We've had a lot of enquiries south side, so we'll be delivering every second Wednesday!

Are you at a different agistment centre and have a bunch of mates who are also interested in setting up regular deliveries? Shoot us a message and we'll see what we can work out.

Laminitis prevention tip #2! Make sure your horse still has access to tested low sugar quality forage

👩‍🌾 LAMINITIS PREVENTION TIP 👩‍🌾

It’s tempting to place our good doers in a “Jenny Craig” paddock and tell them air is life, but we still need to keep their guts active and happy otherwise you may welcome unwanted ailments such as ulcers and colic, blood sugar level spikes, and other conditions associated with poor nutrition.

Therefore, when you bring your horse in from pasture, it is important to provide them with a constant source of low sugar hay. Using a slow feeder hay net can help with both pacing and wastage.

Make sure your hay is actually low sugar and if a diet plan is needed you need LOW ENERGY too. Contrary to popular belief “low sugar” variants can test with moderate to high sugar, protein and digestible energy - trust me, we’ve filtered through some batches in our time! Make sure it’s tested - each batch, each paddock - lucky for our customers we do this for you, so feel free to ask us for test results if you need :)

You can soak the hay to make it even more laminitis friendly.

Laminitis prevention tip number one - what time do you turn out your horse? Do you have a creative track system?

🌱 LAMINITIS PREVENTION TIP 🌱

For those of you without track systems and paddock paradises; you can consider restricting grazing time to help buffer your good-doers or sensitive-sillies from the grass.

Turning out at night and bringing them into a large yard where they can move in the day can help reduce the amount of sugar that your horse ingests as sugar levels tend to spike during the day and is the worst in the late afternoon.

The later you can turn out and the earlier you can bring in, the better! Optimum lowest sugar grazing time is between 2am-10am, but many people like to sleep sooooo...... just do your best!

But when you bring them back in, be mindful of what they're eating - more on that tomorrow!

What an evening!

We are so grateful for the extensive knowledge that Dr Heidi from Borambola Valley Veterinary Podiatry Centre shared with us last night! And, we are so grateful for everyone who took the plunge and attended our first ever Neigh Night. You guys and Dr Heidi made for an evening that simply couldn’t have gone better 🥹
