Today at Hound Dog Hotel Day Care it's Bikkie's first birthday. So we celebrated with a cake and a song!
Bikkie & Jasper had both had a Spa treatment - double shampoo and later a brush. Here immediately after the usual doggie antics times two!
Cutest Cavoodles !!
Cavoodles just wanna have fun! These two Day Care guests have become firm friends and this is their favourite game - watched on by Billie the Border Collie. It's worth watching to the end to see Jasper's clever trick!!!
If your dog likes mud / don't go here!!
Green Point is quite nice to walk your dogs but definitely not at low tide. You have been warned check out this video!
You must be kidding!
when even the dogs can't be motivated to go out, you know it's bad out there....
Agility Part II - cheats do prosper!
Bob and Leo trying to copy Jasper. They get treats too as they are making an effort!
AGILITY PART I Cavoodle Jasper shows how smart he is!
1) Agility course Aced by Jasper (almost)
2) Part two follows showing the others trying to get in on the act
After TPLO surgery on her left back leg, Shelby is now into the start of her 3rd weeks stay with us (she will be staying for 6 weeks in total).
She is now into the next stage of her rehabilitation - which is on-leash exercise (but for just 10 minutes twice a day).
With a plate and screws in her left hind leg it is vital no undue stress is put on it.
This is why in the video she wearing a Halti - it limits her pulling and avoids pressure on that back leg.
In the video it looks as if she has her leg down again, but in fact she does hold it up quite a lot of the time and hop on three legs a bit.
But putting it down to the ground is progress and what her vet described they wanted to see.
Her wound is healing well, it is a bit swollen along part of the stitches.
We are her carers but don't make decisions about actions - instead a report with photos sent to her owners 2-3 times a day. They then decide if they want to come and see her themselves and/or take her to the vet for review if they see fit.
She is an absolutely adorable dog. One daughter has already owned a Boxer. Seems a cert the other daughter here will be getting a Boxer herself after this experience:-)
Does your dog refuse to swim? Well if so don't give up, because after 4 years trying to get Coconut to swim - finally, success!
We used Avoca lagoon which banks gently, is shallow and warm and that made a big difference to her confidence.
We took her in a few times (tried that many many times before though) but with a ball on the second day and with me going in the water too she followed and after that it was suddenly as if she'd always swum.
She stayed out and swam around as if realising what fun she's been missing all these years. She even retrieved a ball and held it above the water swimming back to shore with it with expert skill.
HoundDogHotel been closed during renovations. Still not open as such but helping out a couple of clients. Here 2 gorgeous Golden Retrievers - Herbie super excited to greet his pal Charlie.
Their last night together...... they’ve got on extremely well, and even shy George has become much more relaxed in just a few days as part of a balanced pack.
3 dogs with perfect manners! When we’re out people often ask me how is it that my doggie guests are so well-behaved. Well first of all, I meet guests before they stay and only take well-behaved dogs at the HoundDogHotel. Second of all, just like when you take children to a restaurant, they have to have good manners at home if you expect them to be civilised when in public! So I reinforce good manners all the time, whether it be when eating or going through doors first. Small things matter!
Noticed something very interesting about the way Izzy & Leo were playing with the ball. They both love to chase it but up till now once Izzy got it she wouldn’t let it go. But it seems she and Leo have invented their own game. When Izzy gets it first she is deliberately throwing it to Leo - who then picks it up and brings it to me and the game starts again. Clever dogs:-)
SLOW-MO ball catch fail but 10/10 Tess for agility!!!!
Bright spark Tess goes for the Mensa Challenge!
The only guest ever to figure out how to open the baby gate is Tess - a super smart Border Collie. She could easily open it at night and sneak into my bedroom, but she’s so good she doesn’t. However, come day time all bets are off - each time I go through she opens it and follows me. Clever girl!
Cheeky Coco teases Toby!
Just posted Coco's full montage to my website - if you've got a couple of minutes and want to enjoy more of her antics (shown here) head to: https://hounddoghotel.net/videos/
With so many toys which one to choose? Not the oldest one - Herbie drops it like a hot potato and goes straight for one of the new ones!
