I can’t take credit for how these guys were bred, but not only is it the breeding, it’s the training, raising and exposure that also make these guys the absolute best dogs 😍
Well bred dogs from amazing breeders have everything started for you from the day they come home to be successful, loving companions BUT it’s up to you to continue and build on that! A well bred dog is easily ruined in the wrong hands.
You cannot expect to pick up your puppy from your breeder and have a perfect puppy. You need to put in the time to learn about how to care for your new puppy, what training they need, what socialisation really is BEFORE you bring them home.
Also ensure to ask the breeder LOTS of questions before you commit to a pup.. not just because they are cute and you wanted a puppy!
Questions like
- are you registered with ANKC
- can you provide health clearances
- how long have you been breeding
- whats the history of the lines, where are they from
- how many litters has the mum had
- how many litters have they raised
- what are their past pups doing now (sporting, working, assistance, therapy, companion etc)
- do they do ENS & ESI
- what enrichment do they give their pups while growing
- what they are fed
- do both parents have FULL health & dna clearances (do your research on the breed beforehand as Alot of breeders can be very persuasive that their breeding stock is tested but if you ask about certain things they know you have done your research and you will know by their response if they have done it.
- go and see the pups before you commit
- dont just pick the prettiest or the one that cane to you.. if the breeder doesnt help you pick one suited (or completely pick one for your lifestyle) find another breeder. So many people are stuck on the idea that “my puppy picks me” and in some cases that may work out for you, but educated breeders will have a pup or 2 in mind that wouldd be best suited to your application details.
They unfortunately dont come already trained so put the effort in and you will get the best out of them 🙏
I could go on and on but do yourself a favour and when you go to get a pup, take your time, ask questions and pick the right breeder for you, and if you have to wait for a pup, TRUST ME it’s 100% worth it!
