In bearded dragons, chroma is a measure of how chromatic yellow a lizard is. It can be used to measure how a bearded dragon's colour changes in response to temperature. For example, a study found that bearded dragons have higher chroma when they are at a warmer temperature.

Bearded dragons can change colour on different parts of their body for a variety of reasons, including:
Temperature regulation
Bearded dragons can change the colour of their backs to darker shades in cooler temperatures to help them reflect less light and heat up faster. This can help them save time basking during breeding season.

Social communication
Bearded dragons can change the colour of their necks to communicate with other bearded dragons.
