Salubrious birthday moment! Kiara turned 21 two weeks ago on Tuesday 22nd October. To be fair she was on holidays so we kind of missed it. So here it is. The big 21st birthday party. A Ferrero Rocher birthday cake. Happy Birthday Kiara! Kiara has been with us here at Ryans for three years and Ryans would nearly stop without her. Kiara is different. Kiara is good. At her last Dressage outing at Alexander Park Championships which was just before her birthday, she was the Advanced Young Rider Champion and Reserve Champion Open Advanced rider. Her mum cried a lot. Very funny and very nice.

Regardez Moi died today, Monday 28th October 2024.

It was 2pm and it was warmish, 28 degrees celsius. A light sea breeze with shades of coolness ruffled across the Heatherbrae countryside.

Regardez Moi was born on 18th June 1996 - he was 28 years, 4 months and 10 days old.

For me he was everything - such a legend.

He won more than 40 Grand Prix starts. On three occasions he was the Australian Grand Prix Champion.

Regardez Moi represented Australia in 2009 at the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas, USA. It seems a life time ago that Regardez Moi and I would charge into the arena to the roar of spectators who were packed to the ceiling. Not even any standing room available! The crowd loved Regardez Moi and would start clapping before he even entered the arena. He was like a rock star and I didn’t think the times would ever end. Regardez Moi rocked from Queensland to the Sydney CDI and down to the Melbourne Internationals. Regardez Moi won the Equitana Freestyle on five different occasions.

He was iconic.

As a sire, Regardez Moi was prolific and has sired subsequent Australian Grand Prix Dressage Champions as well as International Eventers up to and including 5* level.

Regardez Moi was always a Gentleman. He was bred by Dr Margaret Evans. When Margaret died she gifted Regardez Moi to Rozzie and I in her will. Margaret loved Regardez Moi and was responsible for choosing his name.

Bree Tillitzki would cool Regardez Moi down every day after he had finished working with me. Bree started cooling Regardez Moi down when she was 12 years of age. This lasted for over 10 years and reached across the world to Las Vegas where Bree turned 18. Bree went to every competition which Regardez Moi went to all over Australia and all over the world.

In the photo you can see Rozzie and I in front of a painting of Jive Magic and Regardez Moi. We are holding a plait from Regardez Moi’s tail.

The painting was done by Aaron Kinnane who is now a recognised artist in the Newcastle region. Aaron was a working pupil at Ryan’s back in the day when he was just 17 years of age.

Regardez Moi touched the souls of many people and for me was the highlight of my life. All around me Regardez Moi lives on and I was the luckiest person in the world.

I see you and love you Regardez Moi.

It’s 11:30pm Sunday 27th of October. We have just finished the Albury ODE. We loaded the horses and started the truck up around 6pm Sunday afternoon ready to start the trip home. The gears in the truck had completely seized up. Oh my goodness! We have sort of blown up the gear box on the Mack truck, it was in the column actually. Anyway we got this guy Aiden from CMV truck and bus mechanics from Albury and he was a complete genius he completely took the column apart, rejigged the whole thing and cleaned it all up. It took him 5 hours but he did it on a Sunday night! This photo through the front windscreen of the truck shows us flying home at 11:30pm, we have 8 hours in front of us and I am about to overtake the truck you can see in front of me in the photo.

5.30pm Sunday 27th afternoon.

We are at Albury Wodonga Equestrian Centre. We have just competed in the ODE and should now be howling up the highway heading for home. Nope. I think we have blown a gearbox. Says me who could not change a spark plug.

Anyway the truck flew down here on Friday night but on starting up to head home this afternoon the only gear I can engage is 3rd . I am supposed to have eight gears plus reverse.

So we have now unloaded our five horses, put them in stables, watered them and rationed out our remaining feed leftovers from the weekend. We have an after hours mechanic from CMV Truck and Bus coming out who seems really nice but not hopeful he can help. Action is realistically only likely to happen tomorrow. Arrrrrgg !

The guys at home are on standby to bring cars and floats down to collect us in the morning. This will be an interesting enough chapter in years to come but nothing but a right royal inconvenience right this moment.

