We recently said goodbye to one of our beautiful patients who was had recently turned an amazing 14 years old and has been coming to us for regular hydrotherapy and laser therapy sessions since January 2023 😎
Gus was as lovable as they come, who enthusiastically looked forward to his visits and was as bouncy as a puppy after his treatments 🐕
He originally came to us after having his right cruciate ligament repaired in late 2022 but had faced a number of challenges in recent months and had an increasing number of health and mobility issues 🧸
Gus was bright and happy to the very end, lavishing love to his very dedicated mum and sister Poppy, and we now wish him a peaceful and pain free eternal rest 💗
We'll forever hold fond memories of Gus's visits with his sister Poppy by his side, nudging him out of the way to get her fair share of cuddles, and the joy he brought to us all. Rest peacefully dear Gussy 🌈
Meet Layla 🐾
This gorgeous little lady has been attending regular hydrotherapy sessions with us and while she got off to a shaky start with her rhythm, she's improved enormously with her confidence 🤗
Unfortunately she's hit a snag recently with a disc in her neck causing her some trouble so she's on strict rest for now but we're crossing our fingers that she'll be back soon to continue her recovery from cruciate surgery 💗

Meet Sadie 🐾
This sassy gal is having regular hydrotherapy sessions with us to assist with maintaining musculature and strength as she ages and to help with reducing some intermittent lameness in her front limb 🐕
Sadie has taken to her sessions like a duck to water and enjoys regular snacks while she's walking. She's increasing her time and speed gradually in the underwater treadmill to achieve her therapeutic levels of treatment 🏊♀️

Bolt is home and recovering well from her total hip replacement surgery! 🐾
This brave girl had her first, and hopefully only, total hip replacement on her right hind limb last week and has been recovering well under the watchful eyes of her dedicated parents and sibling King 🐕
The team at Southpaws in Melbourne handled Bolt's surgery fantastically, after her owners had put in an awful lot of preparation time at local vets around the southwest to get her ready for the big procedure 💗
Bolt was very nervous of vets prior, and the team at Warrnambool Vet Clinic and Cox Street Vets in Hamilton allowed her to attend for regular check ups in the lead up to the surgery to get her used to being handled and treated, as well as coming here for regular hydrotherapy sessions to build her strength, which she loves! 🏊♀️
We wish Bolt all the best for a full recovery and we look forward to seeing her back to recommence her rehabilitation program in around 6 to 8 weeks time once her vets have signed off on her progress thus far 🧸

This gorgeously pretty girl with the long eye lashes has been coming for regular hydrotherapy sessions to reduce her pain and improve her recovery and mobility following TPLO surgery after tearing the cruciate ligament in her right stifle 🏊♀️
Mabel is progressing beautifully with the whole family participating in visits when possible and getting in on deciding which treats Mabel will need each session 🧀 🥜🧈

As our longest continually attending member of the Canine Therapies Warrnambool family, Dougall deserves to celebrate his birthday in style 🐕
We will be posting another update in the near future as Dougall is nearing his 100th visit with us since commencing treatments in January 2022! As our 5th patient, he started with us following a fibrocartilagenous, or spinal, embolism (FCE) in October 2021 and while he was recovering well, he needed both hydrotherapy and laser therapy to build up his musculature and strength again 🙂
Dougall is now on a long term maintenance program, where he attends fortnightly, continuing to have both laser and hydrotherapy sessions to maintain his strength and to keep his right hind limb and spine healthy and mobile 🏊♀️
As you can see, Dougall loves his treats and is the life of the party so we hope you had a fabulous birthday buddy and look forward to celebrating many more with you 🎂🥳🎉🎈🎁🎊💗🐾

Meet Bolt 🐾
This special girl is coming to us for prehab prior to her having a double hip replacement starting on her right limb in March, and possibly her left later this year depending on her recovery 🐕
She was rescued by her dedicated owners at a tiny 8 weeks of age and they found out about her poor hips causing pain at only 10 months of age 😞

Meet Concrete Comedy 🐾
This handsome fellow has been visiting with us for regular hydrotherapy sessions to assist with healing of a fractured and dislocated calcaneal bone that he sustained while racing 🏃♂️
Fortunately his dedicated owners were committed to Comedy receiving the best care, and he underwent surgery at Geelong Animal Referral Service (GARS) to repair the damage 🐕
While his progress has been slow, he's starting to try and weight bear on the limb during sessions and his committed owners are doing regular physiotherapy at home 🏡
Comedy will be staying on as a companion dog with the family as they just love his gentle nature so much 😀 what a gorgeous boy 🤗

