Sheep breeding used to be a religion, now it’s a science.
We use a range of technologies to create the perfect lamb.
Ultrasound is used to measure the depth of the eye muscle and the level of fatness. We want a high marbling lamb with deep eye muscles, and minimal fat.
This week we scanned 3000 lambs using ultrasound using Jake Bury a local accredited scanner. By next week we will find out if we have a new super sire.
Lambing has been an epic task in 2021. Well over 9000 lambs have been tagged and weighed at birth and we are still going.
Thanks to our Breeding Manager Georgia Cluff who runs the Hampy lambing for care, commitment and dedication to the ewes (and lambs) who are under her management. Thankyou 🙏🏻.
Progeny test weigh day….and or maths lesson. Our new season lambs will hit the shelves soon.
We only name the absolute legends in our breeding program. 2036 has an incredible mix of traits. He is a leader for Lean Meat Yield, Dressing %, Eye Muscle, Growth Rate and is a Top 10 ram In Australia for marbling. He is in a class of his own.
He is our most active ram in the joining paddocks which has earnt him the name ‘Warnie’.

Our story. Thanks to Victor Churchill for allowing us to shoot in store. And to the stars of the video, Rozzie, Eddie and Australia's greatest butcher Vic, thankyou. Enjoy.
Perfect Autumn. Rain, and cool weather. The sheep have loved it. These 820 Hampy Cross lambs are doing well in the growing phase.
22 Hampshire Down Rams all in a row. All with seven Primeline Maternal ladies with the aim of producing ten lambs each. These lambs will be run as single group to measure growth and carcase traits. Sheep aren’t missing the dust and neither are we.
