Did you know that we offer horse husbandry guidance?

Many families come to us with a curiosity to learn about how to care for a horse. Often, this is taught alongside with Riding and Horsemanship lessons, and prepares students for the responsibilities of owning a horse.

Through this program, participants learn about essential elements of horse care, including:

Safety around horses
De-worming (Drenching) and how to recognise signs of infection
Feeding and nutrition
Rugging
The social needs of horses
Hoof care
Common illnesses
Paddock danger prevention

Whether you already own a horse, or are considering owning one in the future, this knowledge is vital to the health and safety of both horse and human.

Meet the Team: Tara

The newest member of our team is Tara, who has lots of experience assisting with pony camps, general duties and helping to run our programs. She has a passion for all things Western, and is a talented jumper. She is a hard worker, currently spending as many hours as possible working with horses and expanding her knowledge.

Tara’s help is greatly appreciated at our holiday programs. She is known to stay back later than necessary to help in any way that she can, as well as being an exemplary teaching assistant during lessons. Our students feel at ease with Tara, and her gentle demeanour translates to her horsemanship skills.

Tara is a responsible and keen learner, and we hope to have her on board for many years to come.

Meet the Team: Abbey

Abbey is an important part of the team and we are always grateful for her determined and patient attitude. She has great timing and “feel”, and she has helped to desensitise many of our client horses.

Abbey has even given a client pony her first ride under saddle, in Winter 2021. She persists when challenges arise, and knows how to change her approach when it is logical to do so. She has dealt with many young and inexperienced horses during her time with us, and she constantly impresses us with her determination and efforts.

Abbey has been a wonderful asset to Tempo Horsemanship, exposing young horses to new environments, assisting in the education of horses and helping with other general duties including helping Claire to run holiday programs.

Meet the Team: Brianna

Bri has a passion for horses, livestock and agriculture. She has been around horses her whole life, and is a wonderfully helpful and innovative member of our team.

Bri has been riding horses since she was a kid. She enjoys taking horses on long rides to expose them to new surroundings, including beaches, forests, towns and busy roads. She often helps to progress horses through our desensitising program, and is very capable of applying and adjusting pressure and release.

Bri possesses extreme intelligence, a great work ethic and a degree in Animal Science. Bri is the mastermind behind our feeding and worming regimes, and her knowledge base is extensive. We all have much to learn from her, and greatly appreciate her input at Tempo Horsemanship.

Meet the Team: Matt

Matt has been riding since his early childhood, and has grown into an experienced and intuitive horse trainer. Matt has worked with Claire for the last three years, and we can always count on him to put his hand up for the fast and adrenaline-promoting tasks, such as teaching horses to jump.

Matt is extremely gifted in his horsemanship and his ability to earn the trust and affection of a young, timid horse. He has brought many horses from barely handled to highly-trained athletes, and is often in the round-pen with Claire during the first rides for young horses.

We are very fortunate to have Matt working with us full-time, as well as his trusty childhood appaloosa pony, Sheriff, who occasionally participates in lessons with beginner riders.

This week, we are making a series of posts to introduce our team. This content can be found on our website, in the "Meet the Team" section of "About Us".

Today, we would like to introduce Claire.

With 13 years experience as a professional horse trainer and horsemanship coach, Claire delights in sharing her knowledge with others. She teaches clients on their own horses, as well as students on her horses. Her coaching is understandable, accommodating, and productive.

Her interest lays in starting horses, re-educating horses, and "problem-solving" for a harmonious relationship between horse and rider. Her method is kind, clear, and consistent.

Claire has enjoyed training a variety of different horses in her program, ranging from Brumbies to Stock and Quarter horses, Walers, Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds, Arabians, Riding & Welsh ponies, Shetlands, Miniatures, and more.
