What Does “Pointed” Mean? 😺✨

If you’ve ever admired one of our Siamese cats’ dark faces, ears, paws, and tails, you’ve seen the colourpoint pattern — but what does “pointed” actually mean? 💙

The term “pointed” refers to cats that have darker colouring (called points) on the cooler parts of their body — the face, ears, paws, and tail — while the rest of their coat stays lighter. This beautiful contrast is caused by a temperature-sensitive gene.

Here’s how it works:
❄️ The cooler areas of a cat’s body grow darker fur.
☀️ The warmer areas stay light and creamy.

That’s why Siamese kittens are often born almost white — the warmth of the womb keeps them pale! Their points slowly appear as they grow and cool down in the outside world.

Siamese come in beautiful shades including Seal, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Cinnamon, and Red, and even in Tabby and Bicolour patterns.

Each kitten’s colour develops in its own way — and we love watching them change and grow into their colours. It’s like a box of chocolates — you never quite know which delicious shade you’ll get! 🍫💕

Meet Our Cats: Apocalyptica D’Artagnan (Milo) 🤎

All the way from Apocalyptica Cattery in Germany, Milo joined us in 2024 and quickly stole our hearts. He’s a stunning Chocolate Spotted Tabby Oriental Shorthair with a confident presence and a gentle, affectionate nature.

Milo has enjoyed a wonderful show career, earning praise for his type and temperament. Now a stud cat at Carbonel Cats, he’s already producing beautiful kittens who carry his lovely personality and striking looks. 💕

The Origins of the Siamese Cat

Elegant, intelligent, and adored around the world — the Siamese cat has a history as fascinating as its personality. 💙

Originating in Thailand, once known as Siam, these cats were treasured by royalty and kept as sacred companions in temples and palaces. Legend says Siamese cats would guard royal treasures and even receive the souls of kings — which might explain their regal confidence today! 👑

Their striking blue eyes, sleek bodies, and colourpoint coats made them stand out — and when they were introduced to the West in the late 1800s, they immediately captured hearts. The first Siamese cats to arrive in England were gifts from the King of Siam to the British royal family — and from there, their fame spread worldwide. ✨

He’s had a very successful show career, charming judges and spectators alike with his striking looks and confident personality. Beyond the show ring, Chad is affectionate and loving — a true sweetheart who enjoys being close to his people. 💕

How to Help a Cat Adjust to a New Home 🏡

Bringing a new cat or kitten home is such an exciting time — but it can also feel a little overwhelming for them. 💕

Here are some simple tips to help your new Carbonel kitten settle in:

Every cattery has a beginning — and for Carbonel Cats, it all started with Tex. 🐾

Registered as Inksspots Wind Walker, Tex who is a Blue Bi Colour Oriental Shorthair came to us from the wonderful Templeton Cattery in South Australia, but his roots trace all the way back to America. 🇺🇸✈️

Tex was our very first stud cat, the handsome gentleman who helped lay the foundation for everything Carbonel Cats has become today. His kittens have carried on his beautiful type, strong features, and that unmistakable Oriental charm. ✨

Tex is always up for a chat and really loves his food! 🍗💬 He’s been a cornerstone of our breeding program and the heart behind so many wonderful cats that followed. 💕

We’ll always be grateful for this incredible boy who quite literally started it all for Carbonel Cats. 👑

Evie was the first breeding queen to join Carbonel Cats, and over the years she’s given us many stunning kittens who’ve carried on her beauty, elegance, and loving temperament. ✨

Now enjoying her well-earned retirement, Evie spends her days soaking up cuddles, supervising the younger generations, and reminding everyone exactly who’s in charge. 💕

She’s affectionate, wise, and full of personality — the heart, soul, and undisputed matriarch of Carbonel Cats. 💖

The gorgeous Tabby Point girl, Carbonel Fashion Queen, had a fantastic day at yesterday’s Royal Hobart Show! She gained a Best Cat and a Reserve Cat, and then went on to win Best Group Exhibit!
