It never stops on the farm.

Bert and I had an awesome weekend away in Gatton at the poultry auction, taking a trailer load of fowl to the auction (and only bringing back half a load of birds we purchased lol)

The darling downs poultry assoc did a fabulous job running the auction, so a big thank you to them, we can’t wait for the September auction in Toowoomba hehe.

Back home at 9:40pm Sunday night, we were buggered,
And today we were doing catch up with all the fowl, and Bert being Bert thought he would throw in some cattle work too lol.

Our Sussex are bred for show and quailty, but generally these fowl make excellent dual purpose birds for the farm, laying an abundance of eggs and being an excellent table bird.

What an absolutely fabulous and fantastic day Bertie and I had at the gunnedah poultry show!
Golly gosh, there were so many amazing fowl entered into the poultry show this time round, some pretty pekins, lovely langshans, marvellous moderns, loveable leghorns, amazing australorps, incredible Indian game and so much more!

Both Bert and I walked away with some firsts, seconds and some champion cards, but the ones we are excited about is Bert’s “Colin Finlay memorial” Champion light Sussex 2024 ribbon, which off course he got for his striking light Sussex pullet, look at the smile on his face!

And I was very happy to receive reserve champion waterfowl with my black Indian runner Drake, with plenty of compliments and tips from the one and only, Gary Phillips, who was one of the amazing judges this year.
(He didn’t know they were mine until after judging)

Also, a shout out to the Gunnedah poultry club for putting on a spectacular show, an amazing feed, putting their spare time, which most of them don’t have, to have such an excellent turn out, Well done!

Well done to all who entered and had a go at the Gunnedah poultry show for 2024!

What an eventful day, The stags are in full rut, busting fences and wandering off to buggery (luckily we got everyone back safely and the fences sorted) and with the Toowoomba auction on Sunday, we’ve been picking out some absolutely fine birds to take with us, here is a video of the Buff Cochins we are taking, along with some of Angus Barlows show stopping black leghorns!
