🐴 Pryde’s ambassador and Scone-based para-dressage champion, Andrew Driffield continues to ride his way to success, recently winning Gold at the 2023 Virtus Global Games in France, as a member of the Australian Equestrian Team - a winning team that also went on to take home the ‘Team of the Year with a Disability Award’ at the renowned NSW Champions of Sport Awards.

Did you know horses begin to expend energy to keep warm when the temperature 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝟱°𝗖? Rugging horses in winter can help to minimise associated weight loss.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁?
❄️Horses have a wider thermal comfort zone than humans (𝟱-𝟮𝟱°𝗖 vs just 25°C for humans) so even if we are cold, it is likely that our horse is not.
❄️When the temperature drops below 5°C shivering, often contributes to horses losing weight over winter.
❄️Shivering (the rapid contraction of muscles to keep warm) is a thermoregulatory process seen in both humans and horses, that is fuelled by energy stores.
❄️Rugging horses in winter can minimise this by decreasing their need to regulate temperature on cold days and nights.
❄️Rugs are particularly effective when cold weather is combined with rain.
❄️Wet weather decreases 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (when your horse’s hair stands up and traps warm air close to their body) so they have to shiver more to keep warm.

Don't let the diet be the variable in your horse’s performance 💪

Pryde’s feeds are made to a set recipe because consistency matters and delivering quality nutrition means knowing exactly what you are getting in every batch.

When done correctly, least cost feed formulas may provide the amount of energy, protein, vitamins, and minerals specified, but ingredients will often change, and protein quality can be compromised.

Both are members of NSW’s high-performance squad. Both were advanced State and National Champions last year. Robbie and Hollande Bend Rococo (owned by Jane Bartram) were NSW State Small Tour Champions 2023, while Dave secured the prestigious State and National Medium Tour Champion title the same year with Estupendo.
