7am Sunday morning 12th January 2025. This is our first dressage outing for the year at Alexander Park with the Hunter Valley Dressage Association. The temperature is 24 degrees Celsius and we had to shoo off a mob of 30 kangaroos when we pulled up here. Baby horses everywhere. New staff members having their first dressage outing with Ryan’s. How good is this!? What a privilege to be part of the equestrian scene in Australia.

Merry Christmas everyone !! Rozzie calls this the lonely Christmas. Rozzie has been cooking for days. Here we go! 6am and it is staff who have to stay and feed 200 horses and muck out and by 7am survive a staff riding lesson with me yelling at them. Then back to mucking out, supervising mares going to stud, we have one mare threatening to foal and then a champagne breakfast at 11am. Seafood at 1pm and then turkey, ham and plum pudding with threepences starting around 3pm with a crowd of around 17 other lonely people. Lots of drinks. Then I push the kids out to do evening feeds whilst I collapse! Merry Christmas everyone. Heath.

Dashing R is so much power. Dashing R is very quiet. Dashing R is so bred to be so good. Dashing R is part of the Drumming R dynasty which puts the best Grand Prix bloodlines in the world together in De Niro and Totilas. It is our opinion that this particular bloodline has the potential to produce piaffe and passage with the best in the world. So here we are not talking about just going Grand Prix, but having extra fire power in the piaffe and passage up your sleeve which will challenge internationally in top championship classes like World Championships and Olympic Games. Extreme piaffe and passage talent is pretty much impossible to assess in young horses except their genetics are as good as an indication you can get. Nevertheless, just watching the video you can see extreme power in this baby filly. The mother of Dashing R is Random R and her full brother, Revelry R was ridden by Faye Hinchliffe a couple of weeks ago at the 2024 Victorian Dressage Festival. Revelry R was Reserve Medium Tour Champion and we are so proud of him and Faye. Random R is also the mother of Nannygai R. Nannygai R is just 7 years of age and is already competing Prix St George and Intermediate 1 level dressage with John Bird in the saddle. Dashing R is a beautiful beautiful filly, the only filly we are offering in the Christmas sale and is the only Drumming R foal being offered. We are so excited as the Drumming R influence starts to make its way through our breeding program. Super duper piaffe and passage beyond beyond here we come!

This is one for the eventers. A very special one. Cool Cat R is a chestnut c**t with a white blaze and two white hind socks. Cool Cat R carries quite a bit of thoroughbred blood and yet is very purpose eventing bred at the very top of the Olympics and the World Championships. Cool Cat R is by our Chilli Morning stallion, Coolness R. Chilli Morning is the only stallion to win Badminton Three Day Event and was ridden by William Fox-Pitt. The great grand-dam of Cool Cat R is by Jaguar Mail who was himself an Olympic Show Jumper at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Jaguar Mail then went on to be the most amazing eventing sire and was the sire of Vassily de Lassos who was ridden by Andrew Hoy at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics for an Individual Bronze Medal and a Team Silver Medal. Vassily de Lassos at the time was considered the best eventer in the world. Interestingly Jaguar Mail is half thoroughbred. Coolness R who stands here at Ryans, is a young stallion who we are preparing to go out and compete in the eventing discipline. Coolness R is extraordinarily careful over fences. Coolness R has magnificent movement on the flat. We think Coolness R is part of the future. So Cool Cat R is amongst the first of the Coolness R foals to start this dynasty. We do have the first Coolness R filly being broken in right now and she is so quiet and we are really excited.

Cool Cat R does have exceptional movement. Cool Cat R right from the start has been extraordinarily brave and adventurous. Quite remarkable. Cool Cat R is a sensational blend of genetics which is more and more going to be part of Olympics and World Championships results. In a way this is very sad for Australia who has so much depth in pure thoroughbreds and I grew up on thoroughbreds and loved them. But there it is. The future is changing and it is our opinion Cool Cat R is right on the money.

Well at the 2024 Australian Dressage Championships, Robbie McKinnon rode SPH Fortino who is also by Bluefields Floreno. 🎄First Time - Ryan's Christmas Foal Sale 🎄

The following four foals have never been seen by anyone other than Ryans. Here comes the new storm for the not too distant future. For me (Heath), these new foals make my heart sing. For me, watching them play in the paddocks and hugging their mums sends flashes of dreams and futures through my mind that are just finding their legs before they go in search of a future which I hope will turn them into legends of the world. I love this moment of the year and it gives me goosebumps.

