RIP Hagrid
27/11/2017-04/07/2025
Seven years, seven months, seven days old
Many of our followers and adopters would know our dear Hagrid. Hagrid sadly bloated (gastric dilation-volvulus) in early July and we made the difficult decision to euthanise him.
⭐⭐ We would love you to share your memories of Hagrid. Do you have photos of Hagrid with your Leema Rescue adoptee? Or did you just get to have a pat of this gentle giant when you picked up your pet? ⭐⭐

More about Hagrid...
While we got Hagrid as an 8 week old puppy, he had health problems from a young age which ultimately led to him having an unusual cycling gait.
However, in terms of temperament, Hagrid was great. He was good with other dogs. He had probably over 100 foster friends in his life. He enjoyed the company of greyhounds - even greyhounds who were supposed to be grumpy and nasty, Hagrid did fine with. There wasn't a single greyhound he didn't get along with. Any dog that didn't get along with Hagrid was a THEM issue, never a Hagrid issue. When dogs had a go at him, Hagrid would looked stunned, and then suggest that they made a mistake. Hagrid wasn't a smart dog, but he was nice.
For rescue dogs with separation anxiety and fence jumping habits, Hagrid would spend 24/7 with them, which helped to settle them until they found a permanent home. For rescue dogs who had some trepedition about meeting new people, Hagrid would meet potential adopters with them, helping the rescues see confidence.
One day, a litter of puppies escaped into the yard with Hagrid while I was at work. I came home to all being well, but I can imagine Hagrid being chewed and jungle-gymmed the whole day. And I can imagine he enjoyed it.
Over the last two years, when the lambs came, Hagrid got along with them too. Hagrid would sometimes spend time in the paddock with the sheep, seemingly just thinking them strange dog friends. We used to joke that the mice in the kennels would curl up in Hagrid's fur of a night time.
Hagrid was a good boy and he is sadly missed by people, dogs, and ovines left behind.
