Patchwork Jungle

Patchwork Jungle We started out as a market garden using organic and permaculture principles to grow a complete range of in season heirloom vegetables and fruit.

Patchwork Jungle is an integrated mix of resource conscious products including In Season Vegetables, Herb Seedlings, Spring Vegetable Seedlings, Fairy Floss, Snow Cones, Soft Serve Ice Cream Hot fruit pies, Jams, Cordials, Cakes and Slices. Our patch, set on 3 acres, is a family business encompassing a Market Garden, Commercial Kitchen, Herb and Seedling Nursery, Orchard, and Berry Patch, and now

a cafe offering tea & coffee, a range of cakes and slice and light meals on the Jung Market Saturdays. This integrated mix of business activities is based on a foundation of resource consciousness with chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, turkeys and goats having their own part in the process. By covering a full range of vegetables, rather than a monoculture, we will have seasonal vegetables year round. Using the resource conscious title as a guideline, we have incorporated animals into our business to recycle weeds and plant excess onsite. We collect rainwater and also utilise the town supply for most vegetable production. Using these guidelines we also recycle most of our household and business waste, which we feel is more globally environmentally beneficial, but impedes organic certification. Our produce is priced to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to have fresh and tasty fruit and veg. We strive to offer only high quality produce without using chemical pesticides or herbicides. The expansion to provide seasonal vegetable seedlings offers people the chance to experience the pleasure of growing their own produce. At key times of the year we have vegetable seedlings and seed available. The peak time being the spring/summer crop. This includes tomatoes, capsicums, eggplant and cucurbits such as pumpkins, melons and zucchinis. We feel we offer several important benefits to customers in this area. Primarily as we only sell seedlings of plants we regularly grow ourselves for harvest, we have in-depth knowledge of these varieties. By both being qualified Horticulturalists, we can supply a high level of technical assistance and specific advice. Feedback provided to us by regular customers has been excellent, and as we have been selling seedlings for the past 12 years our repeat customers see our proven record. Diversification to herbs now leads us to offering over 250 varieties of potted herb seedling and a large number as fresh bunches. Our Horticultural knowledge also helps in this sector. Our main focus on herbs is to offer a full range at excellent value for money. Limited availability of herbs this side of Melbourne has led to a large number of requests for us to attend regular regional markets and events. We are now developing mail order supply. Vertical integration for the market garden led to a registered kitchen, allowing for sales of cut herbs and packaged vegetables. Through this we now also offer self pick for fresh berries in season and a range of jams from our own fruit harvest. In our kitchen we now create a range of cakes and slices to entice the taste buds. From traditional favourites of lemon slice and choc balls to a creamy cheesecake, healthy carrot and walnut cake and a decadent lemon marshmallow slice. Easter and Christmas specialties are also catered for. To provide a destination for our customers we brought in two old school portable buildings to keep in the school style as a cafe. Our range changes regularly, so make sure you check in to see what we have to offer. Then, just for pure indulgence, we have 6 flavours of fairy floss we make fresh for the markets. Strawberry flavour is made fresh on a stick at a number of regular and farmers markets in Western Victoria.

Yes we are open this weekend for berry picking. Are you planning of heading out to Jung Market? Or do you just want to do something fun and tasty? Then head on out to see us at Patchwork Jungle (30 Main St, Jung). Freshly ground coffee, and some sweet eats too.

Plenty of youngberries, we also have blackberries and cherries, but they are both very limited. Fruit has some light weather damage, but will not affect their delicious flavour.

Our full range of cordials and jams to choose from, or you can grab an early Jamper.

Did you know we can personalise your christmas gifts? We have a selection of serving boards or present boxes to choose from. Personalise your jamper form the message and design, to what is included.

We will be at the Makers Gallery Market and Natimuk Market next weekend, so will be closed at Jung.

Youngberries are ripe much earlier than expected.

As further proof we cannot control the weather we have heaps of youngberries ready for picking. Hoping they hold off for next weekend as well, but no guarantees, so come and pick now.

While the youngberries are looking great, the cool start to the season meant no early strawberries, and we are waiting to see if they will flower again, as the conditions are not optimal. The great disappointment for the season is our raspberry harvest. Two years of summer flooding the new raspberry patch resulted in us having to do some major repair-works, and it will require replanting for any harvest. The golden raspberries that were looking fantastic a week ago, are now ruined by baking conditions followed by rain. There is a chance for a second flush later, but once again, the weather is the question mark. Blackberries are also looking great, but nowhere near ready.

No complaints from us for rain at any time, but we did need it a lot earlier, and any now will mainly be useful in the vegetable garden. Keep an eye out for posts about what harvest is available.