So, there are four foals here which we will keep here at Ryans until they are weaned without any ongoing costs other than the purchase price to the new buyers. Vet bills will need to be paid by the new owner but there should be none.

So, there are four foals here. Two are by BML Totality and they are so beautiful, so flashy and so exciting. They are called Tim Tam R and Toblerone R. BML Totality who is by the legend Totilas himself, is scheduled for his first Grand Prix dressage start this coming year, 2025.

One foal is by Drumming R. She is called Dashing R. The Drumming R foals are really quiet and have to be nearly the best bloodlines in the world combining De Niro and Totilas. This particular foal is out of a mare who has a full brother, Revelry R ridden by Faye Hinchliffe who recently competed at the 2024 Victorian Dressage Festival becoming Reserve Medium Tour Champion. Just brilliant. Random R is the dam of Nannygai R who is already competing Prix St George/Intermediate 1 level dressage at just 7 years of age! Nannygai R is being ridden by an eventing legend from back in the day, John Bird!! So much dressage performance in these genetics.

And of course for the eventers we have Cool Cat R. This foal is by our Chilli Morning stallion, Coolness R. 7 year old Arabian mare who is a qualified endurance horse. Zia was broken in as a 5 year old and ridden by her owner for a year. Zia has a lovely temperament, is very people friendly and food oriented. Zia has good ground manners and is easy to catch, shoe and float. Zia is good with other horses.

Zia has had 5 weeks schooling at Ryan's and is showing signs of talent for dressage. She is also a really beautiful type and would do well in the show ring.

Twilight R is an exquisite filly who is an outstanding character in the paddock. She is particularly confident and will seek out other fillies on the other side of the paddock to play with. When people are in the paddock with this group of mares Twilight R is very noticeable because she is so curious and brave and does want to inspect everyone. She is quite the character. Twilight R has spectacular movement and is also a very refined and elegant individual. Twilight R as well as being very pretty, she has very correct conformation and does look like a baby ballerina.

Twilight R comes from genetic families on both her sire’s side and her dam’s side which represent the best there has ever been. We are very proud of Twilight R and are hoping that she will find someone special with dreams that will reach around the world.

Regardez Moi and I wish everyone at Equitana lots and lots of luck!

Equitana starts tomorrow Thursday 14th November 2024. Regardez Moi has two sons competing at 2024 Equitana in BZ Rafael and Ronan R. He also has a Grandson in Bronze Boy R.

This was a happy hunting ground for Regardez Moi and me who did win five Equitana freestyles. This was so much fun and the crowds were so enthusiastic and supportive! Regardez Moi passed away on 28th October 2024 at the grand old age of 28. The memories are like yesterday. Equitana was special for Regardez Moi and myself!

Salubrious birthday moment! Kiara turned 21 two weeks ago on Tuesday 22nd October. To be fair she was on holidays so we kind of missed it. So here it is. The big 21st birthday party. A Ferrero Rocher birthday cake. Happy Birthday Kiara! Kiara has been with us here at Ryans for three years and Ryans would nearly stop without her. Kiara is different. Kiara is good. At her last Dressage outing at Alexander Park Championships which was just before her birthday, she was the Advanced Young Rider Champion and Reserve Champion Open Advanced rider. Her mum cried a lot. Very funny and very nice.

Regardez Moi died today, Monday 28th October 2024.

It was 2pm and it was warmish, 28 degrees celsius. A light sea breeze with shades of coolness ruffled across the Heatherbrae countryside.

Regardez Moi was born on 18th June 1996 - he was 28 years, 4 months and 10 days old.

For me he was everything - such a legend.

He won more than 40 Grand Prix starts. On three occasions he was the Australian Grand Prix Champion. 

Regardez Moi represented Australia in 2009 at the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas, USA. It seems a life time ago that Regardez Moi and I would charge into the arena to the roar of spectators who were packed to the ceiling. Not even any standing room available! The crowd loved Regardez Moi and would start clapping before he even entered the arena. He was like a rock star and I didn’t think the times would ever end. Regardez Moi rocked from Queensland to the Sydney CDI and down to the Melbourne Internationals. Regardez Moi won the Equitana Freestyle on five different occasions.

He was iconic.

As a sire, Regardez Moi was prolific and has sired subsequent Australian Grand Prix Dressage Champions as well as International Eventers up to and including 5* level.

