Hi all!
I'm doing a HUGE e-mail reply today. This time of year I am CRAZY-busy with stuff for my kids, and don't get as much spare time to actually reply to people.
I just wanted to remind people that we will not be expecting anymore kitten until Jan-Feb at the earliest. The weather has been a tad cool here of late, and no calling girls!
Anyway, just wanted to say sorry to all those I'm e-mailing - we get around 30-40 e-mail/Facebook enquiries a week, more around Christmas!
No we do not allow people who make enquiries to come visit our home to meet the cats - that would be over 100 people visiting each month. That has the potential to bring in so much disease, something we do not want in our home - remember our cats & kittens live in our home with us. Not to mention that we simply don't have the time.
We do allow people who are lucky enough to adopt a kitten from us to visit, once the kittens have had their first vaccination at 8 weeks of age though, should they choose to make the trek out to lil ol' Hamilton.
Also, we do not keep a waiting list for a few reasons:
1. When we did, some people who we thought were loyal, ended up deciding to buy elsewhere, and not let us know. In the mean time, we turned away many very suitable potential homes.
2. We might never breed the desired colour/sex kitten you want, and I would personally feel HORRIBLE! I don't enjoy letting people down.
3. We breed many different colours & sexes of kittens. If you are looking for a blue, we don't often breed many. There are breeders who breed nothing but blue, and you will likely have far less of a wait for a kitten from them.
4. We don't actually breed that many kittens. In 2015, we bred a total of 4 kittens, over 2 litters. In 2016, we will have bred 0 kittens. We hope to have more litters in 2017, but we are basically waiting until the Daniel Andrews government decides to do after their enquiry into the puppy-farm bill, with findings due to be released next month.
5. We don't want to force people to put down a deposit to join a waiting list. We only require non-refundable deposits on actual kittens who have been born, and not until they are 6-8 weeks of age, once we have decided who we wish to keep.
I hope this helps answer questions we are most often asked, in more detail.
