It’s been a while since we’ve posted (sorry we’ve been super busy behind the scenes!) but I couldn’t help but share with you all my lovely day with the greys on Monday. 🌞
Although everyday is a greyt day, Tassie turned on the weather with sunny, clear blue skies with a gentle breeze - the PERFECT weather to lounge outside while getting some extra one on one time, grooming and of course some treats. 🥰❤️🐕

We’ve got 3 on the cards tonight with Evie Eloise, Balloon Head & Suntory Grace - go Pursell Kennels! 😆⭐️

I promise I only talk like this to the greys… 🤣🤣

Bit late posting but very proud of the kennels’ efforts this Thursday gone! 😄

We started off the night with a fantastic performance from Slick Move, grabbing his first win with us! 🥇👏🏼

Following this we also had Radio Signal achieve his first win with us! 🥇👏🏼, with Jarrods Boy not too far behind in 3rd with a great effort.

Ashlee Girl did well to get 3rd in her race, and Top Speed Gear was a little unlucky and grabbed a 4th in his.

Go team 😊

Well we had a little bit of bad luck tonight but that’s just how racing goes sometimes! 😅- however big boy Woody (Slick Move) was very proud with his efforts tonight (as we were too!) running a great 3rd!😄
I just missed capturing Woody really getting into rolling in the grass but here he is being adorable 😆

Fossil Bluff also ran a great 2nd and Radio Signal running a good 4th in his race.

We’ll be back next week! 😊

STOP! SHOWER TIME! 🚿🧼🫧

What better way to seize such a lovely day here in Tassie showering these Greyhound beauty’s! 😆
A nice warm massage/shower in the sun had every single one of them getting jelly legs as they got too relaxed. 😂

Here’s something for you all to guess…
Which pair are the *retirees* that were showered today?? (Bonus points for their ages and there is only one pair that are!) 😉
After there’s been some guesses I’ll reveal the answer! 😆

Or if that seems a little hard I’m sure you could all guess who the imposter of the group is… 😅😁

Pursell kennels had a good night tonight achieving a winner, 2 seconds and a third, with our unplaced getters being unlucky in their races.

Very proud of them all. 😊

🧡💙 RETIRED 💙🧡

The time has snuck up on us in a blink of an eye. Two of our veterans have hung up their racing muzzles to retire to the pet lifestyle. ✨

Green Machine (Charlie, brindle) and All About Monty (Monty, black) have officially retired.

Both have been absolute treasures to have in the kennels, and have consistently performed well being in the money for a majority of their starts. Both were simply completely honest, hard chasers - the foundations of what you always hope to have in a race dog.

Their classic racing styles would see Charlie mustering up in a race and barging through the field, whereas Monty would fly out of the boxes and slam to the fence fearlessly. Combined they have earned $90,000 together.

Monty has been with Blake for his whole racing career and Charlie for 95% of his. When you train a dog for such a long time they really become apart of the furniture and honestly, it’s so hard to imagine life without them! 🥹

Beautiful Charlie just has to be one of the most perfect examples on how placid a greyhound can be. 38kg of pure muscle yet he is so gentle, kind and soft. He has the most soulful eyes that radiate love.
There’s never a peep out of him, never a single thing out of place in his kennel. He LOVES a chin rub, a scratch at the base of his tail or really any type of affection. 😂
When he’d be jumping out of his skin feeling good he would do several spin zoomies outside with his tail acting like a whip. Such a happy boy. 🥰
Charlie has a wonderful home lined up already where he gets to become a full time professional lounge lizard 🦎💙 which we think he’ll love and enjoy very much. 💙

Monty boy, has to be the goofiest larrikin of all time in the kennels. 😂🥰🥳
Nothing bothers him at all, he LOVES strutting around, being a social butterfly with the other greyhounds and thinking he’s pretty awesome. 😎 he’s constantly making us laugh!
He like Charlie, is the most perfect kennel dog - quiet (unless it’s lunchtime 🤪), always spotless in his kennel, has perfect recall and takes pride in sleeping in odd positions! 🛌
He loves any type of pat/scratch or simply talking to him has him up and bubbly. 🥰 🧡He’s also not afraid to remind you to pat him with a nudge to your side! 😆
When Monty was younger, his signature move at the kennels was similar to what he did at the track… Barge out of the kennel door/boxes ready to go!! 🤣 after a few years he’s finally realised that he’ll get to his destination at the kennels just fine by calmly walking haha! 🤣

We haven’t yet found Monty a home (as we haven’t reached out until now) but he’s been desexed and is now ready to find his forever home! If anyone who reads this and is interested in this handsome boy, or knows someone who would be please reach out to us. 🥰🧡 we will only be sending him to the best of homes. 🧡
We believe he would suit a young/middle aged single person, couple or family with older children (as he can get excited when razzed up 😁), we think he’ll be great with other dogs but just as happy to be a single dog. We would advise to avoid small pocket pets to be housed with him.
He’ll make a fantastic addition to someone’s life. He’s a ball of character but also extremely well behaved and loves people. 🥰

I know it’s such a long post but I can’t ever fully put into words how much we love these boys. I’ve been tearing up just writing about it as I’m going to miss them so much! I’ll need some tissues. 🥹🙏🏻

We’d like to thank their wonderful owners for giving Blake the opportunity to train them. ❤️

What an honour to be apart of their lives. 💙🧡

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we announce that our beloved Jill (I’ve Got You) has passed over the rainbow bridge 🌈 💔

What can we say about Jill?
Well she simply was, *is* the heart, soul and forefront of Pursell Kennels. She has played this role for nearly 10 years, which is even longer than Blake’s whole Greyhound training career.