9pm Friday night 25th October 2024. We are loading for a 9 hour overnight nightmare trip to Albury One Day Event. We reckon we will get there at 5:30am Saturday morning.

We are about to load 5 horses and the first horse on is Bobby Dazzler owned by Michael Chamberlain. Bobby is in the 4* class. Holding Bobby is Tiani Stewart and she is also in the 4* class on her legend the 20yo Jeblues.

Also in the photo is Jonny Simpson who has been coming to these shows with us since he was 10 years old, so that is for the last 7 years. Jonny lives next door and is part of the family. Here we go for this marathon trip which we embark on every year. Now this is the definition of crazy!

This is Rozzie and Bronze Boy R at the 2024 Saddlefitter Brisbane CDI 12-15 September. Bronze Boy R or Bucky as he is known in the stables, is by Byalee Briar out of Red Legs R (Regardez Moi). Bucky was bred at Ryans and has been my special horse since he was a foal.

This video was put together by Unicorn Video Productions and gifted to Rozzie by Mary. Thank you very much.

Bucky was until recently my 4* Eventer and he has won a 4* event. Whilst competing eventing I did realise he was a talented dressage horse and kept the dressage discipline developing simultaneously. I did campaign him in the CDI3* Grand Prix class at Dressage by the Sea at Willinga Park 22-25 February 2024. Bucky went fabulously well but I as a rider was awful and made two course errors in the Grand Prix Special which resulted in elimination. Idiot! Anyway, Bucky made it very clear how talented he was and compatible with Grand Prix he is, and I got sacked. I am not quite sure how that works but that is what happened and somehow he is now Rozzie’s horse!

Rozzie and Bucky are now seriously on the International Big Tour circuit and improving like mad. It will be fascinating to see where this goes.

Alcheringa Apollo
DOB: 23/09/2020
Brown 16hh gelding
Sire: Glen Lee Rivoli Teak
Dam: Alcheringa Luna

Apollo is a beautiful and very quiet 4 year old Australian Stock Horse gelding. He has 3 really nice paces and a beautiful way of going with a steady head carriage. Apollo is super quiet and could be ridden by an experienced rider or someone who has lesser experience. Apollo is beautifully bred being by Glen Lee Rivoli Teak. Apollo has wonderful conformation and has a future in the show ring or the dressage arena. This line of horse is also well known for jumping and we also think Apollo is going to jump really well.

Yeehaa! First foal of the season at Ryan’s. What a cracker. Chestnut filly foal by Questing R (Quarterback x Brentano 2) out of our MSJ Nemo x Negro x Starnberg mare, Nasturtium R. We were hanging out for a filly. We have had two c**ts from this mare previously. Both c**ts were by Questing R and were sold within three weeks of being born and their owners are hoping for big things from them. I so wanted a filly from this cross, Questing R x Nasturtium R. Definitely a keeper keeper! Oh dear…another horse not for sale….

***SOLD WITHIN 6 HOURS***

Spectacular client Totilas x Sir Donnerhall mare about to foal to Bluefields Dankeschoen (Desperados FRH x Florencio).

In the photo Tiffany is still in her winter woolies and is due to foal in 8 weeks time. Super duper exciting. Tiffany unexpectedly needs a new home and we will be very sad to see her go. Tiffany stands at 17hh and was born on 20th January 2015.

Tiffany has already had a stunning c**t foal to Questing R (Quarterback x Brentano II).

This has to be a very rare fast track entry into the top current Olympic bloodlines. Tiffany is related to the Paris Individual Olympic Gold Medallist, TSF Dalera BB. Tiffany is related to the Paris Individual Olympic Silver Medallist, Wendy de Fontaine. Tiffany's due foal is distantly related to the Paris Individual Olympic Bronze Medallist, Glamourdale. We think no other horse in the world can claim being a relative of all three Paris Individual Dressage medallists!!

