๐Ÿ’ฅโ€ผ๏ธEMERGENCY๐Ÿ’ฅโ€ผ๏ธ

Well done Dr Damien for making it to this emergency calving in a very busy schedule todayโ€ฆ

This calf is super lucky the owners recognised a heifer not progressing normally with birth and called for advice straight away.

In this case, the heifer showed no progression after 15 mins of active pushing.

The job is not over yet as we try and get this first calving heifer to mother up, not an easy task!

Well done owners and fingers crossed the heifer takes to this calf or itโ€™s time for the bottle!

Some take home messages:

1. Observe your pregnant cattle and recognise any deviation from normal progression, itโ€™s still a judgement call but take a look at link below:

https://www.bovinevetonline.com/news/education/when-assist-calving

2. Better to be over cautious than not

3. Have good facilities including a crush

4. Be careful with breeding too early, a heifer needs to be adequate size so there is room in her pelvis to expel calf. We normally advise to join a heifer at approximately 5/8ths mature body weight.

Thanks everyone! See you on the road!

Hi MRVS Folks!

We had the most amazing time delivering our very first kindergarten educational talk last week! It was so heartwarming to see the children's faces light up as they learned about veterinarians and caring for animals. A big thank you to the staff at Alma Street Pre Prep for hosting us and always being so wonderful and respectful with our little people. Thank you to the team at MRVS and the Alma children for participating in this fun visit and to Evie Gelling for helping us out on the day ๐Ÿ˜

Special mention goes to Mrs. Kimmie for an outstanding performance of a horse owner during our role play ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿด๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ“žโ˜Ž๏ธ lots of fun had by all.

Hey MRVS Folks!

What a fantastic winters day we had yesterday during our first equine gastroscoping event in Gympie!

It is always satisfying adopting advanced diagnostic tools to improve the health of our horses. Check out the comments section weโ€™ll include a video so you can see what we can see inside the stomach of a horse!

A huge thank you to Andrew from Randlab for generously providing the scope and of course Hope Reins for hosting us.

โ˜€๏ธ It was a beautiful day to be out in the field, learning and growing as a team, collaborating and most importantly, implementing treatment plans based on the best diagnostic tools available ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽ

Introducing SLEIP! So cool ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

This advanced technology uses artificial intelligence to provide objective data in support of our clinical interpretation of lameness in horses. Always keen to test new advances in equine science, we have used this a few times already and we are very impressed!

We can even invite horse owners to record their horses from their own devices. The analysis video and data are automatically uploaded to our account, enabling quality remote support and monitoring.

Take a look at the website to learn more!

Have a great weekend everyone! ๐Ÿด๐Ÿด๐Ÿด๐Ÿด๐Ÿด๐Ÿด

Good evening MRVS Folks!

Lorraine here!โ€ฆ.

I hit the road today with Damien, the awesome large animal vet! I saw some interesting cases and learned heaps by observing Damien while he interacted with animal owners. He explained the importance of on-going management relating to a nasty equine foot abscess and demonstrated some valuable techniques to help owners manage the treatment of an equine eye ulcer (a tricky task to say the least ๐Ÿ˜ฎ).

I always admire how well Damien interacts with animal owners ๐Ÿ˜ His professional manner, effortless patience and ability to practically think outside the box when faced with some difficult limitations is truly commendable.

For me, meeting clients face to face is just the best ๐Ÿฅฐ. I love being able to pitch in and make a difference alongside Damien too. Here's to more days of hitting the road together! ๐Ÿด

Attention all MRVS horse owners! ๐Ÿด

** TETANUS ANTI TOXIN IS OUT OF SUPPLY**โ€ผ๏ธ

Did you know that tetanus is a serious and potentially deadly disease that can affect horses?

It is crucial to vaccinate your horse for tetanus NOW! The tetanus antitoxin is in short supply with an unknown supply date. This is what is used short term in cases of open wounds where the horse is at risk of tetanus and is not vaccinated.

Symptoms of tetanus include muscle stiffness, difficulty swallowing, and respiratory distress. The mortality rate for horses with tetanus is estimated to be around 80% without treatment ๐Ÿ˜ง

Don't wait until it's too late, protect your horse today!

Hello MRVS Folks!

Happy Easter to all our amazing equine and livestock animal owners! ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿด๐Ÿฎ We hope you enjoy this special time.

Weโ€™re closed tomorrow the 29th March and will return for business on Monday 8th April.

Weโ€™ve had a busy time leading up to the Easter break. The team has been working tirelessly on a range of cases from equine dentals and x-raying to pregnancy testing on cows and freezebranding.

Despite the rain and challenging muddy conditions, the team always enjoy meeting with our clients and ensuring the health and well-being of their animals.

Even Lorraine, who is usually attending to administrative tasks in the office had an opportunity to head out in the vehicle to assist with X-rays and freezebranding and loved it!

We appreciate your continued support and trust in us.

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter filled with chocolate and quality time with your animals and family.

See you on the road!

Hey MRVS cattle owners!

Did you know that botulism can be a real danger to your herd? ๐Ÿ„ ๐Ÿ˜ง

Botulism in cattle can be rare but is a serious condition and when it occurs, it can be devastating for producers. Sadly, we have seen a number of cases in the last year that may of been prevented.

It is caused by the ingestion of the toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This toxin is usually related to decaying animal or plant matter and can enter the cattleโ€™s body through contaminated feed, water, or wounds.

It can result in paralysis, respiratory failure, and death. Symptoms in cattle may include weakness, difficulty breathing, drooling, and inability to stand. Treatment is very often unrewarding. Preventative measures such as proper sanitation and vaccination can help reduce the risk of botulism in cattle.

Make sure you're taking preventive measures like vaccinations and proper feed storage to keep your cattle safe and healthy. ๐Ÿ’‰๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿฎ

Please note, 7in1 does not contain the vaccine to protect against Botulism, it is a separate vaccine..

See you on the road! ๐Ÿ‘
