To our loyal clients,

As most of you would be aware, our newly renovated Bellerive Hospital, had a fire break out in the roof space in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 4th February. The damage has been extensive and it will be some time until we have this beautiful space back up and running.

Whilst we are working on a plan to get our veterinary services operating from Bellerive again, we wanted to let you know that we are still here. We are so lucky that we have hospital locations at Kingston and Sorell and we have added additional staff to these sites to ensure we can still see our clients. Our Bellerive phone number will automatically forward through and you will still speak with our dedicated client services team.

We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and offers of help from our community and our clients and so many of you have asked what you can do to help. Whilst we are still grappling with the situation, the best way you can help us is to stay with us. Flexibility is one of our core values and we are amazing at finding solutions. We might not physically be at Bellerive at the moment, but we are still here to help you and your pets and will find a way to accommodate you.

Hopefully we will have a temporary set up at Bellerive sorted in the very near future and we will continue to keep you updated.

With love and thanks,
Tasmanian Veterinary Hospitals

A popular Tasmanian vet clinic on Hobart's eastern shore, which treats 100 animals a day, has been left reeling after a fire in the roof just a year since it completed a $4 million upgrade.

โ˜€** HOT WEATHER PREDICTED FOR TODAY** โ˜€

As we have seen these last few weeks Tasmanian always represents four seasons in one day. With high temperatures across the state, it is important to note that weather changes not only affect us, but also our pets.
Heat stroke in pets can be subtle but deadly, so we recommend planning and follow simple steps to help your pet over summer.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Avoid walking your dog in the middle of the day. If the ground is too hot for you, itโ€™s too hot for your petsโ€™ paws.

๐Ÿš— Never leave your dog alone in a car or vehicle. This is a MUST NOT DO ! Temperatures in a car can reach double the outside temperature in a very short period of time.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Provide plenty of water. Place plenty of water bowls outside, in case one falls over, your pet has a backup.

๐Ÿ  Keep your pet indoors, if possible. We understand some pets canโ€™t be inside, if they are outside, itโ€™s important to provide your pet with a cool, shaded area.

It's not just dogs that are affected by the heat โ€“ cats and small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs are highly susceptible to heatstroke.

We want you and your pet to feel safe and comfortable on hot days and we believe following these tips can help keep your pet cool in these warmer months.

Let's enjoy our brilliant summer โ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ฅโ˜€๏ธHow has this weather been in Tassie at the moment?!โ˜€๏ธ
Have you noticed your pet wanting to lie on the cool floor, or panting a lot more? Don't forget your pet can be adversely affected by the heat! Here is a tip for the next hot day in Tassie, make your pet an ICY POLE! ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸงŠ

To make an icy pole all you will need is a large round container or bucket and place in their food bowl so it can hold the ice as it melts.

From there add any treat you would like.. add peas, strawberries, your pets dry food... anything that will make it tasty for them! You can even include a toy for their final reward. From there, freeze overnight and give to your pet before you leave for the day!

It is that simple and will make sure your pet is entertained and hydrated during the day! ๐Ÿฅฐ

If you feel like an icy pole may not be their preference, mush up their wet food and place in the freezer... then they can lick at that instead!

Have your tried this before? Please share anything that works well for your pet! ๐Ÿ’™

07/01/2025

With Hobart's forecast looking to be in the high 20s this week, it is a timely warning to everyone that it can take less than six minutes for an animal to die in a hot vehicle. โŒ

The RSPCA received many reports of animals left in vehicles last year. ๐Ÿ˜ข
Many owners donโ€™t understand what happens to a dogโ€™s body in overheating and heatstroke. Leaving your pet in a car, especially on a hot day, is a criminal offense and you can be charged.

Remember
๐Ÿ”ด Do not leave your dog in a vehicle โ€“ even when the windows are down, dogs can still overheat and die.
๐Ÿ”ด Heat stress is an emergency. Veterinary help should be sought as soon as possible if heat stroke is suspected.
๐Ÿ”ด Never leave pets unattended in vehicles on a hot day. This includes on the back of a ute, even for a short period of time. If it is a hot day, try to leave your pet in a cool and shaded area with extra bowls of water.

Even mild heatstroke is an emergency. Treatment of heatstroke is intensive and difficult, and the sooner it is started the better. If you think your pet is affected by heatstroke, you should immediately call us and speak to our team. If it is after hours, please call AHVEC on 1300 302 912 and they will assist you and your pet.

If you see a dog in distress in a car on a hot day, phone the police on 131 444, and they will advise you what to do.

Remember, if you are hot, so is your pet!