Regardez Moi was always a Gentleman. He was bred by Dr Margaret Evans. When Margaret died she gifted Regardez Moi to Rozzie and I in her will. Margaret loved Regardez Moi and was responsible for choosing his name.

Bree Tillitzki would cool Regardez Moi down every day after he had finished working with me. Bree started cooling Regardez Moi down when she was 12 years of age. This lasted for over 10 years and reached across the world to Las Vegas where Bree turned 18. Bree went to every competition which Regardez Moi went to all over Australia and all over the world.

The painting was done by Aaron Kinnane who is now a recognised artist in the Newcastle region. Aaron was a working pupil at Ryan’s back in the day when he was just 17 years of age.

Regardez Moi touched the souls of many people and for me was the highlight of my life. All around me Regardez Moi lives on and I was the luckiest person in the world.

It’s 11:30pm Sunday 27th of October. We have just finished the Albury ODE. We loaded the horses and started the truck up around 6pm Sunday afternoon ready to start the trip home. The gears in the truck had completely seized up. Oh my goodness! We have sort of blown up the gear box on the Mack truck, it was in the column actually. Anyway we got this guy Aiden from CMV truck and bus mechanics from Albury and he was a complete genius he completely took the column apart, rejigged the whole thing and cleaned it all up. It took him 5 hours but he did it on a Sunday night! This photo through the front windscreen of the truck shows us flying home at 11:30pm, we have 8 hours in front of us and I am about to overtake the truck you can see in front of me in the photo.

5.30pm Sunday 27th afternoon.

We are at Albury Wodonga Equestrian Centre. We have just competed in the ODE and should now be howling up the highway heading for home. Nope. I think we have blown a gearbox. Says me who could not change a spark plug.

Anyway the truck flew down here on Friday night but on starting up to head home this afternoon the only gear I can engage is 3rd . I am supposed to have eight gears plus reverse.

So we have now unloaded our five horses, put them in stables, watered them and rationed out our remaining feed leftovers from the weekend. We have an after hours mechanic from CMV Truck and Bus coming out who seems really nice but not hopeful he can help. Action is realistically only likely to happen tomorrow. Arrrrrgg !

The guys at home are on standby to bring cars and floats down to collect us in the morning. This will be an interesting enough chapter in years to come but nothing but a right royal inconvenience right this moment.

9pm Friday night 25th October 2024. We are loading for a 9 hour overnight nightmare trip to Albury One Day Event. We reckon we will get there at 5:30am Saturday morning.

We are about to load 5 horses and the first horse on is Bobby Dazzler owned by Michael Chamberlain. Bobby is in the 4* class. Holding Bobby is Tiani Stewart and she is also in the 4* class on her legend the 20yo Jeblues.

Also in the photo is Jonny Simpson who has been coming to these shows with us since he was 10 years old, so that is for the last 7 years. Jonny lives next door and is part of the family. Here we go for this marathon trip which we embark on every year. Now this is the definition of crazy!

This is Rozzie and Bronze Boy R at the 2024 Saddlefitter Brisbane CDI 12-15 September. Bronze Boy R or Bucky as he is known in the stables, is by Byalee Briar out of Red Legs R (Regardez Moi). Bucky was bred at Ryans and has been my special horse since he was a foal.

This video was put together by Unicorn Video Productions and gifted to Rozzie by Mary. Thank you very much.

Bucky was until recently my 4* Eventer and he has won a 4* event. Whilst competing eventing I did realise he was a talented dressage horse and kept the dressage discipline developing simultaneously. I did campaign him in the CDI3* Grand Prix class at Dressage by the Sea at Willinga Park 22-25 February 2024. Bucky went fabulously well but I as a rider was awful and made two course errors in the Grand Prix Special which resulted in elimination. Idiot! Anyway, Bucky made it very clear how talented he was and compatible with Grand Prix he is, and I got sacked. I am not quite sure how that works but that is what happened and somehow he is now Rozzie’s horse!

Rozzie and Bucky are now seriously on the International Big Tour circuit and improving like mad. It will be fascinating to see where this goes.

Apollo is a beautiful and very quiet 4 year old Australian Stock Horse gelding. He has 3 really nice paces and a beautiful way of going with a steady head carriage. Apollo is super quiet and could be ridden by an experienced rider or someone who has lesser experience. Apollo is beautifully bred being by Glen Lee Rivoli Teak. Apollo has wonderful conformation and has a future in the show ring or the dressage arena. This line of horse is also well known for jumping and we also think Apollo is going to jump really well.
