Last pans for 2024 in one of the prettiest creeks you'd hope to find gold in, Ewingar.
Timbarra, Bulldog, Ewingar all eroding from the same source, differing characteristics depending on distance travelled.

All good things come to an end, the big rock in the middle of the river is paid out. While there is still a bit there it's time to move on and find another hotspot.
The 2 pan pics shown are 1) from a few hours yesterday (still decent size flakes, no zircons, scraping the bedrock) and 2) last 3 cleanups together (easier to do the final clean with more gold). So most gold and zircons/sapphires were in the upper layers of wash (easily identified by ironstone balls/black sand levels).
Pic 3, focused on the gold not the tiger snakes.
Take outs - dig downstream of big rocks, deeper is not always better, follow the heavies, different channels in a river carry/deposit different gold/gems, different wash layers can originate from different sources.

Yesterday a mate and I tripped out to the most westerly point on the NSW main range - Watson's Crags. The Kosciuszko range is mainly characterised by ionic granite tors but the tops of few mountains such as Curruthers Peak are composed of juicy looking quartz/mica schists. These schistose beds never show mineralisation (rusty weathering) but on the western side of Tension Woods Knoll just west of Mt Twynam we discovered a highly mineralised band of thick quartz running north south. You could walk across the band seeing clearly the halo effect this intrusion had on the surrounding country rock. I should have taken a sample but that's a no no. I do wonder if they were mining similar geology one ridge over in the historic Grey Mare mine (also located on the top of ridgeline).

Tokachi obsidian, a black lustre reveals hidden beauty when lit (like a lot of us I guess).

Lake loot and waterfall treasure - 925,bling, copper coins, killer muppet and couple beaver tails. I must have detected these falls a dozen times, 100s of coins and jewellery over the past few years. There must be an absolute treasure trove on underneath the falls.

I love the thrill of finding coins. Hunting sinkers and lures lakeside, coins dropped by fish killers are a bonus. Always cool seeing the year of mintage and the condition, giving you some idea of how long ago they were lost.
I moved a rock expecting a sinker but pulled a visible 20c wedged in a crack, ran the coil over it again, bingo 10c hidden in the same crack.
