This Sunday we are offering nail maintenance in the half time break. Cost will be a $10 donation to the club. Dogs must be happy about their feet/nails being handled, we will not be fighting with any dogs. If your dog does not like feet being handled, we will start a desensitisation program which might take months until your dog is happy about nails being done. There will be no charge for the starting of desensitisation as you will be doing most of it at home.

Very sorry for those waiting on entries opening for our March scent trial as we can not open tomorrow. Unfortunately we changed the venue back in November, which meant it had to go back to the Dogs NSW scentwork working party, and they did not meet in Dec, or Jan, so we must wait for the Feb meeting for new venue to be approved. We will open asap and will advise here, and advertise on the Scentwork FB groups too. Rest assured it is a great new venue and will be worth it.

Following are the details of is weeks one off Scent Work class.

(a) we start half an hour earlier, ie 2.30 till 4
(b) we run two groups. We try to roughly split them so the more
experienced are all in the same group and the less experienced are all in the same group. Angela runs one group through, and Mandy will run the other group through.
(e) Angela's people do the container search with feedback that she has proposed. Mandy's group work on another exercise - it will be "find another" - moving on quickly and confidently to the next hide. (f) Everyone stays in their group and watches, they do not wander off to the other search, or to have a chat.
(g) After 45 minutes we change over and Angela has the people that started with Mandy, and Mandy has the people that started with Angela.
(h) The remaining Scent Work & Trainee Instructors assist either Angela or Mandy ie Jan, Jenny, Leisa. Mary & Tangil.

At the GDOC awards on Sunday 2nd December Tara and I were honoured to again receive the Pebbles Tracking Award presented by Jenny Byrnes in memory of her Tracking Champion dog Pebbles. It is a beautiful trophy showing a carved dog in tracking stance. I am so proud of my beautiful girl the first dog from GDOC to become a Track & Search Grand Champion (with an excellent rating).
Tara is also a Tracking Champion and has passed her TD 9.
Hopefully the weather gods will be kind next year & Tara can pass her TD 10 for a second Grand Championship.

Our club’s VI P program (Visiting Ibteractive Pet program) has been in recess for a number of years but I’m hoping to get it up and running again. The program was to assess and accredit dogs and handlers to visit residents in aged care facilities. Many elderly people in care have had to give up their pets when moving into care and love the opportunity to interact with a friendly visiting pet. Originally there were 2 parts to the program - to accredit dogs to visit elderly residents so they can interact with a friendly visiting dog; with a second group of dogs to be able to participate in a group display for groups of residents. At this stage we are looking at accrediting dogs to visit residents who would like to interact with a visiting dog. All breeds are welcome to participate and dogs need to be friendly and enjoy interacting with strangers. if you and your dog become involved in the program it is up to you how often you visit - whether that is weekly, fortnightly, monthly or whatever time frame works for you. Please comment below if you are interested in you and your dog being accredited as a visiting pet. The program will only start up again if we have enough interested club members.

15/12/2024

We are planning to have our walking group running during the break if there is enough interest, starting on Sunday 5th January at 8.00 am. We will walk each Sunday until training resumes. We will go to a different location each week. You must be a club member to participate (you can join on the day) plus there is a $2 fee each week. Please arrive at 7.45 am so we are ready to walk at 8.00. The walk will start with a short loop of about 15 minutes and then go for a longer 30 minute loop. You can then just do the short walk or the whole 45 minutes depending on your fitness level and the age and fitness level of your dog. This a great opportunity to socialise your dog and to put your training into action. All club members are welcome to participate. To help us gauge interest, please comment below if you would like to join in. If you have any questions, put them in the comments and we’ll get back to you.
