Charlie is now 10 months old and his training is coming along nicely. Regular visits to the city for exposure to all the sounds, sights and smells through the adolescent period is invaluable. He even paid a visit to the staff at Keiser and brightened their day.

📢 Let me say this so that everyone in the back can hear

Dog bites do not happen out of the blue!

Dogs give many subtle signs before they escalate to defensive behavior.

Recognizing early cues like yawning, lip licking, and turning away can prevent stress and conflict.

Understanding dog body language can help you avoid your dog experiencing unnecessary stress - keep them (and everyone else safe)

Along with all the fun in the garden this afternoon Yogi had some calm mat training before visiting his favorite vet. As you can see he is very calm laying on the table and nearly dozed off. 5 minutes a few times a day for a young puppy as well as exposure to all the sights, sounds and smells with plenty of high value rewards is a great start. As well as 20 hours of sleep for a young pup like him.

So proud of all of our teams who volunteer their time to share their beautiful dogs.

Royal Hobart Hospital’s Emergency Department staff got some TLC yesterday with a visit from therapy dogs Lewy and Chilli from Therapy Paws Tasmania. 🐾

👩🏼‍⚕️Alice Barrett is a Registered Nurse in the RHH Emergency Department, and a Project Nurse in the Workforce and Wellbeing team, and looks forward to the canine therapy. “ED Nursing is really hard and you don’t really have time to think about how traumatic it can be until after the end of the shift,” she says, “When the therapy dogs come, it gives us that five minutes to have a play and give us a little bit of a break to reset.”

🐕🐕‍🦺 Dogs Lewy and Chilli are born for the job, says Therapy Paws Tasmania co-founder (and retired Registered Nurse) Lisa Farrall.

“There are very few dogs that can work in the Emergency Department because it is such a hectic place. They pick up on people’s emotions, and whether they need to be lifted up. If the staff are having a bad day, they come in, Lewy will be wagging, Chilly will be calm, they’ve got the best of both worlds.”

🧘 This week kicks off Six Weeks of Wellbeing in a statewide program for staff at the Department of Health. Each week spotlights a different pillar of wellbeing: social connection, nutrition, light/dark exposure, sleep, state regulation and movement. “There are a number of levers we can pull to improve our wellbeing, and we want to use these six weeks as an awareness-raiser,” shares Dorian Broomhall, Director – Culture, Talent and Business Partnering.

Therapy dog sessions, group yoga, and chats on donating with Red Cross Lifeblood representatives, are some of the week’s events focusing on taking time out for meaningful social connection and paws-itive experiences.

Fangs very much to Therapy Paws Tasmania for the cuddles and cheer! 💙
