Alex hormonzi would say why wait until the new year for new me and opportunity why not start now, today! So in light of many goals I have set for the year 2025 I have one main objective for a lifetime that is to invest in my education and skills around horses (plus outside of horse life subjects such as psychology, nutrition, recovery, emotionally focused therapies and spirituality). Here’s to the year of investing in self and focusing on the long term!

So I have paid for lifetime access to TRT Method whom I aspire to live a lifestyle as he and help as many riders and horses as he has in my own unique ways! Start now, do as Nike would say and just do it! The universe will align for you when the timing is right and it will be an experience like Mario cart rainbow road the doors will open so quick that you’ll wonder where the year went for good reasons!

Nothing’s foolproof

BUT

If you care to look, your horse can give you pretty clear indication on how they feel about things, and this feeling can show you if your horse is ready for ‘the next step’

I just watched a video of a horse being terrorised by someone flinging the lead rope at it in a ‘desensitisation’ exercise.

The horse was fearful and running backwards

The thing is, he was wearing a saddle.

If your horse can’t handle a rope being flung around it, it has no business wearing a saddle.

Build confidence by building the steps.

This is wonderful! I hope to aspire to join the greats and perform at some great places like equitana! I’m slowly but surely making my way . Why I wanted to share this post is because at the end beck says “stress is apart of life, it’s important to teach resilience “ and she acknowledges the horses stress signals . I found this interesting because I have (before I read that) been battling with stress in horses and only ever saw it as bad, (yes I know we should avoid viewing things as good and bad) and was unsure how to move past this in an ethical way since I grew up pushing horses and though they were very very obedient they were stressed and unhappy majority of the time, given I was a child with no guidance until the age of 20 when I became a young adult attending some clinics on my self taught horse marzy. Because I had done so much damage to myself on many levels and horses on many levels I had swung the total opposite way for a while there a few years back to being so soft monster would run me around and I felt powerless. Now I am empowered and reading these posts help me shape how to get past problems. Something clicked for me when I read that last part ; stress is apart of life we have to learn how to better cope with it, I try my hardest not to inflict pain and suffering = stress onto my horses and horses I train but sometimes we have to put them through stress like we feel deal and heal with our stress, this is done with preparation and is also done for preparation for highly intensive stress like an emergency, we teach horses healthier coping and resilience to deal with stress ; we after all live in human society far from horses natural wild worlds so the better we set them up the better they can deal with the stress our world inflicts on them while also showing them that we wouldn’t put them through stress for no reason this too builds trust in our relationship. I hope this helps someone !

The Saturday entertainment at Equitana and the theme of mentors made me think about my own journey. I have had the pleasure of many great trainers who have shaped my thoughts and training. Below is my gorgeous P.R.E stallion (imported from Australia) performing with me at Equifest in New Zealand. It was a big crowd that night, the ride we planned and the ride we had weren’t the same. We can only ever ride the horse under us, the expectations have to fly out the window when the horse isn’t coping. He was generous in what he allowed me to do that night and I know it. He attended Melbourne Equitana as a young horse for a display also!
This horse has given me so much and now he’s retired I have nothing but gratitude for his presence in my life.

The photo below is a planned rear but I also see the tension in his face. Stress is a natural part of life for both horses and humans, teaching resilience is important. A balance needs to be struck.
