Private Rehoming – Zac

Update Friday 19 Apr
Zac left today for a 2 week trial with a new family. We're very confident it'll work out. Thank you to everyone who has enquired or offered to temporarily foster. We're very fortunate to be surrounded by such a great community.

Zac is a 5 month old working line German Shepherd who is looking for a new home. Unfortunately his older companion at home isn’t coping well with Zac’s presence, so the owner has made the decision to rehome Zac in order to provide the older dog a better quality of life.

Zac is a confident and friendly young dog who has been well socialised around a variety of people, children, cats and environments including public ovals and dog parks. There are chickens in his current home and he will chase them if left unattended, but understands “no/leave it” commands. He has not had any formal training yet but is very food motivated, well behaved and is a quick learner. He is also crate trained and sleeps inside in his crate overnight.

Due to his age, Zac is not yet desexed. We don’t have any details of his blood lines or parents. Zac does not have a roached back and is not displaying any indications of hip issues.

We are hoping to find an active and outgoing home for Zac where he can continue to receive the exercise and dog interaction he needs. If you are interested, please email Kristine at [email protected] or call 0438 280 035.

Did you know the origins of the Kong toy?

The amazing story behind the invention of the Kong toy begins with a devoted dog owner named Joe Markham. Over 40 years ago, Joe was faced with a challenge - his beloved German Shepherd named Fritz had a habit of biting on rocks and sticks, which had caused serious damage to his teeth. Determined to find a solution, Joe embarked on a mission to create a toy that would keep Fritz entertained and prevent him from damaging his teeth further.

One day, while working on his vehicle, Joe accidentally dropped an axle stop with an attached bracket on the ground. To his surprise, Fritz immediately grabbed hold of it and started playing with it joyfully. Seeing his dog's excitement, Joe couldn't help but be amused by the unexpected turn of events. He turned to his friend and proudly asked, "What do you think of my new dog toy?"

His friend, though not too impressed by its appearance, humorously remarked, "Actually, it's not too pretty. It looks like an earplug from King Kong." Little did they know, those words would mark the birth of the iconic Kong toy that we know today.

And so, thanks to Joe's creative thinking and his furry friend's enthusiasm, the Kong toy came into existence. It has since become a beloved and trusted companion for countless dogs, providing them with hours of entertainment and promoting healthy dental habits.

The much anticipated arrival of our dairy cow Hazel has just come to fruition. Lots of laughs as we learn how to milk her. 😅🤣 We were not planning on adopting a bull calf at the same time, but who could say no to this adorable little one.

Yesterday we learnt the hard way that catching a wild bee swarm should have been left to the experts. A few stings and 3 giggling girls chased up a hill by angry bees before they were captured and relocated to a safe home. 😅🤣

What are you feeding your dog?

Not being a qualified nutritionist and confirming there is no affiliation with any suppliers, but still wanting to share some valuable information, please see these ingredient lists from two well known products.

One is the Vet Prescribed Hills Science Diet. First ingredient is Corn Startch. The other is Meals for Mutts. First ingredient is Kangaroo.

Understanding that any brand of kibble has been heat treated and is highly processed, which one do you think should be "prescribed" and which one do you think should be avoided?

Our preference is to feed raw, but if you are feeding kibble, please check the ingredients.
