The clip clop sound of hand crafted horse shoes against the bitumen road leading into CQLX yesterday had staff welcoming Julien Welsh and his team from Kooweerup Victoria who was stopping over before reaching his final destination, Rockhampton.

With over 2000km under his horses and cart and 4 months travelling the old stock routes, his team Harry 9 year old Percheron, Dusty 7 yo stock horse and best friend N***y can finally call last drinks on their trip.

Julien’s motivation for his long trip from Melbourne to Rockhampton was to escape his fast paced life as a race horse trainer and take some time out for himself. He only encountered 4 days of bad weather and one accident, leaving a local community helping to get his cart and team back on the road.

Julian expressed, “It’s been an amazing trip, meeting amazing people and seeing amazing country.” Julian will visit with his family before he heads back to his busy life.

Yesterday the laneways at Central Queensland Livestock Exchange - CQLX were filled with inquisitive students from Yeppoon State High School Agricultural class who were on site to learn everything on BUYING and SELLING cattle.

Brett Cross explained estimating weight, bulk weighing and how the cattle are processed after a sale. Matt Olssen from Ray White Rural Gracemere and Liam Karrasch from Brian Dawson Auctions Livestock & Property Marketing spoke about SELLING and Denis Donovan from Cutting It With Denis Donovan and Mark Howard from Howard Livestock Services on BUYING.

The Students enjoyed a Signature CQLX Burger while they let everything sink in. 😀

Informative days like this help educate and influence our younger generation within the cattle industry.

CQLX would like to extend their thanks to the Agents, Buyers and Staff who took the time out of their busy day at the weekly Prime & Store Sale to speak with the students.

What a jam packed weekend of working dog action brought to Central Queensland Livestock Exchange - CQLX Austadium from the team at Ray White Livestock Rockhampton Dog Trial & Working Dog Sale who have worked tirelessly to bring the most prestigious Working Dog Action in the country right here to Central Queensland. We saw record numbers and record prices for man’s best friend and hired hands.

Experienced handlers and dogs ran off in the Queensland Veterinary Specialists Sire Shoot out for the bragging rights of the top dog and grab a piece of the lucrative purse on offer.

The beers were cold and the wine was sparkling while the vendors and sponsors enjoyed truly tasty appetisers in the CQLX function room and bar saturday afternoon. The Exchange Cafe buzzed with hungry and thirsty on watchers daylight till dark. What a great BIG weekend had by all.

It’s Day 1️⃣ of the Ray White Livestock Rockhampton Dog Trial & Working Dog Sale 2023

With rotation 3 underway it’s a great time to head to the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange - CQLX Bar for a cold beverage or 2 🍺…

We have our dinner service commencing from 6pm!

Hope to see you all from 5am tomorrow with the second round of the Working Dog Trials followed by the finals from 10am.

Pre works will kick off at 12pm, with the Presentations commencing 4.30 pm, followed by the Queensland Veterinary Specialist Sire Shoot out at 6pm.

This afternoon the big stops and flat spins were being made here in the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange - CQLX Austadium in preparation for tomorrows Reining Event. We caught up with Ed from Ed Smith Reining & Performance Horses who is the President of the The Calliope Sliders. Ed has been training Reining horses for 15 years and has won multiple Futurities and Derby’s.

We took the opportunity to capture some great photos of Eds partners gelding ‘ME LIL BENTLEY who will perform in the Derby and Open tomorrow.
They have a wide range of competitors from youth green riders to open professional trainers showing tomorrow.

The Exchange Cafe will be open from 7am tomorrow.

The Next NRHA - Oceania Queensland State Championship Show will be held in June the 8th, 9th,10th and 11th, right here at the Austadium. Lock it into your calander.

The grounds here at Central Queensland Livestock Exchange - CQLX Austadium are prepped and ready for The Calliope Sliders Reining Horse Club. They will be hosting the first NRHA - National Reining Horse Association NRHA - Oceania Show here in Gracemere QLD. Starting tomorrow at 8am, head down and check out these amazing horses in action.
