Little Rosie was desexed last week and was such a brave girl for her procedure! Desexing your furry friend has heaps of health benefits. The most obvious benefit of desexing dogs is to control the dog population and reduce unwanted pregnancies. Desexing also prevents your dog from developing certain diseases, such as testicular cancer (in males) and uterine cancer (in females). It also helps to reduce the risk of certain behavioural problems, such as aggression and roaming.
Desexing female dogs will also:

- Stop their monthly cycles and stop messy bleeding;
- Eliminate the risk of pyometra (infection of the uterus);
- Reduce the risk of mammary (breast) cancer and ovarian cancer (the earlier they are spayed the less the risk, especially if before their first cycle).

Desexing male dogs will:

- Prevent them from spraying urine to mark their territory;
- Stop them from roaming to find a mate;
- Reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

If you are thinking of getting a dog, it is important to consider whether or not you want to desex your pet.
Desexing is a safe and effective procedure that can provide many benefits for your dog. If you have any questions about desexing, please reach out to us!

Cats are naturally stoic creatures and are very good at hiding signs of pain and discomfort. This can be especially true as they get older, and it can be difficult to know when they are struggling. However, there are a few signs that you can look for that may indicate that your cat is in pain, such as difficulty jumping, tucking their bodies up in a hunched position, and a decreased interest in playing or other activities. If you notice any of these signs, it is important to talk to your veterinarian right away so that they can get your cat the care they need. There are many pain-relieving options available for cats, and your veterinarian can help you determine which is the best option for your pet. Call us today to discuss a senior health care appointment for your feline companion, and we can help get them feeling young again!

We understand that canine cough can cause our furry friends a great deal of discomfort, and we don't want to see any of our canine friends suffer through days and nights of coughing and wheezing. Canine cough is still a very common disease, but we stock the latest canine cough vaccine, which provides local protection right where the infection occurs. If your dog is due for vaccinations, ask us about our oral vaccine for canine cough.

Maple recently visited us for a dental polish and an extraction. Her pearly, white, and bright teeth look wonderful now, and she was very brave throughout the whole procedure. Her day involved a lot of care and preparation to make for a stress-free, painless procedure!

1. Admission into the hospital, settling into a comfortable bed, cuddles with Nurse Sam :)
2. A preanesthetic blood test and health check, to make certain that she wouldn't have any issues with the anaesthetics
3. A premedication to relax her for the surgery and make for a smoother induction
4. An intravenous cannular for fluid therapy; to help her metabolize the anaesthetics and aid in a smoother recovery
5. Dental radiographs; to check the structure of the teeth
6. Extraction of a problematic tooth causing a tooth root abscess, Ouch!
7. Scaling and polishing of teeth; removing plaque and tartar
8. Strong pain relief for our brave girl to keep her comfortable and antibiotics for the active infection.
9. Moved to our recovery beds for close monitoring post-operatively and some R&R :)
While resting the team let Maple's parents know that she was out of theatre and in recovery resting. She would be ready to go home for the rest of her recovery in a few hours. Meanwhile the team would make her post-operative pack up for her in preparation for her discharge from the hospital.

Dental hygiene is vital for our pets, and 85% of pets have some form of periodontal disease. If you feel your pet may benefit from a dental scale, call our team to schedule a dental examination, and we can work together to give your pet a beautiful smile.
