There are lots of perks to owning Lipizzaners, but there are a couple that are not so well known that make life so much easier as a breeder!

1. They have shorter gestations. Several large studies in Europe have consistently found the gestation to be on average 333.5 days.

2. They consistently foal within a closer range to 333.5 days in producing that average than most other breeds.

Compare this to Thoroughbreds who average 342 days but could foal any time up to 3 weeks either side of that.

At 2:30am this morning, we welcomed this cute little fellow into the world!

Introducing Favory Mirabella by 257 Favory Pallavicina (Merlin). Foaled down here for Phoenix Park Lipizzaner Stud to give Gidrane's c**t a friend to grow up with after the loss of Harmonia.

We are proud to have bred a c**t by this top quality sire (owned by Georgiba Beard) and have enjoyed watching Pandur's progress from a young horse at Szilvasvarad through to everything he has achieved under Edit Kappel. What a photo!

His son, Pluto Harmonia (Petey) is now a yearling and will be re-offered to the Australian market after Christmas.

By the light of a full moon, we welcomed Siglavy Gidrane into the world in the wee hours of the morning.

Everything looking good for mum and her c**t...he was on his feet in 15 minutes!

The mare is super foal proud so might look a bit grotty for a bit yet...

For some reason, we can't seem to capture the "land whale" factor in photos, but Gidrane has entered the foaling paddock and in true Halado Park fashion, is on schedule to foal during a planned birthday get together on the weekend.

Gidrane is on loan from Phoenix Park Lipizzaner Stud and is in foal to Siglavy Bekescsaba.

I got cuddles with Blinky today!!!! 😍

Blinky is Halado Warlock, by Halado Werdun (Titan) out of Alice Magic (TB) and I forgot just how much annoying blowfly factor was produced with those matings! 🤣🤣🤣 And it just...doesn't....stop....🤣🤣🤣

Even though it doesn't happen often, I've always enjoyed being present for vet/farrier collaborations because there is so much information being shared. Farriers really appreciate the trust of both owners and vets when they get that extra information and support to help them do their jobs better for some of these extreme cases. And as mentioned in the video, there is only so much a vet can do before a farrier is needed for the speciality hoof work.

Dire... this is one of our hay paddocks. We NEED at least 10mm in the next couple of days to be able to cut this.

It's the calm before the storm with preparations for breeding season and planning underway.

Our only foal due this year is still 6 weeks away.

For our preferred late October/early November foalings, we won't be inseminating for a while yet, but that doesn't mean we won't be getting stuff done! Ischia had some problems last season and finished the season empty so we'll be working on her early to give her the best chance of success. Bonadea will also be put back to Valour in hope of a filly to help boost the Presciana line in Australia.

The breeding phantom will be getting a makeover after some over-enthusiastic efforts last season completely shredded the last bit of life out of it.

Max and Petey came in today for a wormer, hoof trimming and a little handling. They are both still for sale, but we understand the difficulties that everyone is facing right now and aren't openly advertising for now. Once they've shed their winter coats, we'll start promoting them publicly again.

Siglavy Bekescsaba continues to stand at stud for the 2024 season, available fresh and chilled.

In the meantime, please send us vibes for a good 20-30mm of rain in the next week to get our hay across the line for baling. The next year is looking dire indeed for hay...

Vale Harmonia
2015-2024

It is with the deepest regret that we share the loss of our foundation mare, Harmonia yesterday morning due to a catastrophic colic.

At 7am (after being okay an hour before), she began to colic severely. With our nearest surgical facility an hour and a half away by float, and the speed and severity with which she declined, we didn't have a chance. In less than 2 hours from onset, we lost her.

She leaves a big hole in our herd being a quality young mare with a big personality, and her loss is a tragedy as much for the Australian breeding population as for us.

Her line will continue through the 2yo filly Gisella (S. Bekescsaba) and the weanling IFS c**t Pluto Harmonia (Pandur ###IV-1).

We would prefer no phone calls at this time.

A big day today as we head to Grand Cru Estate for their grand (re)opening!

We'll be doing ridden demos through the day, Barossa Carriages giving carriage rides, and there'll be some dressing up for a couple of photo shoots too!
