Body Confidence 🐕💪
Body confidence is an amazing way to exercise your dogs while building valuable skills! Here are 3:
1. Building self confidence & self awareness
Body confidence lets your dog become aware of where they are in space, and how to better manoeuvre their bodies. This is a great way to build self-awareness as well as self-confidence, especially in young or nervous dogs.
2. Preventing injury
If your dog is aware of how they are moving, in addition to building strength in functional movement, they are better able to protect their bodies as they move and prevent injury. This is perfect for puppies, older, active, or accident-prone dogs 😂
3. Building your bond
Working with your dog with fun, motivating and functional activities helps build your bond and lets you learn how to move together.

Introducing dogs to new or novel objects, (like this small skateboard), in a controlled, fun and positive manner can help them become confident in their surroundings and themselves.
Working on activities like this, where there’s no real pressure for the dog to master the skill, helps build trust and strengthen your relationship with your dog.

Long lines are a great tool to help your dog practice skills in challenging environments in safe ways, see here Tess the Labrador practicing recall on a long line at the the beach! ☀️🏖️
Using a long line when taking your dog new and exciting places gives you the opportunity to practice reliable recalls and loose leash walking skills. Especially while the dog is young or still mastering these skills.

SOME CONSIDERATIONS WHILST WORKING ON LEASH SKILLS WITH YOUR DOG:
- Use a longer lead to provide you dog with more liberty of movement (most dogs just walk faster than people and want to be able to sniff ahead of you)
- Set your dog and yourself up to succeed in a low distraction environment
- Reinforce any automatic check-ins ins (when the dog looks back at you)
- Keep your walk positive
- Have high value reinforcement (find what is reinforcing for your dog)
