R U OK? ๐Ÿ’› ๐Ÿ–ค

Today is R U Okay Day. It is our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, 'are you OK?' and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling with life.

Did you know your pet are also capable of empathy, which means they can sense and respond to our emotional states in a way that is similar to humans. Everyone can always have someone to turn to.

So remember too start the conversation..
1. Ask R U OK?
2. Listen
3. Encourage action
4. Check in

It is okay to let others know if you need help, you don't always need to do it alone. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

Welcome to Spring, and what a start to the season we have had already! We do hope everyone is safe and sound. ๐ŸŒผ

With Spring brings exciting new smells for our animal friends, but can also bring a lot of allergies or discomforts. It is a timely reminder to make sure your pet is up to date with their yearly vaccinations, but also the opportunity to ask questions if you see that your pet may be suffering any allergies due to the change of season. Have you notice any changes in your pet you are unsure of? It is the time to ask your knowledgeable and caring vets.

๐Ÿ“ฃWe would like to make you aware due to high demand that it is best to book ahead a couple of weeks for non-urgent appointments to save disappointment. If your pet is due for their annual vaccination soon, we would highly recommend calling our clinic to lock in that appointment in with your favourite vet in advance. At our clinics, we pride ourselves on the loyalty shown by our clients and in turn want to continue to provide you and your animals the very best care. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

If you have any further inquiries, please do not hesitate to call our clinic and one of our friendly staff members will be able to assist you.๐Ÿ’™

This month, we need to share something that is extremely important to our TVH family. One of our own is going through a tremendous battle with her family. We wanted to share her story to help raise awareness and raise support, please take the time to read Zoe's story. ๐Ÿ’›

"Some of you may recognise me from the clinic as a Veterinary Nurse and Rehabilitation Nurse. My name is Zoe and I have been apart of the Tasmanian Veterinary Hospital team for nearly 6 years now. ๐Ÿ’™

Something you may not know is that 2.5 years ago my husband was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and is still currently having chemotherapy treatment. The Leukaemia Foundation is an organisation close to my heart and I have made it a goal since Zak was diagnosed to help give back to these organisations that continue to give us so much.

September is blood cancer awareness month and because of this, I am running 15km every day for 30 days. Thatโ€™s 450km! With a goal to raise $15,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. I will be doing this at the same time as being a mother, a carer for my husband as he goes through treatment and also working.

Donations will help the Leukaemia Foundation with research and supporting other families impacted by blood cancers and blood related disorders. 16 Australians will loose their lives everyday to blood cancer, and 53 Australians will be newly diagnosed everyday.

Any amount will help make a change. If you canโ€™t donate money, I urge you to share, donate blood or plasma, and look into becoming a bone marrow donor ๐Ÿ’™โ€

To donate please follow the link below

Today is International Cat Day โ€” a day to celebrate all our wonderful cats. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿงก
Owning a cat can be an extremely rewarding relationship. A cat has the ability to both calm your nervous system and provide an immediate outlet for fun and play. Although cats are independent animals who like to scavenge and explore on their own terms, they are also very affectionate with their owners and people they trust.

๐Ÿฑ Theyโ€™re quiet. (Sometimes!)
๐Ÿฑ Theyโ€™re independent.
๐Ÿฑ They keep your house pest-free.
๐Ÿฑ They have long life spans. The oldest living cat recorded in Australia was 26 years old!

We love our cats and all the cats that come to our hospitals! Share a photo of your cat in the comments and tell us why your cat is the best!

Share the love for all cats on International Cat day. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฑ

To celebrate Dental Month, we find it is important to remind our pet owners our the importance of your pets dental health. ๐Ÿฆท

What does your pet's breath smell like? If you notice persistent bad breath, it could be an indication of dental disease.

Plaque is a soft, sticky, colourless film that builds up on teeth. It can be tricky to spot at first but as plaque accumulates, it can harden to become yellowish โ€“ appearing tartar.

We offer dental chews for both cat and dogs. Oravet Chews have a unique dual action design that helps protect your dog's teeth, and which has been proven to help create a cleaner mouth and fresher breath.

To find out more information please visit us and our friendly reception team will be able to assist you. ๐Ÿ’™

Don't forget we are offering $200 Off all Dental treatments this month! Book in now so you don't miss out. ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿฅณ

If your pet is insured with an eligible GapOnlyยฎ partner we can process your pet insurance claim while youโ€™re still at the vet. You simply pay the gap (the difference between the vetโ€™s invoice and the claim benefit under your policy) and go.

To check if your pet insurance policy offers GapOnlyยฎ head to gaponly.com.au/gaponly-insurance-partners/ or call our lovely client service team for more information.

As temperatures continue to drop, we find ourselves rugging up with warm jackets, scarves and putting extra blankets on our bedsโ€ฆ. But what about pets? How can we keep them warm and healthy during winter? โ„๏ธ๐ŸŒจ

It is the best thing to cozy up with your pet when it is cold, there is no doubt about that, but it is also important that your pet is still exercising regularly. In Australia, itโ€™s estimated that up to 44% of dogs and 40% of cats become overweight during winter months.

Senior pets struggle the most this time of the year. Arthritis is one of our most common enquires over winter. If you notice your pet slowing down, not wanting to jump up onto furniture or not acting themselves. Just like humans, pets can benefit from supplements and anti-inflammatories. ๐Ÿฆด

If you are concerned or would like more information, we recommend booking your pet in with one of our amazing vets, who will do a full health examination and will put a plan in place for you and your pet. ๐Ÿ’™

As we are approaching winter, it is a timely reminder that arthritis in dogs presents when the temperatures become cooler. We want to help you recoginse if your pet can be suffering from sore joints. ๐Ÿฆด

Arthritis is inflammation in the joints, this inflammation has occurred due to the wearing down of the cartilage in the effected joints.

This cartilage can wear down for a number of reasons, age related changes, injury, surgery, developmental and even excessive weight.

Arthritis is commonly associated with old pets but in some cases, it can occur in younger pets too. ๐Ÿพ

If you would like more information or would like to book an appointment at our Bellerive, Kingston or Sorell hospitals, please do not hesitate to call our friendly client service team who will be able to assist. ๐Ÿ’™
