🏆 Understanding Breed Standards – What Judges See on the Day
Every breed has a rulebook — otherwise known as a Breed Standard — the guide that tells us what the perfect Siamese or Oriental should look like. ✨
When a cat steps onto the judging table, the judge is comparing what they see on the day to that ideal standard — not to the other cats, but to the written description of perfection for that breed.
✨ Here’s what they’re really looking for:
🐾 Type – How well the cat matches the breed’s blueprint. For Siamese and Orientals, that’s a long, elegant body, wedge-shaped head, fine bone, and those iconic large ears.
🐾 Condition – Overall health, muscle tone, and presentation. A glossy coat, bright eyes, and good muscle tell a story of excellent care.
🐾 Coat & Colour – Texture, clarity, and definition. Whether it’s a deep seal point, sleek ebony, or shimmering silver, judges love a coat that gleams.
🐾 Temperament – Confidence is key! Calm, curious cats who enjoy the experience make a lasting impression.
🐾 Balance & Proportion – Everything should flow together in harmony — no one feature should overpower another.
