Please spare a thought for our wildlife in this heat! If you’re able too, please place containers of water outside in shady areas for the animals. Please put sticks and rocks in the containers so smaller animals don’t drown. 🙏🏼

Our bats especially will struggle with this heat. They experience heat stress in temperatures over 38 and temps
42 and over can cause death.

If you see any bats exposed in daylight over the next few days (as they may be struggling with the effect of the heat for several days after the fact), please call us ASAP on 0438 489 914 for anywhere in the lower/upper South East.

UPDATE - A big thank you to Lord Linen Services at Tweed Heads for coming to the rescue and donating a car load of hand towels! Thank you!!! This donation will get us through the rest of this busy season.

We will organise another linen drive in early 2025 for the general community to donate to, once we get through this crazy time.

🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏

📣 Bulk face washers and hand towels needed urgently for wildlife! 📣

Our wildlife rescuers and carers are in desperate need of some used hand towels and face cloths/washers. With so many wildlife coming into care during the breeding season, and now the added influx of paralysis cases in both lorikeets and flying foxes, we are desperately short of supplies. 🦜🦜🦇🦇

Do you have a contact in a commercial laundry? Or perhaps a hotel? Ex-hotel linen is perfect for our wildlife but volunteers can't afford to purchase bulk supplies from Marketplace listings. If anyone has surplus stock they would be happy to donate, we would love to hear from you. 💛

At this stage we mostly need hand towels and face cloths but could also accept bath mats and cotton tea towels. Due to storage constraints we cannot store any more sheets or linen.

Unfortunately our volunteers are completely inundated at the moment and we don't have the resources to run a linen drive so are looking for a bulk donation of items if possible.

Ute trays get hot!
While your dog may love the wind in their hair while travelling on the back of a ute, always check the utes surface temperature before allowing them to travel on them.
Ute trays should be covered with a material that will not hold the heat to prevent serious burns to your dogs paws.
Metal trays heat up and hold the heat at cooking temperature on hot summer days so before you let your dog up, check the temperature by holding the back of your hand on the tray surface for 10 seconds, if it is too hot for your hand it is too hot for your dogs paws.

From icons like kangaroos and platypuses to the more unusual antechinus and bowerbird, our Aussie animals are amazing!

Plus, they’re unique! More than 80% of our species can’t be found anywhere else in the world. But sadly, many face serious threats from poachers, illegal hunting, and even humans who think they’re doing the right thing.

Help native wildlife with these top tips:

🌳 Protect the places they live: forests and parks provide food and shelter. Always leave trees, dead logs, and rocks alone, and never leave litter behind.
🔓 Keep them wild: getting too close or touching wildlife disrupts their natural behaviours like resting, feeding, and breeding.
🍴 Let them feed themselves: food handouts impact the diet, foraging skills, and fear of humans they need to survive.
🐶 Be a responsible pet owner: keep cats indoors and dogs on leashes.

We investigate reports of wildlife crime, including habitat destruction, and encourage you to report to us on 1800 333 000.

It’s going to be a scorcher across NSW today and tomorrow ☀️ 🥵

A friendly reminder to please look after your animals. Ensure they have:
💧 Access to plenty of fresh water
🌳 Adequate shade for them to keep cool (even better if they are able to stay indoors)
🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️ No walking in the heat!!

From all the animals and volunteers at Rescue Hub - stay cool, safe and healthy 🧡