The stud season is about to start again! Oh my goodness it is so much work. Below are our stallions and they are to die for. We also have a couple of unannounced baby stallions sitting in the wings which we are breaking in at the moment and may or may not make available this upcoming season. Tiani who is in charge of all things stud at Ryans is dreading the start of the stud work! You can see Tiani in the saddle on Coolness R in the photo below. We had 18 foals last season and Tiani still has two more foals to come in and get weaned before the first foals of this season are due. We have never had such exciting foals hit the ground from last season and this season is going to be even bigger and better. The first foal due on 5th September 2024 is from Nasturtium R, our MSJ Nemo mare (Negro x Don Schufro). Nasturtium R who in turn is out of our Starnberg mare, Sunflower R (Sir Donnerhall x Regardez Moi). Nasturtium R is expecting a Questing R (Quarterback x Brentano 2) foal who we are praying is going to be a filly. We have had two stunning Questing R c**ts from Nasturtium R in the last two seasons who seem to get sold before they are two weeks old! They are completely stunning. If I get a filly this year, it is not for sale! I hate selling my foals, my mares or any of my horses. I am going to die broke!

***SOLD WITHIN 4 HOURS OF POSTING***

Much loved Old International 7 Horse truck.

180hp. I think a 1989 model. Virtually new reconditioned UD motor with turbo charge. Has done a couple hundred kilometres only. Perfect working order.

I paid $18,000.00 for this motor.

Truck has 6 really good tyres and a brand new spare tyre.

The hydraulic on the tailgate in perfect working order and goes up and down.

Truck not registered due to some rust in cab and body.

Truck needs 2 new batteries and it would go to Perth and back!

This truck has been all over Australia and has lots of sentimental value.

$4,000.00 or nearest offer.

Just testing out our fire effects before Dad’s funeral at 2pm. Lots of smoke coming out of the indoor school and then guess what! The NSW Rural fire service turned up. The guy stepped out and I said ‘um do we have a problem?’ There was smoke everywhere and my eyes were watering. The guy took a deep breath and said ‘do you know who I am?’ I was kind of digging in thinking this is going to be the biggest disaster ever and then I recognised the face. David Allan who lived across the road from us at Black Hill and as kids we would rabbit trap and shoot ducks and pick blackberries and ride our horses all over their dairy farm. Dad would drive the four in hand horses up into the top of their quarries and they were the best neighbours anybody could have grown up with. I haven’t seen David for 30 years! David thought this was all very very funny and so did I in the end.

Dad's funeral is on tomorrow, Monday 6th May starting at 2pm AEST. Of course all friends and family are very welcome. Just a quick note to those who are connected and cannot make it that livestreaming is going to be available via our page tomorrow. This sort of thing is way beyond me but apparently today it is not so uncommon.

The photograph below is the team of amazing volunteers that have pressure cleaned the indoor school, painted the kickboards, constructed the podium from pallets and old damaged kickboards and then painted the podium white, produced six amazing fire pits, 20 oil based flares, a monster screen which you can see being installed in the photo, trees from the Black Hill bush which is where Dad and Mum would train their four in hand harness horses, and James setting up the sound system that would do a rock'n'roll band proud. Believe it or not, one side of the Ryan Family is actually musical and will be performing. Hopefully all of this will come together in a performance that will make Dad proud.

Anyway, just remember that everyone is welcome.

Cheers

Vale Jarrah R

My lovely friend Jarrah has passed away. I couldn’t have asked for a more gentle, generous, kind and enthusiastic horse. His work ethic and intelligence was second to none.

Huge thanks to Jonah and Edna Bevan who gave me the opportunity to form this partnership. We did 29 CDIs together with wins including a Pacific League World Cup Final.

He always gave it his best shot. What more can you ask for.

Thank you so much Charlotte Lassetter for loving him and taking such good care of him in England. He loved his field and his girlfriend Dea whose owner, Julia Walker also doted on and looked after Jarrah. Poor Char was hoping to go to Hickstead next week with the Jazzman and had also hoped to give him a wonderful retirement. It was not meant to be.

He led a good life and was very valued (a little bit spoilt as he deserved) and much loved.

Thank you and Rest in Peace Jarrah R.

Rozzie
