This is wonderful for our small state and all the doggos here that want to (have to) travel 🙌

Animals will no longer be forced to stay separate to their owners, with the Spirit of Tasmania set to change their policies when the new ships launch in 2025.

The two new ships will each have 18 cabins dedicated to accommodating furry friends and their owners, with a designated outdoor area available for dogs to stretch their legs and enjoy some fresh sea air on a lead.

In addition to the cabins, the ferries will also have a secure climate-controlled pet housing area with kennels for dogs of all breeds and sizes.

Sticking with the meat photos for this weeks posts. See how our beef heart helps make up the fully balanced meal for your dogs.
We also add other goodies such as eggshell powder for calcium, seaweed and our in house made bone broth.

Did you have a guess what this meat was?
This photo gives it away a little… ❤️
Yes it’s heart! Beef heart!
Whilst it looks super lean and bright like venison- it is not. But this is exactly what the beef heart looks like after we have prepared it ready for our meals.
Our chefs spend a lot of time trimming all the fat from the heart, then chopping it into chunks before we mince it.
This extra process and care that we take means there is no excess fat for your dogs to consume.
Larger commercial companies would simply process the whole heart- and let me tell you- there is a LOT of fat (and tough arteries and sinew) on the beef heart.

We also don’t waste this fat. It doesn’t go to landfill, and it instead goes home with chef to her farm pigs to eat and they love it. ❤️

Our Milo, partying in the birthday streamers. 🎉
For those who have been following us for a while, it might be of interest for you to know that Milo is named after Mack, who sadly passed far too soon in tragic circumstances. The name Milo came about as it is chef Esther’s son’s name spelt backwards “oli” and a capital M for Mack.
Forever in our hearts and never forgotten. But such a lovely boy is Milo too. Mack would love him ❤️
And for those who wonder where Jack and Chelo are- they are up in doggie heaven too, but both lived to amazing ages of 17 and 15, and were the first taste testers of Jack and Chelo dog meals (as we were invented because of them!) ❤️

Fish is an excellent addition to your pet’s diet for HEAPS of reasons. We love ‘em.

Fish is a great source of high-quality protein, offering nutritional variety to the poultry, ruminant and game meats that typically make up the bulk of our pets’ diets. This is especially so because many fish are consumed by our pets “head-to-tail,” rather than just as a fillet or prime cut. This perfect portioning by nature makes small whole fish like sardines a great bone source for cats, or for older animals that need soft food.

Nutritionally speaking, oily fish like sardines, salmon and mackerel are they way to go because they are rich in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats can assist with managing inflammation that manifests as joint pain, dull coat or itchiness. They’re also great for the health of the heart and the brain.

Fish is also an inexpensive source of essential nutrients vitamin D, vitamin B12, iodine, and selenium. It’s well tolerated by most animals and they usually love it!

Small whole fish like sardines can be sourced from fish shops or you can used tinned sardines if you don’t have access to fresh. These are ideal because they are less likely to contain heavy metals. In moderation it’s fine to use other fish, like salmon, which you can often request offcuts of for fairly cheap.

You can feed fish bones and do not need to cook it (unless you are sourcing salmon from the Pacific northwest of the USA, in which case always cook it), but we recommend keeping fish to no more than 25% of the food overall, unless you are following a special diet. We use freeze-dried sardines in all of our meal balancing blends and in our Old Soul Functional topper.

Our human grade sardines are sourced by us and freeze-dried in small batches to ensure minimal nutrient loss of all these volatile goodies oily fish is brimming with.

For the month of June we are celebrating our 5th year in business!

I can’t believe I even just said those words out loud!!

From very basic beginning’s of cooking up meals on my kitchen bench, to renting our first shared commercial kitchen, to now having our very own 300m2 kitchen and warehouse facility, its been a big 5 years!

We want you to share in our festivities, so for the month of June we will be having various giveaway competitions, we will be sending out birthday treats to all customers who place an order (this includes our loyal subscribers), PLUS we will be stocking birthday doughnuts (the dog friendly kind) in store all month long!

Keep an eye out on our socials for any other fun stuff we decide to do! And be sure to tag us in any photos of your doggos celebrating our birthday with the presents they receive. Some dogs may even receive a birthday hat (wink wink)!

And just for a giggle... I’ve added a photo of our very first batch of food that I made back in 2019! Chelo and Jack loved it, so I knew it was a business idea worth continuing with.
