Treason Foods Monk Fruit and Stevia
There's a lot of information here but worth the read.
Learn about Monk Fruit and what you can purchase.
Two weeks ago, we launched Sunshine Sugar – the only Australian-owned sugar brand left in the market. We also promised a natural zero-calorie: Monk Fruit extract.
Monk Fruit, also known as Swingle fruit, is a small round fruit that is native to southern China. It has been used for centuries in Eastern medicine as both a cold remedy and a digestive aid.
It is also gaining popularity as a zero-calorie sweetener in beverages, cooking and baking.
Most monk fruit extracts on the market are diluted with erythritol or allulose – mainly to cut costs, but also to reduce the intensity.
Treason Organic Monk Fruit (Luo Han Guo) extract does not compromise: it is made from 100% Monk Fruit plant which is grown and harvested in the Guilin Mountains of China. It is around 100-200X sweeter than sugar yet has zero calories and won’t have any effect on the body’s blood sugar levels making it also diabetic, keto and paleo friendly.
The 20g bottle of powdered Monk Fruit is equivalent to around 400 servings of sugar and includes a tiny 50mg measuring spoon allowing you to accurately sweeten your beverages, smoothies and baking mixes. You can use Monk Fruit to completely substitute or simply reduce sugar intake in a recipe.
Recommended usage guide 100 grams sugar = 20 servings (1 gram) of Treason, 1 cup/250ml maple syrup = 50 servings (2.5 grams) of Treason. Note - powder does not fill jar due to included measuring spoon.
Product of China, packaged in Australia.
The Treason 20g tub sells online for anywhere between $30 and $36 (not including shipment).
At Box Divvy, it’s available for $25. That works out to around 6c per equivalent serve of sugar (i.e. tsp). Not cheap but better than most sweeteners, and even the 20g tin will go a long way.
It also comes as a concentrated liquid with a droplet dispenser, which may be more convenient. It contains 170 serves; the recommended dose is 6 drops per serve, and sells for the same price as the powder ($25).
In addition to the Monk Fruit extract, Treason also produce a good quality Organic Stevia. Many stevia extracts are mainly Reb-A which tastes bitter and probably why you don't love stevia. Treason Stevia contains 95% Reb-M which has ZERO bitter taste.
Stevia is equivalent to around 400 servings of sugar and includes a tiny 50mg measuring spoon allowing you to accurately sweeten your beverages, smoothies and baking mixes.
You can use Stevia to completely substitute or simply reduce sugar intake in a recipe.
