Young Standard Spangled C**kerel hatched January this year. (he is going through the ugly stage)

I haven't post my project birds for a while, so here's an update.
Standard Jubilee's are coming along slowly.
Last season I bred them back to Buff.
Type has impove dramatically so sibling mating is required next which I will need to breed plenty to get the correct colour I'm looking for.
Bantams are not to bad type is pretty good colour is getting there as well.

The Diamond Jubilee Orpington owed its name to the date of its first public appearance - 1897 - the Diamond Jubilee year of Queen Victoria. It obtained a certain vogue as a farmer's fowl with its red/chocolate ground colour and its black and white markings 'but the rise of a similar coloured Sussex fowl sapped its popularity, the Variety Orpington Club adopted it in 1903 until the Jubilee Orpington Club was formed in 1908.
The Spangled Orpington was introduced in 1900. It was possibly 1902 before it was first shown, but until 1905 little was known of it and it was practically in the sole hands of the originators. At the variety Club first show, held in conjunction with the Grand International at Sheffield in 1904, there were 14 entries in two classes all from the same source, while at the second show at Alexandra Palace in 1905, there were 13 entries but only one other than from William Cook and sons.
As in the United Kingdom both the Jubilee and Spangled Orpington fell out of favour with breeders and eventually over time disappeared from the poultry landscape in Australia entirely.
Given that both of these varieties of Orpington were introduced during the early evolution of whites and cuckoos and predated the advent of the blues and reds it only felt right that these varieties should be preserved and part of the Orpington future in Australia.
A seven year project in selecting and breeding multiple lines of birds selected on type and colour has led to a line of Spangled Orpingtons that not only represent the standard for this particular variety but also breed true.
The Spangled bantam pair offered this Sunday 19th June in Dubbo at the Orpington National Premier Sale are the first and only release of this variety at this stage from our breeding program and represent sound birds for a select breeder to work with this variety.

The 2 Spangled's offered are an unrelated pair they are being offered separately to give someone else an opportunity to outcross to Black giving you 100% Splits, then sibling mating is required giving you
25% Spangled
50% Splits
25% do not carry Spangled
OR
they can be mated together.

I'm happy with these 3 Rosecomb C**kerels they are definitely keepers, bred late in the season.They won't make any shows...

We have been making stands for quite sometime for our poultry more so now with all the rain around just to get them off the ground.
I fine Orpingtons are the worse breed to roost (they love roosting on the ground).
We found this is the cheapest way as you can pickup free pine pallets if you look around even off cuts to make the legs.
The legs are around 25 to 30cm in length as Orpingtons are a heavy breed you don't want them to high, I do make the Bantam Orpingtons a little bit higher.
If you prefer wide gaps for them just take a board out in-between
