In 2021 I found the perfect race for Watching, a C&Gs bm58 1100m at the Gold Coast... Watching cruised into the straight as predicted and Tramonto cruised on by him to win by a widening 6 lengths... 2 starts later Tramonto got beat a head in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas.
In 2021 we had Accessory primed for the bm75, Provincial stayers championship at Ipswich. Accessory led them a merry dance until the 500m, when Incentivise took over and raced away. Choking on his dust, Accessory bravely held on to 2nd, 9.5lengths behind Incentivise. Incentivise went on to win his next start by 10 lengths in a Group 3, followed by a hat-trick of Group 1s including the Caulfield Cup and finishing his preparation off with a 2nd in the Melbourne Cup.
My last 4 runners in 2021 all finished 2nd. Out of our 37 runners for 2021 we felt that winning feeling 3 times, tasted bronze twice and played the bitter bridesmaid on 10 occasions.
Winning isn’t everything but neither is coming second!
We have Satine heading up to Toowoomba tonight in race 3 @ 6:20pm. She drops in trip on a 6 day backup which isn’t ideal but the race looks suitable and I’m hoping Jackson Murphy can kick the NY off in style and go one better. Good luck to her connections 🤞
On a very positive note, we became tired of patching up Watchings flat tyres and decided it was time to retire him after a brave 3rd at Warwick. Friend and owner Nath Bower has given him a sensational forever home, exactly what he deserves. Every runner came home safe and sound. We head into 2022 striving for the same result.
Wishing all my current and future owners the greatest of success in 2022. I really do appreciate the support and don’t take for granted the opportunity to play with your horses for a living.
Also a big thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout the year, far too many to make mention, you know who you are and I’m thankful.
Happy New Year and all the very best,
Josh Sweeney Racing.
