PREPARE NOW β Scenic Rim Regional Council β flash flood as at 10:00 AM, Monday 29 January 2024.
Warning level: ADVICE
Scenic Rim Regional Council advises heavy rainfall and flash flooding is expected across the region. Do not expect emergency services to come to your door.
Impacts in your area:
β’ Main roads and bridges may be closed due to flooding
β’ Evacuation routes might be cut off. You could be stuck
β’ Power, phones, internet and water might stop working.
What you should do:
β’ Decide if you will leave if water gets close to your house
β’ Make sure children are with a responsible adult
β’ Warn friends and family in the area. Help others if you can
β’ Lift things onto benches, tables, high shelves or upstairs
β’ Move cars to high ground
β’ Make sure you have enough food, drinking water, medicine + pet food for up to 3 days
β’ Be prepared to have no power
β’ Get and fill sandbags and block doors
β’ Use sandbags to block toilets, sinks and drains to stop sewerage backflow
β’ Stay away from waterways
β’ Batten down and tie up boats, jetskis and pontoons.
If you decide to leave early:
β’ Go to a safe and high place
β’ Take your pets, pet food, mobile phone, charger, enough clothes for 3 days, important documents (ID, insurance and passport), medicine, cash, valuables + keys
β’ Block toilets, sinks and drains to stop sewerage backflow
β’ Lock windows/doors
β’ Do not drive through floodwater
If you have livestock:
β’ Move livestock to higher ground
β’ Block access to low-lying fields, shelters or places near creeks/rivers
β’ Provide lots of food and clean water in a safe place away from creeks and rivers
β’ Make sure animals can be identified
