THE IMPORTANCE OF A RIDER'S CORE FITNESS ON HORSE AND RIDER PERFORMANCE

In 2015 the International Journal of Performance Analysis in Sport published a research article titled “The influence of an 8-week rider core fitness program on the equine back at sitting trot”. The riders participated in an 8 week core strengthening program whereby they completed 20 minutes of Pilates based exercises, 3 times a week. They found that core fitness can have a significant beneficial effect on rider symmetry, and consequently provide an important method for reducing asymmetrical loading and improving both human and equine performance

Hip dysplasia is a condition which can affect a dog’s hindquarters. Commonly seen in larger breeds such as German Shepard’s, Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers. It is often characterised by leg lameness, reluctance to run and jump, and difficulty when attempting to lie down or stand up. Such a condition is closely linked to the early development of osteoarthritis at the hip joint! Here is a small clip which demonstrates how animal physiotherapy can help manage these symptoms and enhance the quality of life in dogs suffering from hip dysplasia.