Jill was the first dog Blake had ever trained in which he shared this experience with Lynne (Blake’s Mum) as her owner and Brendan (Blake’s Dad), her previous trainer.

We’d be fibbing a little if we said Jill was a champion, hard racer - but when she won Blake’s first ever win as a trainer, the feeling was as special as if she had just won a Group 1 race. There’s simply no other feeling like it.

After Jill finished up her racing career there was never any doubt that Blake and Lynne were going to keep her as a pet. And so she became the captain of the kennels for the next 6-7 years once retired.

For all the new Greyhound additions to the crew, the first friendly face that would greet them on their arrival would be Jill. Over the many years they have all adored her just as much as we do.

But the thing she lived for most was Blake.
Blake was her whole entire world. She being his constant shadow with her recall could compare to the likes of a German Shepherd Police dog, or a farmers best working, herding Border Collie. A simple call of “Jill” or “on my six” would send her airborne and have her right next to Blake instantly.
She loved everyone she met but if Blake was ever out of her sight she’d soon be off finding him.

Jill was and is the most special Greyhound to of ever walked through the kennels. She brought so much happiness to our world with a touch of sassiness.

Jill was sadly diagnosed with a really aggressive bone cancer (osteosarcoma). Which resulted to us in the late hours of last night saying goodbye and letting her go peacefully at the Vet.

This is more than just racing and this is why we do it. She is a family member who impacted our lives in so many wonderful ways. The love of a Greyhound is like no other. ❤️

Rest in piece Jill. We love you so much. ❤️

Pursell Kennels News this week:

Our boy Tony (Mcinerney) put on a very bold and strong performance last Saturday to come 2nd in the Group One Topgun at the Meadows behind the impressive reserve runner Photo Man. We were so proud of Tony’s efforts! 😁

This weekend he will come up against Photo Man & Wow She’s Fast again but will also take on She’s A Pearl (Saturday) at Sandown Park for the Shootout!

He may appear to be the underdog heading into the Shootout but one thing we’re confident in is the fact that Tony gives 100% every run and will leave nothing in the tank at the finish line. 💪🏼 We’re very grateful to be in it with 3 of Australia’s best dogs and look forward to seeing how it all unfolds! Good luck to everyone and their connections. 🙏🏻

Go Tony!! 🤩🙏🏻

Also a special mention to Blake’s Father Brendan who also took out the Topgun Stayers with Morraine Suzie last weekend! It was an incredible performance. 🏆

What can we say, he did it. It’s a dream come true!!!

We are so grateful and proud to have had our boy Tony, (Mcinerney) take out the Group 1 Million Dollar Chase last night at Wentworth Park in Sydney. 🏆🥇❤️

His run in itself was flawless, smart and courageous. It was something special.
He truly worked so hard to navigate his way through such a brilliant race against some of the best dogs running around in the country. In which we thank and congratulate the rest of the field for their efforts. 💪🏼

We’re on cloud nine and are still pinching ourselves! This really is such a surreal feeling. 🥹

There is absolutely no doubt that it has been a real team effort to get him to where he is today.
From his wonderful owner/breeder Noel Mugavin for breeding an exceptionally hard and honest chaser, Noel is one of the most talented breeders who commits so much time, care and love into his dogs and it really shows when you watch any of his dogs race.
To Blake’s father Brendan who has had Tony for the past little while now doing the hard yards travelling 10+ hours on the road for the last 6 weeks to get him to Sydney and keeping him sound. His dedication and hard work was the key to him winning.
We also can’t forget Blake’s mother Lynne and Barry for always holding the fort at home looking after the rest of the crew so we were able to be there last night.
And to Blake, who kickstarted and gave Tony the massive confidence boost he needed to be the racer he is now. You knew he was going to be something special. 🙏🏻

As mentioned it’s been a real team effort and we couldn’t be any more thrilled or proud to be apart of it with all involved. ❤️

Tony enjoyed himself a yummy hot dog 🌭 and an ice cream🍦on the way home last night as a very well deserved treat. They were gone in a few seconds! 😆😎

Lastly thank you to every single one of you for your lovely messages and support. It made it so much more special to have so many of you in Tony’s corner cheering him on. I’m pretty sure he heard most of you screaming (even from Tassie!) 🙏🏻

What an incredible feeling this is! ❤️

Sprint Gordon, our Veteran at Pursell Kennels has now retired. ❤️

It’s a bittersweet moment as we mark an end to what has been an exceptional career for our beloved Sprint Gordon (Zed).

With 83 starts for 28 wins, 17 seconds and 9 thirds. Racking up a total prize money of $100,290.

Every time he headed to the track, we knew he would always give it his all.
Some of his racing highlights were:
1st in (feature race in Tassie) Gold Cup
2nd in (Group 2) Launceston Cup
3rd in (Group 1) Hobart Thousand
and a (Group 3) Devonport Cup finalist

If any of you have had the pleasure of meeting Zed, you could spot his enthusiasm at the track from a mile away. His tail would go so fast that it felt like your leg was getting whipped! And he sure wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to headbutt you with some love while putting on his race rug! 🤣

But one thing he has always loved even more than the track, is Blake. The bond these two share has always been apparent and heartwarming to see. Wherever Blake goes, Zed is soon right there glued to his hip.

Thank you to everyone who has tagged along to watch his racing career unfold, also a very special thank you to Barry (Zed’s owner) and Lynne, who have played a major part in Zed’s life - They adore him just as much as we do.

Of course, Zed’s going nowhere and will reside with Blake and Kayla for the rest of his life. ❤️

Thank you Sprint Gordon for everything you have contributed to racing and for the Heawood/Pursell family.

Enjoy retirement buddy, you’ve certainly earned it.❤️