Meet Poppee! 🐾
We thought we'd start the new year with a bang with a miracle girl who has blown us all away! This plucky girl was running at the Blue Hole with her family on a sunny Spring day in mid November, and when they went to leave Poppee jumped into the car as she has thousands of times, sadly this time she missed... her beautiful owner describes seeing her get her front legs in but missing with her hind legs and falling backwards. Despite her owner trying to catch her, Poppee fell to the ground landing right on the base of her tail causing instant paralysis in her hind limbs 😞
Rushing her the The Vet Group Wollaston, they performed xrays which showed that nothing was broken so this was clearly a spinal cord or disc issue. With her mum wanting the absolute best for her little girl but not being in a position to have complex scans or surgery, Poppee came to us for treatment soon after 💕
What has occurred over the last month has been nothing short of miraculous! With weekly sessions of both laser therapy and hydrotherapy, as well as uncountable hours of dedicated treatment at home by her amazing owner, plus a lot of love, Poppee is now back to running with her four other doggie pals! 🐕
In chronological order in the video you can see that she initially had no mobility in her hind limbs at all, this very quickly led to sores forming on her feet as she tried to navigate around. Her mum made some custom socks for her to prevent further wear and also hired our fabulous new pram for outings with her crew. Amazingly, she never actually needed the pram as she was recovering so quickly with all the care she was being provided and within a few weeks, she was starting to stand unassisted, which quickly led to wobbly walking! She was still regularly falling down but with the help of her doggie friends and her mum's dedication, she continued to improve! 🚶♀️

Adopted from our local RSPCA in September, Millie has become our special boy Saxon's younger sister 💙
While Saxon continues to attend twice weekly for hydrotherapy treatments to keep his aging body fit and healthy, Millie has started regular sessions to try and build some muscle onto her tiny frame 💪
She is progressing beautifully, both with her hydrotherapy sessions and with building her confidence at home 🏡
She's still got a way to go yet to become the outgoing dog we know she can be but with big brother Saxon by her side, we know she'll shine brightly in her own time ⏲️ 🌞

Dearest Loki, who was coming to see us for regular hydrotherapy sessions during his teenage years for optimal growth, has sadly been diagnosed with elbow dysplasia recently 💔
Loki's dedicated family have sought expert advice from a number of specialists, deciding the best options for his long term future and late last week, he underwent surgery on his more severe elbow. Whilst the recovery period will be long, we hope to see Loki back for his regular hydrotherapy sessions soon, but this time it will be for rehabilitation instead 🏊♂️

Meditation Monday with Mouse! 🐁
Many of you will know that our family who run Canine Therapies Warrnambool is made up of owner/therapist Shannon, general manager Muppet and assistant manager Willow. Whilst Shannon is responsible for the vast majority of the day to day tasks, Muppet takes his job of 'looking adorable sleeping in the sunshine and greeting guests at the window' very seriously while Willow never misses an opportunity to thoroughly clean the lickimats after use and uses her long legs to inspect whether any traces of peanut butter have been left on the inside of the treadmill glass!
Well, over the past few months, we've been fostering a very special girl through Hear No Evil, Australian Deaf Dog Rescue. Her name is Mouse and she faces a number of challenges in her life, sadly being irresponsibly bred causing her be born deaf and blind and with possible neurological issues. We fostered her as a wee puppy back in 2021 and after going off to live with a family for 2 years, sadly she was recently returned due to some reactivity that has developed. We are currently helping Mouse to work through those issues so she can find her forever family but for now we'll give her all the support and care that she needs.
Unfortunately Mouse has recently been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and while she is not a good candidate for surgery for a variety of reasons, we are keeping her comfortable with regular hydrotherapy sessions and when she is calm enough, laser therapy sessions as well. Looks like she came to just the right place to provide her with the right care and management for her variety of conditions! We hope you enjoy seeing an insight into the world of deaf and blind dogs and realise that although they can have challenges, in many ways they are just like any other dog, needing guidance, love and care.

Meet Hugo 🐾
This gorgeous boy is coming for regular hydrotherapy and laser therapy sessions to maintain his mobility as he has Intevertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) or similar compression in his spine 🐕
Whilst his hind limb mobility will likely continue to decline over time, keeping his core strong and his hind limbs moving will help to maintain the muscle he has and slow the decline 💪
Hugo is a very happy boy, especially where treats and snacks are involved, and we look forward to seeing him each week and watching his confidence grow ❤️
