vet isn't adorable Daisy's favourite place, but she's slowly coming around to thinking that perhaps we're not that bad after all.

Cuddles, pats, treats and vet visits that don't involve getting anything poked at you have helped. Her canine sister Millie also helps! Millie is happy to see everyone, all the time, even when they're holding the pointing vaccination needles!

Darling Dexter came in recently to see Dr. Kyra for an ultrasound.

This gorgeous boy had a skin cancer removed 3 years ago and now undergoes routine checks to ensure there is no spread of the cancer.

We simply adore Dex with his quiet, smoochy nature and absolutely divine love-me-and-give-me-treats eyes.

Although Kirby may look like you shouldn't feed him after midnight (for those born after the 80s, please disregard that comment) he's actually a 3.5 year old Chihuahua X!

This absolutely gorgeous little boy spent the day with us recently to have his teeth cleaned. He was such a good boy for his medications and catheter.

Check out his pearly whites in the after photo 😍

Hudson is a 4.5 year old English Mastiff who weighs in at a whopping 97.4kgs.

Poor Huddy had an extremely sore paw so his Mumma hurried in to see Dr. Mark and the team.

It was all hands on deck as we maneuvered Hudson around the clinic, ensuring both he and our staff remained safe and comfortable. Hudson is a gentle boy and a little bit of a scaredy cat, however he handled the many faces and trolley rides like a boss.

Huddy's paw was really swollen and he was struggling to walk on it, you could see the pain and discomfort in his face.

After some x-rays and further investigation under sedation Dr. Mark diagnosed Hudson with an interdigital abscess which is a painful, pus-filled boil that develops between the toes.

Our nursing team clipped and cleaned his paw before Dr. Mark opened the abscess, thoroughly cleaned it and sutured the wound.

Hudson walked out in the early evening to see his family with a much happier look on his face, visibly more comfortable than when he arrived.

Thankfully Hudson is recovering well and the wound has been looking great when he comes in for bandage changes.
