🎓What does it mean to graduate Puppy Academy?🎓

Puppy Academy is a course designed to help you start your puppy’s life on the right paw and to build their confidence and relationship with you 🐶 Each puppy is assessed throughout the course and graduated on the below achievements:

🎓 They have improved confidence
🎓 You have excellent and clear communication with them
🎓 They can perform their obedience commands reliably
🎓 They are on the path to successful toilet training
🎓 No attention seeking behaviours I.e. biting, barking or jumping
🎓 Good leash manners
🎓 They are calm when being handled
🎓 As a pet parent you have a good understanding for their general care and wellbeing
🎓 You are able to understand how to help your puppy overcome their fears or phobias
🎓 Your puppy is able to play safely, confidently and respectfully with other pets and people
🎓 They can sit still long enough for a photo with the graduation hat on! 🤪

🌩️ Your puppy and storms 🌩️

It’s important to desensitise your puppy to storms from an early age. Storm phobia can become quite severe if ignored and is commonly mistaken for the puppy to “grow out of it”.

Unfortunately, we cannot control storms, however we can control and introduce the sound to our puppy and slowly desensitise them 🐶

✔️Tips to helping your puppy overcome and cope with storm phobia:
🐾 Start desensitising them to the sound appropriately.
🐾 Provide them with a safe space to go i.e. a bed nearby you or an area a blanket/ tent.
🐾 Use of training aids such as pheromones to reduce fear or stress.
🐾 Use distractions such as food games or training (depending on levels of fear).
🐾 If your pet shows severe storm phobia then a discussion with a vet for behavioural advice is highly recommended.

🌩️ Signs of storm phobia:
⚡️Unsettled behaviour prior to storm
⚡️Hiding away or seeking cover
⚡️Pacing
⚡️Trembling
⚡️Panting

More severe signs:
⚡️Excessive panting
⚡️Toileting Accidents
⚡️Destructive behaviours
⚡️Drooling
⚡️Vomiting or Diarrhoea
