We could not recommend these girls more highly - they may not be the prettiest of heritage breeds however if you are after practical, hardy hens with excellent egg laying capability - New Hampshires are for you! We have a range of ages available, including -

Hi everyone, I just thought I would do a quick post about Coccidiosis in Poultry. There are a lot of my customers that are getting chicks/pullets for the first time and may not be aware of Coccidiosis and what to look out for.

Coccidiosis is a common and highly contagious parasitic disease affecting poultry, caused by Eimeria species, which infect the intestinal lining. The disease is typically characterized by symptoms such as diarrhea (often bloody), poor growth, weight loss, lethargy, and in severe cases, death. It primarily affects young birds, particularly in crowded or unsanitary conditions. The infection spreads through the ingestion of oocysts (eggs) found in contaminated food, water, or litter and is very common after it has rained and the ground has been wet.

Treatment with Baycox:

We recommend Baycox to treat Cocci and find it to be very effective. Baycox is a coccidiostat commonly used to control coccidiosis in poultry. It contains the active ingredient Toltrazuril, which works by inhibiting the development of Eimeria oocysts within the host's intestines. Baycox is administered in drinking water at the dose rate of 3mL to 1 litre of water.

Baycox comes in a 1 litre bottle and is quite expensive (plus you would never need that much for a small flock), please know that we sell 30mL bottles for $25, and when raising young hens we would recommend everyone has some on hand 😊
