Raceview Veterinary Surgery

Raceview Veterinary Surgery The Raceview Veterinary Surgery is a privately run clinic owned by Dr Belinda Dare. We have been looking after the pets of Ipswich since 1993.

During that time we have cared for thousands of dogs and cats and have had the pleasure of watching our patients grow from boisterous young puppies and kittens into beloved silver-muzzled seniors. When you visit the Raceview Veterinary Surgery you are not just a face in the crowd, you are a valued client and are greeted by name. Our staff all genuinely care about animals and their welfare and will

work together with you to ensure your pet receives the highest standard of patient care. If you have any questions we would be delighted to hear from you, just call (07) 3288 6988 or send us an email.

Just a reminder that there is just over one more week to claim your discounted senior pet consultations!

Make sure to book your senior pets is ASAP to take advantage of this great deal. 🐾

For the months of July and August, we will be offering our senior pet promo packages.
Unfortunately our pets age much faster than us, reaching senior status by the age of 7 years. It’s usually this time of the year where most senior pet parents notice their dog or cat struggling more with pain and arthritis, so this promo is a great opportunity to help give your senior pet that little bit of extra care that they may need.

Both of our packages include a full senior specific consultation, examining their heart, joints, teeth, eyesight, hearing, skin and coat. They also include an in-house urine test, which gives us an insight into their kidney function, as well as showing us if there are any infections or signs of diabetes.

Our second package includes a comprehensive blood test, including the following tests:
🩸Complete blood count - abnormalities with red/white/clotting cells can indicate problems such as bacterial/viral infections, anemia, and clotting disorders.
🩸Biochemistry - shows us your pet’s organ function. Abnormalities can include disorders such as diabetes, liver or kidney disease, as well as electrolyte imbalances.
🩸Thyroid hormone - tells us whether there is a deficiency indicating hypothyroidism, or if there is too much thyroid hormone circulating, called hyperthyroidism (common in older cats).

Regular vet check-ups and annual blood tests are always a good idea for senior pets. In the majority of cases, the earlier something is detected, the better the outcome is for your pets.

* Our Senior Pet Promo is only available for cats and dogs 7yrs+.
* Any unrelated illnesses will be charged as an additional cost.

🐍 Happy World Snake Day! 🐍

July 16th is a day to raise awareness about our slithery friends and their incredibly important role in our ecosystem. While they are impacted by most of the same issues that affect other wildlife (habitat loss and displacement, climate change, disease etc), the general negative attitude towards snakes can be a massive threat to their preservation.
The majority of bites from venomous snakes occur when people decide to pick up or kill the snake.
Education is key to keeping you, your family and pets safe.

Some methods to try if you’re worried about your pets coming into contact with a snake include:
🐱 Keeping your cats indoors or in a snake-proof enclosure
🐶 Snake avoidance training if you’re unable to have your dog indoors
🌾 Keeping your yard maintained and cut short
🗑️ Dispose of any rubbish you have lying around
🐭 Keeping pet food in rodent-proof storage containers to discourage mice and rats from taking up residence in your property

📢 Attention senior pet owners 📢

In addition to our senior pet promo running for the months of July and August, you can now enter the draw to win your pet’s next arthritis injection for free!

When you bring your pet in for their long acting arthritis injection this month, and then schedule their next appointment while you’re here, you will go into the draw to win a free injection!

We need to look after our senior pets, especially in these cooler months. They are masters at hiding pain, and many owners are usually surprised to hear their pets may be quietly suffering from arthritis pain.
If you are uncertain and would like to bring your pet in for a check up, please call us on (07)3288 6988.

*Entries will only be taken for the month of July, so make sure to book your pet in asap! 🐈

Today April 4th is World Stray Animal Day 🐈‍⬛

It is a day to raise awareness about the countless animals across the globe who through no fault of their own, find themselves lost, abandoned or homeless.
Overpopulation is a major problem across the board, stemming from a lack of animals being desexed. This can result in unwanted litters who struggle to find homes, ending up in shelters or left to roam and reproduce.

How you can help:
Desex your pets.
Make sure your pet is microchipped and up to date. We see countless pets come in who are microchipped, however they are either still registered with the breeder, or the chip is not registered at all!

A microchipped pet is far more likely to be reunited with their family. The procedure is very quick and inexpensive. If you would like to book in for a microchip or wish to know if your pet’s details are up to date, please give us a call on (07) 32886988.

🐕 Please join us in promoting responsible pet ownership this World Stray Animal Day 🐈

Good intentions with a sad outcome 🐦‍⬛

Sometimes instinct tells us to step in to help a seemingly abandoned and helpless baby bird, but unfortunately this "help" will often do more harm than good.

More often than not, their parents are not too far away. Taking these birds from their parents can lead to devastating developmental issues. Even the best wildlife carer cannot teach these babies the life skills they learn from their parents, often leading them to a life in captivity.

If you spot a baby bird on the ground, the following flow chart provided by the RSPCA will help you to determine if they need assistance. 🐥

Today is National Wildlife Day! 🦘

Today is the day we celebrate our weird and wonderful wildlife, recognising the important and unique roles they serve to the ecosystem and the planet.

It is a day where fellow wildlife lovers and conservationists can come together and fight for the animals who cannot speak for themselves.

So your dog is itchy?
These last few months, we have seen countless itchy dogs, with almost one in every three consults coming in because of itchy skin or ears!

Itchy skin can be stressful and uncomfortable, keeping you and your pet up at night. It can be frustrating to narrow down the cause, and is unfortunately not always a quick process to cure.

Itching can be a symptom of a range of causes, such as:
🔹Parasites
🔹Infections
🔹Food allergies
🔹Contact allergies
🔹Atopic dermatitis

Some common symptoms to watch out for can include:
🔸Licking, chewing or scratching
🔸Chewing at feet
🔸Changes to your pet’s smell
🔸Ear infections/ shaking head or scratching at ears
🔸Changes in skin colour/texture
🔸Hair loss
🔸Rubbing/scooting across the ground
🔸Rashes or sores on skin

If you are concerned your pet is showing these symptoms and would like to bring them in to be seen, please make sure you have the following information for your vet:
🔹Current diet/any changes
🔹If they are on flea/tick preventatives, what kind and how often it is given
🔹If they become itchier at a certain time (e.g. after being outside)
🔹If they have flare ups at certain times of the year
🔹If they have access to any plants and what kind
🔹Type of shampoo used to bathe your pet
🔹If your pet has had a recent haircut/clip

Treating skin issues can sometimes be a long journey, but remember the sooner they are treated, the faster we can get your pet back on track to a more comfortable life! Please call (07)32886988 to book your pet in to be seen 🐾

I'm sure most of us are aware about the current issues with our native lorikeets regarding the lorikeet paralysis syndrome (LPS).

Here at Raceview Vets, we are trying our hardest to help out and house these animals where we can, however being such a small clinic, we are currently inundated and just don't have the capacity, facilities or enough staff to care for all of these birds.

We know this can be quite stressful for our community, however there are resources available to be able to get these birds the care they need.
To provide these birds with the best care, we do ask that they go straight to the RSPCA wildlife hospital in wacol. If you are unable to travel, we have provided the number of our local wildlife carer below.

We are aware this can be frustrating for people when bringing birds in to be turned away, but we ask to please be understanding. We are all doing the best we can under the circumstances.
