NEH Hoof Care Practitioner

NEH Hoof Care Practitioner Offering Equine hoof care to the greater Sydney areas. Barehoof trimming and booting consultations and shoe removal and transition programs available.

Why call myself a hoof care practitioner over a bare hoof trimmer? As part of the study of the Equine Podiatherapy we are trained to not just trim the hoof, but assess its function and overall aspects of how the horse uses its distal limb and body. Our paradigm/ guiding principals is to use an anatomical landmarks of the hoof to provide a trim that will improve function. We look closely at patholo

gies like seedy toe, white line separation, flaring, club hoof and hoof distortion to decide what would help the horse most to improve function at this place and time. And prescribe a trim which will assist the horse form a hoof to remedy these pathologies. As I'm yet to complete my diploma I've chosen to call myself a hoof care practitioner. Im a person who has engaged in studies and practice my guiding principals with every trim. And feel that this is the most accurate description of the services I provide.
- Hoof Trimming
- Treatment of pathologies
- Hoof boot consultations
- On going analysis of the progression your horse makes as part of my care.

Hoof balance is not just a nice buzz word, many trimmers and Farrier's talk about it. How is it being practiced on your horse,is important for the longevity of your riding career.

Hoof mapping is in my opinion a great tool to achieving balance not just in dorso palmer, but also medial laterally. And is in valuable too for identifying distortion in the hoof capsule or the limb.

Hoof mapping is not a new idea. During a 2016 presentation at the International Hoof-Care Summit (IHCS), Steve Foxworth traced its origins to the work of pioneering farrier William Russell, as well as to more recent work by David Duckett and others.

Has been a great year of teachings this year, and I strive to have the best hoof care services available. But your clients at time can limit your success if they not willing to take recommendations on to hoof care.

There is a definite client / HCP relationship, as to how much you can benefit the horse from each treatment. If the owner won't take on your program you may as well say goodbye..

So learned some valuable tips in hoofcare rehab from one of the best in the business, Pete Ramey. What a great 2 days and a fab way to connect with other Hoof Care Practitioners who travelled far and wide to attend his clinic.

This year I've been super busy with some rehabs of my own, so I'll get around to posting some progress shots shortly.

It's always nice to get shots pre and post trim on concrete. But asking them to stand there whilst I do the trim can be a bit of an ask.

Standing on cement significantly reduces blood flow to the horse's hooves. Research has shown that addition of a wash cloth between hooves and cement will increase the blood flow. Protein sources are not always what they appear to be. It's hard to test all hay in Australia the sources vary and are few and far between . But as a guiding rule, I think it's a good one.

Although most people can quote the percent protein in their feed, and manufacturers make a point of it, this particular piece of information is almost worthless. The horse’s protein requirem…

Our Story

Why call me a hoof care practitioner over a bare hoof trimmer!

As part of the study of the Equine Podiatherapy, we are trained to not just trim the hoof. I provide composite shoe therapy and castings as a service.

I assess its function and overall aspects of how the horse uses its distal limb and body. Our paradigm/ guiding principals are to use anatomical landmarks of the hoof to provide a trim that will improve function and balance.

I look closely at pathologies like seedy toe, white line separation, flaring, club hoof and hoof distortion to decide what would help the horse most to improve function at this place and time. And prescribe a trim which will assist the horse form a hoof to remedy these pathologies.
