Well, after much consideration I’ve decided to have a break from breeding this season so I can focus on designing beautiful gardens instead. I still have a few D’uccles, a frizzle and a few Wyndottes looking for homes if anyone is on the hunt DM me ❤️

I reckon D’uccles are the friendliest chooks in my yard 😍😍😍 They do minimal damage to the garden with their teeny-tiny-feetsyweetsies, lay all through the winter and are so amazing with kids! ❤️ Sweet little 9-12week old pullets from these Milliefleur mamas as well as partridge colours are now available - get in touch for more info 🐔🥰

This is the chickens garden! It’s filled with delicious leafy greens like Silverbeet, Kale, parsley and cabbages - sometimes broccoli or Beetroot (for the leaves). 🥬Every morning on my rounds I gather a big bunch for each pen. Keeping your birds on a quality feed like Laucke Mills Showbird breeder, will provide great nutrition, but I always like to add extra fresh greens for vitamins K, A and C as well as calcium and iron. It also helps make delicious deep yellow egg yokes 🍳 and keeps the birds healthy and entertained !
Now there is info out there about oxalic acid in leafy greens binding the calcium and causing egg binding - I’ve never had this problem and reckon it’s down to
🥇1. A high quality pellet as core diet as well as shell grit always available
☀️2. Regular free ranging
🌱3. Quantity - they aren’t exclusively eating leaves.
Some recommend apple cider vinegar in chooks water to increase stomach acid to assist with calcium absorption as this works with human bodies.

So lovely to see Misty Valley Hens get a mention in the Herald Sun Wellness insert a few weeks back thanks to the talented .harrison !😍 If we’ve never met in person, there’s me, La, in my favorite purple tee with my beloveds around me... including miss Luna tucked under my arm 🐔 Feeling very blessed for all the beautiful things that come our way, even in challenging times 🙏🥰 Kids are convinced we’re famous now 😆

My new non-standard colour in Belgian D’uccle - do you like it? There’s a bit of light blue in the undercoat with white spots on a nutmeg base. This is Salt - a bit bemused as I’ve interrupted her in her daily egg laying task 😝 Isn’t she adorable?! 😍

I’ve been a bit worried about Little Sweetheart lately... she’s lost so much weight and seems ravenously hungry whenever I come over with scraps. I’ve treated her for worms a few times and done all the standard checks (mites, breath, full examination) but nothing jumped out. Until last week I was watching her and noticed how she’s been bullied away from the feeding station whenever she tries to eat 😨😒 Well, now she’s getting a butler delivered scrambled egg every morning to herself, whilst the rest of the pen looks on in envy 🤣 Hopefully she starts to out some more weight on and colour up in the face. She’s really the friendliest little hen bless her 🤩🥰

When you sneak in to clean the chook house while the birds are miiiles away free-ranging and suddenly EVERYONE appears to have a look and get in the way 😳😂😂😂 Oh my darlings but you do make me laugh 🤪🐔

Gosh, such beautiful Spring weather! 🌞🌸Before the boys get too randy I decided to let everyone out of the pens while I tended the vegetable garden 🥬 Happily they all kept to their agreed free-ranging zones and very few territory scuffles 👏 Oh, this is Buttercup, a milliefleur Belgian D’uccle posing for her close-up 📸😍

Hope you’re all staying sane through lock down number... urg, I dunno.. lost count 🤪 Girls don’t know the difference, they’re happily enjoying their freedom (within 5km of course) and sticking to their curfew, like good chickens 💕 Hang in there everyone... if you feel like you’re loosing it, pretend you’re a chicken 😝🐔