It doesn't mean you can't support us by coming out and grabbling a coffee and something sweet from the freezer, perfect to enjoy as you do a self-guided tour exploring what we do at Jung.

We now also stock all products available on the Vasili website. Order online for click and collect for best special deals and rewards points.

Fantastic news for our Patchwork Jungle faithful. Vasili just dropped off a massive load of his products. Anything you can imagine from his website, and it is here. Got a little sorting out to do, but starting SATURDAY we will be all up and running.

Returning to normal opening hours of 10am to 4pm every day except Monday, of if you book in a special opening time.

Berries are progressing, even though the season is a little interesting, and might even be ripening earlier. Had hoped for a better cherry and apricot season, but that may not quite go to plan, so with limited quantities, get in or miss out.Lots of yellow raspberries forming, limited red as we have had to do some groundworks on the new planted area, and it is waiting to be replanted this coming winter.

As usual jams, cordials on the shelf and desert options in the freezer. Start planning your hamper personalisation roders ready for christmas.

Group bookings welcome.

An update to our followers. So much has changed in such a short period of time, and we thank everyone that has shown and offered us support.

What would be great right now is if people could come out to Patchwork Jungle this Saturday, perhaps visit the market as well, but make sure you grab something from our new cordial range at the Old Jung Primary School..

It would be wonderful if you could help as we look forward to spring and through this journey that we find ourselves on.

Please share.

26/07/2024

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Patchwork Jungle will be closed.

We hope that we will be back up and running as soon as possible, and hope that you continue to check our page for when that time arises.

Our priority right now is Kim's health, and we hope that our loyal customer base can understand that.

If there is something you need, please send me a message, and I will get back to you. This includes any garden advice, I will always make time to help people be productive.

06/04/2024

Patchwork Jungle will be closed on Sunday. The whole family, i.e. Both Kim and I, Mousse, Baguette and the 3 remaining rascals Kingston, Oreo and Delta will be travelling to the Edenhope Day of the Dackel.

We attended a few years ago as traders, but this time it will be for a relaxing (??) day out with the puppies.

04/03/2024

We will be closed for the rest of the week. If you want to visit us, or to buy some of our fantastic jam, juice, soft serve, fairy floss and cakes, visit us at the Field Days in the Local Market Square.

03/02/2024

A special bulletin from Patchwork Jungle.
Because Sunday will be hotter than a black jellybean on a bitumen road, we are changing up our opening hours JUST FOR THE DAY.

We will be open from 9am-11am, close for the hottest parts of the day - then reopen between 5pm and 8pm when it should be a bit cooler.

Produce available includes, Blackberries, strawberries, peaches(limited), plums, nashi pears, rhubarb, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, carrots, beans, spring onions, garlic, and corn.

Hope to see you at Patchwork Jungle 30 main st, jung.

30/01/2024

Patchwork Jungle will be closed from 11.30 tomorrow, Wednesday, but back in business Thursday to Sunday 10am to 4pm. Blackberries, strawberries, some fresh veg.
Please note we will be closed next week as we have some commitments at Longerenong College as they ramp up for the new year with an excellent number of new enrolments for 2024. Keep a watch for an update soon.

20/01/2024

With glorious weather planned today, what better Sunday activity than berry picking. Strawberries and blackberries. Some produce ready too - zucchini, cucumbers, beans, bunches of carrots - harvested fresh (or you can even pick your own).

Of course it is still warm enough to enjoy a soft serve sundae with one of our jams as toppings - or a frozen berry crush sprinkled on top.

Sausage rolls freshly cooked, layered cheesecake in the freezer.

Open until 4pm.
30 Main Street Jung.

Returning to a regular calendar with school going back. Closed Mondays, rest of week still 10am to 4pm until berries finish.

14/01/2024

We will be closed today.
Open again as normal tomorrow with plenty of strawberries and blackberries still to pick. Unfortunately the humidity had an affect on our apricot harvest, so they have finished for the season. We do have a small quantity of European plums, some white peaches and some veg e.g. butter beans.

07/01/2024

So, Apricot season is in full swing. No tree is doing what it is meant to by variety, and a bit or weather and rust damage, but Kim is actively filling the freezer in case we end up with a shortage like the last 3 years. That should keep the shop shelves stocked.
We offer self picking of Apricots, as well as strawberries and blackberries at the moment.
More fruit is coming, and we should get another raspberry flush in a month or so, so keep an eye out. Open daily 10am to 4pm, but if you are stuck working those hours, and want a family fun adventure, message us to book an out of hour appointment.
Please remember to share, so your friends can visit as well.
