GIVING ORAL MEDICATION TO PETS🐶😸
Giving a pet oral medication that must be swallowed, can be frustrating and even near impossible with an uncooperative pet.
💊THE “MEATBALL” METHOD
Roll a small “meatball” of wet dog or cat food and see if your pet will swallow it with minimal chewing.
Try giving a small treat without the tablet first, then a small treat with the tablet and finish with a small treat without the tablet.
💊MANUALLY GIVE A PILL
You can do this with your fingers, or with a special pilling device.
Don't try to aim the pill straight down the throat simply put the pill far back on the tongue and let your animal do the swallowing.
💧THE DROPPER METHOD FOR LIQUID MEDICATIONS
Liquid medications will come with a dropper that you can use to administer the medicine.
DO NOT tip your pet’s head back when using liquid.
Hold your pet’s mouth closed and use a finger to pull open just the lips on one side so you have a “pouch” between the teeth and the cheek, far back to one side of the jaw.
Quickly sq**rt the dose into this pouch, then hold the mouth closed, stroke the neck.
❗️Always read the label and follow your vet’s instructions for dosage and application of any medication or supplement.
If you are concerned that you will not be able to give tablets to your pet, then discuss this with your vet as there may be other options.

What is Leptospirosis in dogs❓
Rodents, wildlife and livestock can carry the leptospirosis bacteria. Contact with infected urine in soil and water spread the disease❗️ Leptospirosis in dogs can also spread to people for that reason it is important to protect not only our dogs but ourselves ❗️❗️
✅Prevent leptospirosis in dogs by vaccinating your dog at your local family vet against Leptospirosis.
All vaccines it is not 100% effective for that reason:
❌Restrict dog’s access to wildlife and pools of water that wildlife access.
❌Avoid areas which have evidence of rodent activity.
❌Keep your dog on leash when walking to avoid accidental interaction with contaminated material and drinking or playing in standing water.
❌Practice good hand hygiene.
