๐ฉ๐ฆฎ This Saturday is international dogsโ day. ๐ถ๐โ๐ฆบ๐๐ฉ๐ฆฎ
National Dog Day was established in 2004 by animal advocate & pet and family lifestyle expert Coleen Paige. The aim of the awareness day is to raise awareness about the number of dogs that are currently in rescue centres and encourage the adoption of these animals.
Sadly, each year, millions of dogs become homeless because they are unwanted or their owners are unable to care for them. National Dog Day aims to encourage people to adopt dogs from shelters and rescue organisations.
In honour of our best friends, we will be hosting a stall at Glebe Hill Shopping centre, this Saturday 26th August from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Come along for free pet advice and explore activities for the family.
For more information follow the link below, if not come and see our Tasmanian Veterinary Hospital team. โบ๏ธ๐
Make sure tomorrow you give your dogs lots of cuddles, they deserve it. ๐ถ๐ฅฐ

Last week we had beautiful 4-month-old Dachshund pup, Klaus visit for base narrow canine removal. Klaus was more than happy to cuddle up to Nurse Hannah and out the back before heading into his surgery. ๐พ
Base narrow canine teeth is a condition that can affect young puppies when their baby teeth erupt โtoo narrowโ and make contact with the palate. ๐ฆท
More commonly this condition affects puppies at 6 months of age, when the lower permanent canine teeth erupt in an upright orientation. The adult canine teeth will eventually strike the palate causing pain.
Dogs are not good at telling us when they have a sore mouth, although each time your puppy comes to visit, our vets will check that their teeth are coming through normally. If our vet has any concerns, they will discuss with you and together you can make a treatment plan to ensure your puppy has a functional and pain-free mouth.
The best thing to note is, base narrow canines are treatable, especially if we act early.
If you are ever unsure and would like your puppy to have a full examination by our vet, please do not hesitate to call our veterinary hospitals to book an appointment with our friendly team. Our aim is to ensure your puppy has a comfortable, healthy mouth for life. ๐
As you can see for Klaus, he had a pretty happy ending eating all his chicken after he had woken from his surgery. ๐ฅฐ
๐ A round of applause for Miss Polly! ๐
Meet Polly, she is a 6-year-old Dachshund who recently came to our Bellerive Hospital for spinal surgery.
Polly presented with paralysis in her hind legs and was diagnosed with a compression in her spinal column.
Dr Gareth and their team operated on Polly last week to relieve the compression.
Polly is shown here with Nurse Millie, combining her post operative rehabilitation with her rounds of the clinic. Polly is improving well and is getting stronger every day. ๐๐

Our very own Dr Rob, Dr Russell and trusty sidekicks Ben and Erin have been taking part in The Push-Up Challenge for 25 days in June ๐ช๐ป
With only a day left to go and not much left in the tank they are so close to completing their goal of smashing out 3,318 push-ups each! The Push-Up Challenge helps engage and educate people in mental and physical health, and raise awareness of the mental health issues affecting everyday Australians.
If you would like to donate to this great cause and help support Dr Rob and Dr Russell, please follow the QR code and details provided in the comments. All of the money that is fundraised goes to Headspace, Lifeline or The Push for Better Foundation
P.S. We hope you are all as impressed as Rob is by his clapping push-ups he performed for us today! ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
