We all love summer but, this is often a time when skin issues arise in our pets, often due to allergies, grass seeds, insects, matted hair, ear or eye problems, or its just 'too darn hot!
Recognising when there is a skin problem is not always easy, and itchiness, rashes, skin infections, dry scabs, or allergies can be painful, so early intervention is essential.
Sophie, our resident groomer and vet nurse, is your girl!
She takes the utmost care in clipping, shampooing, and pampering her furry clients.
BUT, it's not just about looking good!
'Groom time' with Sophie includes a thorough body scan checking the skin for any abnormal lumps or bumps, nail, eye, ear, and a**l sac problems, all which can lead to lengthy and sometimes expensive, treatment.
It's all a part of the service!
In fact, Sophie has just returned from Africa and was given the job of clipping an adult lions' nails! She also assisted in treating a Zebra's skin condition.
So, if you want to turn your 'woolly mammoth' into your recognisable bestie again, you need Sophie in their life!
She will talk you through the groom plan, and our vets are on hand if medical assessment is needed.
Sophie is usually booked out for weeks, but she will try her hardest to accommodate you to fit you in. Nb Cats also very welcome. Of course!

The countdown to Christmas is on 🎄🎅🐾While Christmas day celebrations might leave you feeling a little bloated and needing a nap, it can end more seriously for your furry friends.

🍖🥓🍫‘Food Glorious Food’ 🍇 🧄🧅– chocolates, ham (and other fatty, high salt meats), onion/garlic, macadamia nuts, grapes/sultanas, cooked bones, blue cheese, Christmas cake and xylitol (a type of artifical sweetner) can all cause serious illness so best to keep these on your own plate and out of reach of your furry friends! Also don't forgot animals will have food gifts under the tree unwrapped and eaten in no time!
🎄Decorations 🎁 - baubles and tinsel while in themselves are non toxic they can lead to intestinal blockages or linear foreign bodies both of which are life threatening emergencies. Dogs will also chew on Christmas lights and this can lead to oral burns.

Last Friday our team enjoyed their end of year get together at the Riverside.
A lovely, festive dinner was had and we are looking forward to the new year helping your 4 legged friends.
There was even some sneaky stealing in our present giving.

I ( Gundi🐕🐩) am so excited! After many years of searching, I have found a commercial dog and cat food that ticks all my boxes: 1. Grain free 2. Very low starch 3. ORGANIC VEGETABLES 👨‍🌾🙏💪 4. Grass fed pasture raised meat 💃🏼😃🐏🐂
5. Meat from non- factory farmed animals raised as close as possible in a natural, outdoor environment 6. Farms are personally inspected by Diane, the passionate founder and producer of this food.
And: my dogs and cats love it! Bowl- licking - yummy!
I have got it stocked now in the clinic.
Come and try it out.

We all know what Parvo is right? We have seen a number of cases already this season so let’s remind ourselves…
‘Parvo’ is a deadly and highly contagious virus affecting mostly young puppies and unvaccinated dogs.
It is spread by direct contact with faeces from infected animals, where pets come into contact with each other such as dog parks, beaches, multi-dog households, breeders and dog kennels. Even if your dog never gets off the property, YOU DO and you can bring it back on your shoes, tyres, clothes and hands.
With an incubation time of up to 2 weeks, a new puppy with insufficient or no vaccinations could be carrying the virus and become unwell just a couple of weeks after coming into your home. Signs include lethargy, inappetence, vomiting, profuse smelly diarrhoea, fever, pale gums and life-threatening dehydration.
IMPORTANT: Although there is no cure for parvovirus, it can be treated which requires intensive supportive care which can become expensive.
Vaccination, which is effective, safe and affordable is the only way to protect your dog against this deadly virus.
If in doubt about your new puppies’ vaccination requirements, or not sure if your trusty old mate requires a booster, give us a call or drop in.
We are committed to your pets’ health whilst providing you with the best advice and service.
