Did you know that tree hollows are essential for the survival of many Australian species? These natural shelters provide safe places for animals to sleep, hide, and even raise their young. But they’re becoming increasingly scarce and that could be devastating for some of our wildlife.

🏡 Why Are Tree Hollows Important?
In Australia, 17% of bird species, 42% of mammals, and 28% of reptiles rely on tree hollows.

⚠️ The Problem?
Hollows don’t form overnight. In fact:
🌿 Small hollows (for species like the eastern pygmy-possum) take about 100 years to form.
🌿 Medium-sized hollows (for parrots) take around 200 years.
🌿 Large hollows (for animals like the masked owl) can take even longer!
As land is cleared and old trees are cut down, these vital shelters disappear, putting countless species at risk.

💡 What Can You Do?
✅ Protect and retain live and dead hollow-bearing trees
✅ Leave fallen trees on the ground they’re just as important.
✅ Plant native trees that will produce hollows in the future.
✅ Build and install nest boxes to provide alternative homes for hollow-dependent species.

🐾February 22nd is National Walk Your Dog Day🐾

Walking your dog is more than just exercise, it’s an opportunity to bond, keep healthy, enjoy the great outdoors together & make new friends!

✨ Let your dog sniff
Sniffing isn’t just fun for dogs, it’s mentally stimulating & helps reduce stress.

💧 Bring water
Always keep water on hand to keep your pup hydrated after exercise.

Why regular walks matter:
✔️ Physical health: Walking helps maintain a healthy weight & keeps your pup fit.
✔️ Mental health: Exercise releases endorphins, improving your dog’s mood (and yours too!)
✔️ Socializing: Walks are a great way to meet other pups & pet parents while helping your dog feel more confident around others.

Let’s celebrate tomorrow by grabbing a leash, heading outside & making tails wag! 🐶

Farewell Dr. Gabby 👩🏻‍⚕️

It’s with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to our wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Gabby, as she moves to be closer to her family. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re so grateful for the time, dedication & care she has given to our clinic, patients & clients.

Dr. Gabby has been a valuable part of our team, providing exceptional veterinary care. We know many of you, both two-legged & four-legged, will miss her just as much as we will!

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, please be mindful of the flowers you bring into your home 🌻

While a bouquet is a lovely gesture, some blooms can be dangerous to pets. Even a small nibble can lead to serious health issues, including vomiting, organ failure, and in some cases, fatal reactions 💀

To keep your furry friends safe, opt for pet-friendly alternatives like roses, sunflowers, or orchids—because love should never come with risks ❤️

If you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic plant or flower, contact your vet immediately. Acting fast can make all the difference.

If you've visited our clinic in the past few months, you may have noticed our Snake & Tick Tally Board. Well, the final results are in!

Over the past 5 months, we’ve had:
22x pets hospitalised for snake bites 🐍
46x pets hospitalised from paralysis ticks

While 46 is still a concerning number, we’re pleased to report a significant decrease in paralysis tick cases this season!

We believe this improvement is thanks to our responsible pet owners who have been proactive with giving their pets tick prevention, conducting regular tick searches & staying vigilant during tick season.

Let’s continue working together to protect our furry family members all year round. 🐾
