Maddie Raymond Racing is an emerging thoroughbred training stable based in Warrnambool, Victoria. Paddy went on to work with Ciaron Maher and Lloyd Kennewell.

Maddie has always had a passion for horses, from riding ponies as a child, to owning her first thoroughbred mare as a 13-year-old,

Maddie was destined to spend her life with horses. Her first taste of working in the racing industry was when she started part time for a local trainer in Warrnambool while finishing off her education. Maddie further developed her knowledge and experience by later working for the likes of Darren Weir, David Hayes and Lindsey Smith in Foreman and Assistant Trainer roles. Maddie also spent six months in Ireland at champion trainer W***y Mullins stables, and in 2019 travelled to Dubai with Brave Smash preparing the Group 1 winner for trainer Kris Lees. Maddie is well-known for her role in preparing 2015 Melbourne Cup winner, Prince of Penzance, and six-time Group 1 winner Black Heart Bart. It hasn’t taken Maddie too long to make an impact on the race track with her small team. After securing her trainer’s licence in January 2020 Maddie trained her first winner when Lil’ Angel saluted the judge in February and snared her first country cup in October when Wentwood ran away with the St Arnaud Cup. Paddy Bell’s love for racing was inspired by three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva but his career in the industry to date has been defined by his association with unbeaten champion sprinter Black Caviar. The New Zealand-born horseman began his career with Grant Searle and it wasn’t too long before Paddy progressed from track-work rider to jockey. After a short, but successful career in the saddle, Paddy arrived in Australia and began work with Peter Moody. It was with Moody that Paddy travelled interstate with horses picking up Group success at major carnivals around Australia and with Moody’s confidence in Paddy growing he would soon be travelling overseas with the champion trainers best horses. Paddy travelled to Royal Ascot in 2011 with Hinchinbrook and returned the following year with Black Caviar where the champion mare took out the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. It was with Kennewell that he travelled overseas with Viddora, this time to Dubai where he met Maddie, who was also in Dubai preparing Brave Smash for Kris Lees. Returning to Australia the pair teamed up working for Lindsey Smith as he opened his Victorian stable based at Warrnambool and in 2020 started Maddie Raymond Racing. 🚀 🐎 A John Allen special resulted in AKITU breaking through for its maiden victory at just his third race start at Southside Racing Cranbourne. 🐎 🚀

Jumping from a wide gate, Johnny quickly placed AKITU in a great position, settling just behind the leaders and made a decisive move upon cornering, surging to the front. The favourite trailed closely but Akitu outlasted him in a thrilling finish.

Lot 583 – Almanzor (FR) x Arabian Night (GB) filly
We’re thrilled to pick up this lovely filly by Almanzor filly for $95,000(NZD) at New Zealand Bloodstock .

On the grounds at Karaka we inspected a lot of yearlings and this filly from Haunui Farm was an absolute standout.

This filly just showed us so much power. She had a lovely big hind quarter on her. She was very correct. Had a really nice bold attitude and a lot of presence about her.

We are super excited to get her in the stables with us. She's got a lot of two-year-old about her and she's registered to run in the Karaka race series as both a two- and three-year-old.

It was a nice return to form for SAILORS BOOK at Geelong Racing Club. Johnny Allen took bad luck and the wide barrier out of the equation early as he flew the gates and went straight to the lead.

When Johnny and Sailors Book went for home entering the straight they gave nothing else a chance.

Lot 1224 – Brave Smash x Lady Enid (AUS) c**t.

Purchased at Magic Millions from Lyndhurst Stud Farm for $46,000.

We are thrilled to pick up this Brave Smash c**t.

A multiple Group 1 winning sprinter, Brave Smash won the WFA Manikato Stakes & Futurity Stakes.

We’ve already learnt that Brave Smash progeny are tough and they train on. I was taken by his shape; attitude and his walk reminded me of his dad who I had a lot to do with having travelled him to Dubai for Kris Lees.

He's a half-sister to Pedro's Tycoon, Man of Oar and Miss Razyana the dam of WA winning machine Fabergino. A grey also, Fabergino won black-type races in Victoria & Western Australia, showing a particular affinity for the straight course at Flemington.

Kimmorley’s always shown us a bit. Like a lot of kiwi stayers he needed time to mature. We haven’t rushed him and the team at home have done a terrific job educating him.

The Maurice mare was slow away over the 1100 metre trip. Settling last, NIJIKO produced a rail hugging run to produce a suburb victory.

It’s an end to an era with my first ever runner, Wentwood, to retire.

‘Woody’ was the first horse I saddled up as a trainer in January 2020 and I could only have dreamed of him going on to win the St Arnaud, Werribee, Terang and Bendigo Cups and being named Country Racing Victoria’s Horse of the Year.

Harry Grace once again partnered with the 3YO filly and they made it two wins from as many starts.

Harry Grace rode ROLLS to victory in the Warrnambool Cup ROLLS outstayed Not Usual Glorious in the carnival feature handing Maddie and the team a milestone victory. ROLLS gave Grace his first stakes victory. "Honestly, I'm a little lost for words. Everyone said that that last 100 when you hit the front and my God did that feel like forever," Grace said. "I've got complete and utter confidence in Maddie and Paddy. They're a fantastic team and they present these horses in the best order they can and when they told me they were looking at the back-up here today, I was overjoyed.”

HOME RULE proved too good for his rivals chalking up his fifth win and Maddie’s first during the famous Warrnambool Carnival. The 5YO Rebel Raider gelding jumped the short price favourite and didn’t let the punters down.

Rolls picks up a metropolitan win at the Oakbank Easter Festival with Harry Grace on board. His victory is the six-year-old son of Anacheeva’s sixth win from 30 starts. Well done to all his connections.
